I just am staggered at how idiotic the police are being, as well as all the rest of their horrific behaviour. Did they really think that supplying the video footage in jumbled up order, with 3 hours missing, would go unnoticed and unremarked upon by Zayna's legal team? That no one would spot the massive omissions and inconsistencies in the log compared to the video? Or that no one would connect the report from the hospital to the 2 days that she was in custody for?? Or that there might be independent CCTV footage of the police outside with the van?

Having watched the Sky news clip linked, I am haunted by the look on Zayna's face at the point where she looks up at the CCTV camera, it is absolutely the face of a traumatised, terrified and desperate woman.

BellsMoon · 26/07/2023 15:19

I misremembered. It was her solicitor talking about it.

I think I remember coming across Zayna's story a good few months ago on Twitter. There was a video of where she did an interview in front of a live audience. I remember being shocked at the time when she was talking about what happened to her. I was surprised that it hadn't been picked up by msm but I'm glad this has finally got coverage.

She's very brave to take on GMP, with all the spotlight and the negative, vicious misogynistic, probably racist, crap that will come her. I hope she gets the answers and the justice she deserves.

I think Round should just state they believe the woman was asleep in the shower and that it was probably all a dream.

Then we can get on with ignoring them. Just another sick wind up merchant I assume. Would like to be proved wrong though.

You won't be. This area of the site is full of these.

It's not as though there are not enough dens of rampant misogyny elsewhere on the internet to satisfy even the most ardent woman-hater - nor sites where gender critical subs have been removed but some really unpleasant incel regions have flourished.

You wouldn't get me on such a site at gunpoint. But they just can't resist infiltrating into women's spaces - even in cyberspace.

So by your logic we may as well legalise date rape if you automatically dont believe a woman who has drugs in their system has been raped

Its possible for her both to have taken cocaine and been raped.

The police have the missing footage, they are just refusing to release it to her. How do you explain that?

Which night? She was in custody for 40 hours.

The effects of cocaine last 15-30 minutes. She was in custody for 40 hours.

But even if she was "off her head on cocaine" - what relevance does that have?

Have they provided any explanation of the breach of PACE timings? Also if she was seen by the FME, where are that professionals notes and name, in the custody record?
I cannot believe that three hours of recoding have been "lost" when they were already aware of the horrendous "errors"in this case.
One incident would be horrific, a series of them, in the same custody suite, could be seen as looking like a pattern.

Just of curiosity, why are you here?

On a board dedicated to feminism and women's rights?

There's a perennial problem when women complain of sexually-unwanted conduct perpetrated against them by the establishment, or by men in general. This is the more-or-less default position of challenging that woman's integrity before they even begin to question the males' behaviour.

Rather than believe what the crime statistics tell them, or the general pattern #MeToo illustrates, there is a stubborn, socially ingrained misbelief - given to rugsweeping or outright denial - that men could possibly be the perpetrators of such crimes. Conversly, society is far more comfortable with the assumption that it must be women who are liars.

This is aside from the unassailable statistical evidence that the overwhelming majority of sex offenders are male. Still, it's women who are to blame and they must be punished twice - firstly by the indignity of being assaulted in the first place and secondly by the legal system which will pull out all the stops to make her unenviable experience her own fault. As for the police, the measure of someone's present behaviour is what they've done in the past. And institutionally, their present record is woeful.

Why do people do this? Why default to the position that any woman who dares assert her own boundaries and or preserve her bodily automy, having (allegedly) had this violated, is a liar?

I believe the phrase given to this is 'persistence in the face of all evidence to the contrary'.

A misogynistic police force who have been shown to behave in this manner over and over again or a member of the public treated in a horrendous manner, I know who I believe.

The police in this country are dangerous and need sorting properly

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 26/07/2023 12:57

Jesus it's horrific. The fact that they are refusing to hand over the missing footage screams abuse.

I have near zero trust in the police at this point.

Pixiedust1234 · 26/07/2023 12:53

AHugeTinyMistake · 26/07/2023 12:25

Also - being held in custody for 40 hours is not normal. GMP surely would have had to apply to extend her custody beyond 24 hours. So what was the reason for that? She wasn't charged with a crime, let alone a serious one that would justify that.

Everything about what happened to her is wrong.

I missed that part. 40 hours, most of it stripped. Fucking unbelievable.

No wonder women don't trust the police. They repeatedly lie, mis apply the law to their own advantage and can't even provide all the footage.
My guess is that they're protecting the indefensible and suddenly there'll be yet another predatory officer exposed.

SerafinasGoose · 26/07/2023 12:25

AHugeTinyMistake · 26/07/2023 12:20

Well, this is one of the worst things I have read. Though there's been some competition this week with poor Amber

I believe her. And it would be dead easy for GMP to clear up what happened - just find the missing 3 hours of footage and job done, surely.

I hope she recovers ok. Brave lady for coming forward.

It's horrifying, particularly in the wake of Wiltshire police 'blacklisting' people for perceived 'hate speech' (cf. 'sex is real and sometimes it matters), the treatment of Caroline Farrow by Sussex Police, and, most gravely, Sarah Everard and the Met, as well as the Met's behaviour toward women attending her vigil and later advice as to women's recommended course of action should they feel threatened in public.

And people wonder why women's trust in the police is at an all-time low?

Thoughts are with Zayna, and her courage in taking on this misogynistic, antediluvian institution knowing how far the odds are stacked against her.
