Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
FlirtsWithRhinos · 15/07/2023 15:00

I'm all for it. Feminists may have been the first to start questioning sex stereotypes and gender roles, but we understood pretty quickly these things harm both sexes. Elevating women out of sexism isn't a zero-sum game where what we gain, men lose, it's a win/win where both sexes work together to replace sexist structures, escape harmful gender roles and fulfill their real potential.

Great. They can "expand the bandwidth" of what it means to be male and make space for all the AGPs

Yep! Obviously men need a Minster for men for different reasons than women need a minister for women, but I think it's a position that could be used for good.

Why are transwomen so scared to go in male spaces? That can be their first task to teach those men who don't understand, that a man who dresses and thinks differently to them is to be embraced and welcomed despite any discomfort the men may feel.

Personally I was hoping for a Harry Hill fight to settle it all ...

Dennis Noel Kavanagh might do it.

I think there are male specific areas of policy that need addressing and a specific person high up in government tasked with ensuring they don’t get brushed under the carpet might be one way to tackle that. But setting up a Minister of Men makes it seem like men are just as hard done by in government as women and undermines the efforts to address women’s lack of power in the public sphere (and yes, despite several female PMs, there is definitely still a lack of power for women in the public sphere).

I don't, in theory, see anything wrong with addressing men issues. If it was a man saying well there is a minister for women so we should get one for men it would be a different story. Ignoring toxic masculinity hasn't made it go away so perhaps it time it was addressed and a minister for men is one possibly. How often do we say something isn't women's problem to solve?

I don’t mind if they have one. However this all needs to be tackled at a grass roots level. But at least they don’t have to waste time by using ridiculous language and can identify exactly the type of people that will need and use services.
