Well done to the hotel staff. ‘trans ‘woman’ given key to the unisex changing room instead of the female changing room ‘trans woman’ not happy.

Correct, they could have gone through 2 large glass doors, giving immediate access to the poolside without the need of changing rooms.

So Coombes had that choice but opted for the female communal (no cubicles) changing room with female communal (no cubicles) showers as Coombes preferred route?

“Anne, they’re going through your posts over there, time to deactivate.”

Makes you wonder what else that swimming official has been posting about on social media.

"Over there"... presumably meaning over here on this thread.

@Helleofabore I guess that shows that at least one of the usual posters is on here and staying quiet.

Hello! 👋 Genuinely, please do join in and let's talk about why a third space for Anne (and all transwomen who would feel uncomfortable in the men's changing rooms and toilets) may or may not be a good answer. Surely that's better than Anne feeling the need to resign as an official. I haven't seen anyone trying to exclude Anne from officiating or joining in at the Masters level. It shouldn't need to come to that. There is an answer here, which offers dignity to all. Surely Anne cares more about swimming and officiating in competitions than retaining access to the women's changing rooms?

Glittertwins · 29/07/2023 09:47

There were also para swimmers, some pre-teen, who do need assistance with race suits. These things take a while to put on, even if the swimmer able bodied.

redalex261 · 29/07/2023 09:43

that’s great, really measured

You know, even as a female, I probably wouldn't walk through an open changing area if I didn't need to as there was another route available.

Well, quite.

I can see an argument for female officials popping in to announce that event x begins in y minutes but beyond that, no one who isn’t themselves competing needs to be around the girls when they are changing.

These are able bodied girls between 14-19, so perfectly capable of dressing themselves.

here’s the Mumsnetter’s OG post from a few pages back:

It’s not a tweet, it’s on a twitter-ish platform called Mastodon. No interaction but it doesn’t look like Coombes ever has much interaction on that platform?

I’m not a Mastodon user, I just googled it up. Coombes uses the same user name on several platforms.

Ah, OK. Showing my social media tech ignorance.
Hopefully someone will put that screenshot on Twitter for a wider reach.

@PriamFarrl thank you. Similar to Discord then. As a mum of an autistic adolescent girl with a gender-questioning history, I try and keep up to date with what she might come across. I'll add it to my list.

redalex261 · 29/07/2023 09:38

I’ve just sent a short email the Mercure thanking them for doing the right thing - thanks to the person who posted the email address. I just hope they don’t backpedal and apologise. As an aside there is a further Daily Mail story today about this person causing complaint at Sheffield swimming pool during a kids swim meet when they persisted in using female changing area as a shortcut to the pool deck. Clearly on a mission to cause upset.

Thanks @Glittertwins so basically Anne could easily have got to the pool some other way but chose to go through the women’s changing rooms

The makes the official response sound even more farcical. Anne had no business whatsoever being in the female changing rooms.

From Twitter, for the benefit of those of us unfamiliar with the changing room set up at the competition venue:

The UTTER entitlement to just stroll through a private female area, after having lived for decades as a man, just because you have a bad wig and a skirt on.
How absolutely deluded and self absorbed can you possibly be?

Glittertwins · 29/07/2023 09:28

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/07/2023 09:22

Just so I’m clear - were all the other male judges using the female changing rooms as a walk through or was that a privilege reserved fir this man because they had a skirt on?

im assuming that unless they’ve completely taken leave of their senses all the other male judges were not allowed to go tramping through the women's changing rooms to get places which means thete was another route Anne could have taken but didn’t. I wonder why?

There was another way to access the pool that does not require any changing room access.

CaramelMac · 29/07/2023 09:27

If you don’t want to be seen as a dirty old man perving at little girls then it’s probably best not to involve yourself in kids sporting competitions and hang around changing rooms while young girls are changing whilst dressed in your fetish outfit.

Mastadon is odd. It’s a bit like Twitter in that you can post any old thing, like opinions on a tv program or pictures of your cat. The way if differs is how it works. Twitter is one big thing. Everyone is on the same platform. Mastadon is different. You have different servers and you will only see the people on your server. So for example you could join via a general U.K. server and you’d only see people from the U.K. This means that the conversations, replied etc are going to be based on being in the U.K. and relevant to U.K. life.
Anna is on an LGBT server so all the people seeing her post will also be on the same server. This means that their views will most likely align with hers. Therefore the replies to her posts are all supportive.

From what I have read on previous threads, I think there is a lot of support from members of this board for third spaces being available in addition to single sex spaces.
Hopefully one day the T in the LGBT will realise that this is the only logical way forward and get behind a campaign for them to be provided. Unfortunately at the moment the loudest voices are like Anne's, shutting down any idea of third spaces because it's "dehumanising". Thankfully we seem to be edging closer to the fact that they have no argument to prop up their assertions. Anne's own tweets seem to be doing a great job of showing the real motivation behind Anne refusing to use them.

What Coombes doesn't appear to grasp is that a lot of women would relish the offer of a private changing space at a swimming pool or a hotel spa.

I'm not the only adult human female who hates communal changing rooms, am I?

decent people accept the rule of self identity.

I don't know if there's a name for this conversational device or whether its just common or garden manipulation, but it's setting the terms for the debate, isn't it? decent people will indulge me, if you won't you're not a decent person and can be ignored (bigot and transphobe that you are). The problem with that is that the definition of decent people isn't Anne's to make or own.

Pure narcissistic emotional manipulation.

It is also interesting to note that we don’t have the usual posters here supporting Coombes. Why is that?

Because Coombes has been visibly and publicly “saying the quiet part out loud”?
