my ds only uses them for the free internet...

BabyStopCryin · 31/07/2023 18:36

Is this very new? I saw their twitter page is covered in that style of art - women with mastectomy scars and chunky fellas with beehives…

HPFA · 31/07/2023 18:34

My daughter works for Costa (she's 18) - I texted her to tell her Boycott Costa was trending.

She hadn't heard anything about it. She's kind of mildly Terfy - not really very interested in the issue but says it's all "a bit silly " and "everyone's non-binary really".

Her response after I told her what it was about was "conservatives always make a big fuss about nothing".

I wonder how much we think about the best way of appealing to young women? On the one hand I suspect a lot of them secretly find it all a bit tiresome - on the other anything that gets associated with conservatism and the right wing generally tends to get the thumbs down from people this age. As the conversation opens up it's worth thinking about.

Helleofabore · 31/07/2023 18:33

There is no doubt in my mind that this is glamourising double mastectomies. If 'Costa' portray it as something to be celebrated, it must be absolutely fine... right?

This is wrong on many levels.

RavingStone · 31/07/2023 18:17

So is it the brutal surgery that makes female breasts acceptable to be naked?

It isn't the breast shape, because topless flat chested women are still considered indecent in a way topless men aren't.

It isn't the identity, because transmen and NBs only expose their chests post surgery.

So it must be the surgery. Weird. Is it the same with mastectomies or boob jobs?

And at what point does a male chest become indecent? See plenty of moobs about....

SkinnyMalinkyLankyLegs · 31/07/2023 18:00

What's the story? I've just looked on their twitter and can't see anything..

AgathaSpencerGregson · 31/07/2023 17:53

Ew. As tasteless as their coffee.

Imnobody4 · 31/07/2023 17:52

Does anyone know where it was seen? Is it on line advertising. Maya was saying it broke advertising regulations.

Stumbleine · 31/07/2023 17:50

I'd rather slurp from a dirty puddle than drink Costa 'coffee' quite frankly. Even more so now.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 31/07/2023 17:44

On another thread, a poster said that her dad kept a list of companies/people he boycotted, and she'd adopted his list after he died. I am now keeping my own list, there are so many bloody companies like this! (and yes, their coffee is rank and their cakes are often stale)

IcakethereforeIam · 31/07/2023 17:41

My bloke and kids go to Costa all the time. I don't because the drinks are awful and usually tepid. I don't think I can stop them, kids are still 'be kind'. I'll try to find a local alternative for them, but we're saturated in Costas round here 😡

willWillSmithsmith · 31/07/2023 17:34

I never go to chain coffee shops but if I did I wouldn’t be going to Costa.

ApocalipstickNow · 31/07/2023 17:27

Surely just about everyone us about a million little independent coffee shops these days.

I live in the Shithole Time Forgot and even we convert every empty building (of which we have many) into a coffee shop now.

IcakethereforeIam · 31/07/2023 17:27

*tale - my fault this time!

IcakethereforeIam · 31/07/2023 17:26

There was a very recent thread about a bizarre, inappropriate mural with very, very similar artwork. Rubbish (imo) NB artist whose fairy tail characters looked just like this (and the DocM thread) right down to the Egyptian poses and closed eyes.

I can't see what you're all talking about. I'm in a mobile so can possibly only see a clip of the picture.

I am using my mobile too: if you enlarge the figure you can plainly see two mastectomy scars.
Bugger. One more place to avoid. But the good thing is that it will make me look for a small local café instead

It’s an image of a trans guy with mastectomy scars

Aitchoo · 31/07/2023 17:20

So are we going to see TW's new boobs, or any 'bottom surgery' graphics in future campaigns?!

The more I think about it and link the toxicity, it makes me fucking livid 😡

Aitchoo · 31/07/2023 17:16

Clearly costa and Dr Martens targeted at the same demographic; both designs look like they are from the same company!

If I bought DMs and liked Costa (I think its coffee is awful!) I would be boycotting them.

Deeply concerning.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 31/07/2023 17:14

Their coffees shit anyway I never knew how it got so popular.

Its the emperors new clothes of coffee.

Floisme · 31/07/2023 17:07

Sadly I already boycott them as their coffee is shit.

CorruptedCauldron · 31/07/2023 17:05

They could have put a vest or T shirt on this cartoon person to cover the scars instead of glorifying them. We’d all know it was probably a non-binary or trans person living their best life thanks to the blue hair. Virtue signalling complete, without the need to glamourise a brutal surgical procedure.

DeadbeatYoda · 31/07/2023 17:05

INeedAnotherName · 31/07/2023 17:04

Where have they put that up? If it was Brighton then it doesn't surprise me. They are the punk/goth/grungy teenagers of cities. Anything to be edgy.

But...ffs I have to go to one of those for a "meeting" this week 😡 First and last time.

dcbc1234 · 31/07/2023 17:02

At least Starbucks 'Mermaids biscuit' donation only related to one particular biscuit which you could avoid.
