Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Trying to capture material reality in a slogan

I've been trying to devise a brief, memorable GC phrase that simultaneously sums up why we are GC and offers a way forward without being antagonistic.

(Slight digression: when I first heard Trans Women Are Women, I understood it as the equivalent of an old-fashioned dog-lover's statement: 'Dogs are people'. He didn't expect his dogs to eat with spoons, but he recognised they had traits resembling humans' - e.g. sociability, loyalty - that made him feel as if they were people.)

A literal and incredible interpretation of the TWAW slogan as 'Trans Women really are Adult Human Females' has combined with male entitlement to be intractable to reason.
That biology is fixed seems to be anathema and misunderstood.

However it is attitudes around sex and gender that result in brutal misogyny; and in unhappy teens trying to identify out of their sex. It's not the biology but the ecology. And that could, should change.

'We can't change Biology, let's work on Ecology'.
'Biology is fixed; let's change what we can.'
'You can't change your sex, but you can wear it with pride.' 'Be the best trans you can; make life safe for Adult Human Females.'

Not very catchy, I know. I think I'm wasting my time. What I was hoping to come up with was something that politicians could truthfully say with conviction...

You're perfect just the way you are
What's wrong with being a girl?
Men can wear dresses too
No men in women's changing rooms

DevilinaCardigan · 28/07/2023 06:39

Let’s try this again

Its biology stupid.

Protect trans kids - from gender ideology.

Save the tomboys.

I had another about lipstick and pigs, but I can see how it could be misconstrued.

You can bend your gender but you can't flex your sex

BaronMunchausen · 27/07/2023 20:47

"Sex is WHY women are oppressed and gender is HOW."

That's good.

Definitely the best

Gagagardener · 27/07/2023 22:34

Second time: I've lost the long, careful version. Thanks for all your ideas.

Precis: I'd like to see women's clothing and accessories covered with these slogans. Collages of a range of them, discreetly chic at a distance then wittily GC in close-up, to be used for eg shopping bags, scarves, make-up and toilet bags, lightweight macs, umbrellas...

And single slogans on tee-shirts and badges.

Anyone know of any graphic/fashion designers who might be brave enough?

Single sex not single gender

BaronMunchausen · 27/07/2023 20:47

"Sex is WHY women are oppressed and gender is HOW."

That's good.

You can’t fool your chromosomes

Cismyfatarse · 27/07/2023 17:48

We are not what we wear.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/07/2023 17:05

TWAM

Which also stands for

Truth
Will
Always
Matter

parietal · 27/07/2023 17:03

I think the winner is

'Woman: born not worn'

Could be "A woman is born not worn" on stickers and badges etc.

DogandMog · 27/07/2023 16:49

Sex is binary, not bimodal.

Karyotypes are not sexes.

Sex is WHY women are oppressed and gender is HOW.

mrshoho · 27/07/2023 15:37

TWAM
(For a sharpie opportunity)

Screamingabdabz · 27/07/2023 15:23

I’m also looking for a good slogan I can sharpie quickly in opportune places… and I do like some of these. The wheeesht one not so much. I love the spirit of it, and I’m all for Scottish women using it but if it falls on stony ground for many folks that don’t understand it, it’s a bit of a wasted opportunity to educate imo.

Brk · 27/07/2023 15:16

“Reality Matters”

“Men don’t decide what a woman is”

“Gender appropriation is exploitation”

Eggonmychips · 27/07/2023 14:02

BigMaggieShoes · 26/07/2023 16:30

What about:
"It's intrusion not inclusion"

I like this!

I'm amazed MN haven't deleted some of the replies here.

I like trans women are trans women. And most have a penis.

How about, trans women are trans women and they are all biologically male.

tootiredtobother · 27/07/2023 09:03

oooh Born not Worn, way better.

tootiredtobother · 27/07/2023 09:03

'You be You, and I'll be Me, but you can't be me.

WearyLady · 27/07/2023 08:58

My vote goes to 'Born not worn' but the addition of the word 'woman' might help to make it more explicit for the initiated.
'Woman: born not worn' has a ring to it. Short and to the point.

parietal · 27/07/2023 08:45

A slogan like 'women won't wheest' only works for an ingroup.

Who is the audience for this slogan? Who do you imagine will use it? A message that can be in posters on the walls of primary schools might not be the same as one used on Twitter by women.

I definitely like 'no one is born in the wrong body' but it doesn't capture the argument against gender stereotypes.

I think the full GC position might be -
Present as you wish but keep single sex spaces for women.

But that is not a v snappy slogan

FlirtsWithRhinos · 27/07/2023 08:00

I can't accept your gender if you won't accept my sex.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 27/07/2023 07:59

Female reality matters
