Well done to the hotel staff. ‘trans ‘woman’ given key to the unisex changing room instead of the female changing room ‘trans woman’ not happy.

It's a breach of safeguarding - raise a safeguarding complaint with your club in the first instance I suppose?

Anyone showing that level of disrespect for safeguarding shouldn't be an official.

SerafinasGoose · 25/07/2023 23:21

Oooh, 'incidental women!' I'd forgotten that - and forgotten who said it. The insults are coming so thick and fast these days that I don't always remember which direction they were hurled from last, or by whom.

Unfortunately I haven't forgotten 'non men', though. Who could?

chinook · 25/07/2023 23:01

I am in Sheffield this week for the British Summer Swimming Champs as my DD is competing. She said this person was in the female changing room yesterday, along with other female officials. These are open changing rooms where young girls, mainly aged 14 to 19 are trying to change in and out of compression race suits.
How any adult can think it’s appropriate to be in this environment beggars belief.
Does anyone know who to approach to make sure this stops? It seems a few swimmer parents are on this thread.

"What is the world coming to? Why are trans women more important than children and women."

Well, men have always been more important then women and children. Now it seems that transwomen are, in some cases, to be considered in the category "men". See also inheritance and hereditary peerages, etc.

Apparently it’s because transwomen have chosen to be women, they are intentional women rather than the accidental freaks of nature and xx chromosomes that natal women are. They have also spent squillions of pounds on turning themselves into women so they are therefore better women than those of us who have apathetically stuck to the same body we were born with and have only made minimal and probably totally ineffectual efforts to make it look better with a bit of lippy and a bra that has seen better days. Honestly, some days I think we women should be ashamed of the way we don’t look after our bodies and make the most of them, don’t we realise how damn lucky we are?

Incidentally it took me about two minutes when watching the Barbie film to spot the trans actor who was one of the Barbies. Very few men can pass as women, even when they are dressed in pink .

Thanks @forgotmyusername1 @SabrinaThwaite for confirming that Anne doesn't just want to take up women's changing rooms but is stealing their rankings at competitive swimming as well. What a piece of work.

What was wrong with the unisex changing room? Why did this person want the female only one?

I wondered this too?

Glittertwins · 25/07/2023 19:57

Yes this person is an official

SabrinaThwaite · 25/07/2023 19:55

Glittertwins · 25/07/2023 18:48

This person is also using women's toilets and changing rooms at an event where the majority of competitors are under 18

Is he at the British?

Shame that the Swim England policies only applies to competitors.

Maybe British Swimming needs to put some more thought into safeguarding at competitions where adult non-competitors might be looking to self ID into opposite sex facilities.

Just to clear something up for me please,

Is gender now considered the same as sex?

So it's gender that is how spaces are split?

Because I thought sex still trumped gender when it came down to it?

The answer depends on who you are asking!

Stonewall say the ladies facilities are for anyone with inner lady feelz (and those of us who have female bodies and no particular inner feelz should be told to change in a cupboard if we don’t want to share with Anne)

The guidance on the Equality Act 2010 says that the ladies is for biological females and the (vanishingly) small number of transsexuals with a gender recognition certificate are who are indistinguishable from the sex they have transitioned to look like.

A huge number of public services and businesses have been trained by Stonewall (and Mermaids et al) to believe that the first scenario is the law.

TWETMIRF · 25/07/2023 17:28

The genderists want spaces to be done on gender instead of sex so transwomen can go in the ladies but conveniently forget that there are so many genders that it would be impossible to have facilities for all of them. It's very transphobic of them to insist that only transwomen and transmen are allowed facilities by gender and everyone else has to suck it up

But we are, aren’t we?

@SapphosRock it is so prescient that I am wondering whether Walliams and Lucas had seen this coming years back, but assumed that such behaviour would never be countenanced as regular in our society and so could be the subject of humour. Heaven forbid!!

Does anyone remember this Little Britain sketch?

Do we think Anne swims in the men's or women's category if they take part in swimming competitions?

We know that Anne swims in the women’s category and is in world top ten for 65-69 category.

They are much slower than the other men and wouldn’t be anywhere the top ten in the men’s.

Isn't it interesting how, of all the common female names Anne could have chosen to use instead of giving away somebody'd real name, the name chosen to refer to a 'baddie' just happened to be one that's only ever associated with one single person: a serial killer.

That's a very good point, which hadn't occurred to me.

"In fact, I don’t actually want to upset anyone, but I am determined that I am going to use the female changing rooms."

'In fact, I don't care if I actually upset anyone, but I am determined etc etc because my sense of male entitlement is so breathtaking that I don't actually care about anyone else's feelings. Especially not women's.'

FTFY, 'Anne.'

Florissante · 25/07/2023 14:04

The sense of entitlement in that post is astonishing.

Florissante · 25/07/2023 14:01

Yeah. Why would any woman feel uncomfortable in an enclosed private space with an angry bloke in a skirt and a bad wig?

escapingthecity · 25/07/2023 14:01

SqueakyDinosaur · 25/07/2023 11:38

Here is Anne Coombes' own blog from last year on the subject of changing for swimming. The entitlement and encroachment is absolutely jaw-dropping, IMO:

https://annecoombes.medium.com/why-changing-is-a-conundrum-following-my-change-e3914e5e14ea

"In fact, I don’t actually want to upset anyone, but I am determined that I am going to use the female changing rooms. I am not going to be shunted off to a separate facility such as a disabled changing room. As I see it, the problem with that solution is that once it is taken not only are you identified as being different but it will inevitably become permanent. Having been ostracised, no one will give any consideration as to when that arrangement will come to an end."

He goes on to say that it's up to the woman who objects to find a solution that he is happy with.

Do we think Anne swims in the men's or women's category if they take part in swimming competitions?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 25/07/2023 13:17

TalkTV presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer also weighed in, tweeting: 'Yeah, sure, what all women and girls are looking for when they're naked in a changing room is a big angry man who demands to be in there with them because he's dressed as a woman. Uh huh.'
