Well done to the hotel staff. ‘trans ‘woman’ given key to the unisex changing room instead of the female changing room ‘trans woman’ not happy.

I don’t know, I wonder if it’s time we moved past the idea of the hypothetical lovely harmless transwoman in women’s changing rooms and moved straight on to stating the obvious: lack of respect for women’s boundaries is the single most dangerous quality a man can possess.

I think it’s a simple message and a straightforward one to communicate. And it’s a very important message for young women to hear, which has broad applicability beyond the trans debate.

Yes! You get my vote.

I think Andrew Neil's initial peak was from Choo Cole's testimony in the States, which is truly horrifying.

It was indeed. I'm just wondering what finally made him look. She's been on TV before and written about. I'm assuming he didn't look before because it all sounded so distanced from anything that was relevant to him.

Perhaps a combination of things rising up in the public consciousness: Isla Bryson, women's sports, Starmer on Radio 5 with Nicky Campbell doing a weird half flip flop.. and maybe finally our lovely friend Anne? I guess we'll never know. But sunlight is definitely pouring in from several places now.

Anne didn't wander anywhere. Anne walked with deliberation and purpose.

meowgender · 01/08/2023 12:51

Agreed it's like if someone broke into your house and insisted that it was perfectly okay to do so, as they don't want to hurt you or steal anything or cause any harm.

Yes. This needs to be said over and over again and loudly.

Agreed. As demonstrated beautifully by Anne's digital footprint. From gaslighting "Myra" with Anne's blog of how lovely and harmless Anne is, to getting angry that Anne was given the dignity of a key to the unisex changing rooms "with me in this skirt!", to the time it took for Anne to realise that Anne would get outrage, not sympathy for wandering through (not around, Robin, if you're reading this 👍) the women's changing rooms while teenage girls were naked and changing.... all the way through to the MILF milking porn reveal.

Who knows Anne, it may have been you who caught Andrew Neil's eye at just the right time for him to take a peek at what was going on. If so, thank you 👍

I had a similar experience as a young child. On holiday at the beach with my parents and younger sister while looking for a place to sit down we came across a man sunbathing naked in the sanddunes. We averted our eyes and gave his hollow a swerve to find a spot further along and lower down on the beach. A bit later we looked up and there he was with a t shirt on but no shorts and genitals on full display standing on the skyline immediately above us. Power stance needless to say. I remember thinking ah, he's just enjoying the sunshine. My mum said don't look, don't react, that's what he wants you to do.
Yup. She knew.

The problem with the 'Anne in girls' changing rooms' thing is that Anne might well be lovely, no threat, etc, and doubtless it would've been fine if she didn't perv or flaunt her differences, but you can't let Anne in and then bar all the other 'Annes' - you'd have to let any possibly dodgy Annes in too. It's like me saying that I can take my pooch into the playground in the park because she won't poop there and will just sit quietly. The rules have to apply to all. ( I don't mean to be disrespectful - it's just the only example I could think of that's not human-related.) So I do feel for the Annes. But they have to use the unisex changing rooms.

Apart from what other people have said about men not respecting women's boundaries are already, and immediately, displaying a red flag, I wouldn't want to share my space with men who are genuinely safe anyway. Even if they didn't realise they were upsetting women.

I don't want to share my changing room because of privacy. I don't want to share with my brother, or my son's friends, or my late father in law. All delightful and wouldn't hurt a fly.

Although there is the obvious problem of predation, it doesn't start and end with that. There is dignity and privacy as well.

it's very galling that suddenly we have to justify why we want to get changed in private!!

DiabolicalFinial · 01/08/2023 11:33

Interestingly, in the tweet above (the exchange with RW), the question is posed as to whether the newspaper mentioned if there were “particular rules for male officials” (my emphasis)…

Treaclemine · 01/08/2023 10:48

That triggers a memory. Geology field trip at Beachy Head. Man sunbathing naked when we arrived, all women, who politely ignored him, he had chosen a secluded spot and we were intruding. We walked out on the wave cut platform and looked for clay extruded by the pressure from the cliffs before turning back. He was now standing at the edge of the rocks. He had put on a t-shirt, but no shorts. Display. Why? We found a different way off the rocks. But he had to claim the beach and embarrass us. We disappointed by not reacting.

BezMills · 01/08/2023 10:39

@DarkDayforMN I absolutely agree. There is a man down at our local beach who has been skinny dipping and walking about naked. He's well on his way to getting his collar felt because the fact that he is making no effort to cover up, is a giant red flag. If he likes swimming with the freeballs, then he can get in the water wearing shorts, take em off and enjoy it, then put em on before he gets back out the water. But no, this guy wants to be naked in front of others, and therefore Red Flag, getting his collar felt and told NO.

Yes we should move on. The social experiment was tried, it’s failed. Women and girls lost out. Men gained.

Well as a man, I sure would like to use the much cleaner and more naice female toilets. I promise to sit down for a wee, and leave the place spotless, and I'm definitely not a wrongun. HOWEVER I won't do this, because there is a rule that applies to all men, based on protecting dignity and privacy of women. I respect that rule (because not a wrongun), and accept that the pongy state of men toilets is not a problem for women to solve.

Froodwithatowel · 01/08/2023 10:33

It does not matter how lovely or safe a male person is: some women cannot use mixed sex spaces. They can't. A male walks in to live his best life and have his most comfortable choice from all the facilities and by doing so some women lose access to any facilities at all .

Disabled women, many Autistic MNetters have talked eloquently about this. Women who have experienced CSA/DV/DA and cannot be in an enclosed space with an unfamiliar man, never mind undress; women of orthodox faiths and religions, many other women too.

Even if we could perform a Vulcan mind meld on every male entering the space and know this is an absolute sweetheart of a male, of which on the planet there are many, those women still could not use the space. And if he's a lovely safe male he would understand that and not wish to exclude them. Or expect them and their lives to revolve around what he expresses to them is currently going on in his head.

Sadly the tweets are already out and shared to prove what Misty says above: yet again in this particular case, the evidence is freely available. This is not an innocent action.

People are so desperate to be kind and gentle and sensitive: and it is being used by those who see a weakness in you to exploit and make the most of. There is no social contract. In this male mindset women are just props. Nothing more.

I’m not saying he should be in women’s spaces @BernardBlacksMolluscs just that him being trans and seeking it doesn’t necessarily indicate a fetish and that he could genuinely believe he’s a woman just like us in the wrong body.

You need to catch up. The rhetoric around this has now changed. Even Mermaids are no longer using the "born in the wrong body" schtick.

(Which only goes to prove that all of this is utter nonsense and always was)

To be clear, those very few people with true gender dysphoria do not believe they are actually the opposite sex and never can be - and in fact, it was originally a condition of transition and getting a GRC that they prove they understood this. They are just extremely unhappy about the sex they are and want to change their appearance/pronouns etc to feel better.

The majority of current transwomen are fetish driven. We KNOW this because of their own words and actions. It's not a MH issue - they are right when they say this. It's a totally different thing to dysphoria. They are cross dressers, transvestites, AGPs. Not transsexuals and definitely NOT women.

Wandering through is a bit over-euphemistic though, it suggests absent-minded, accidental presence. It was clearly quite deliberate walking through a place Anne did not need to walk through for some clear motive of Anne's own.

Imagine RMW’s outrage if the DM article had said “encroaching upon”.

It would have been accurate though. It would have reflected the teenage girls’ in a state of undress perception of what Coombes was doing when Coombes was self-identifying as ‘just taking a shortcut’ through the teen girls changing room.

GailBlancheViola · 31/07/2023 20:51

But I’d completely overlooked that the ‘I’m fine with it, you lot are prudes’ brigade were also MIA. .

They always are when the evidence bursts their be kind you miserable old prudes, TW wouldn't harm a fly bubble, the most they will say is they are not a true TW totally blowing up the you are who you say you are rhetoric.
