Any child who has had their puberty stopped before it began will never be an elite athlete. They'll be a medical patient for life as they try to repair the devastation wreaked on their body caused by the lack of pubertal development.

that's right and I think there's probably a social side to it too, most of the very young 'trans kids' are probably to some degree like that poor Joly child, who seemingly gets rewarded by the father at every instance of stereotypically 'girly' behaviour (eg hating jeans, loving pretty dresses, etc).

Agree. We see the proof every single day with detransitioners like Ritchie and Chloe. You just have to listen to Scott Newgent to comprehend the enormous battle for even a semblance of normal life, pain free, after surgery.

Jazz Jennings had puberty halted and originally looked like a poster child for the process, but time marches on. Now the poor kid is showing a level of emotional distress and physical effects that you'd have to be made of stone (like the mother) to ignore. That kid can barely walk a mile, at 20 something. An elite athlete???? Not a chance.

I agree, the inability to just say female sport is for females only is infuriating. But OTOH even a 5-year-old boy has had a mini-puberty so, depending on the exact wording of the prohibition, every male would be excluded, because they have gone through some stage of puberty.

While there are developmental differences between 5 year old boys and girls, these don’t have any effect at the U6 level in cycling - I’ve watched hundreds of U6s race and there really is no difference. The ones who succeed at that level are the children with good enough motor control to actually ride in a relatively straight line and use the brakes.

Sex differences in cycling do not typically manifest until U10-U12 and girls can retain an advantage (due to early growth spurt) well into U12. After that the boys catch up and overtake.

We always have separate prizes/podiums for boys and girls of course, even if they are racing together.

Yes I hate this term they use as, call me cynical, but in my mind it just means TRAs and the like will start trying to advocate for earlier and earlier puberty blockers.... which really is a very depressing thought!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think males can compete in the female competition if they have taken puberty blockers and have not undergone male puberty.

These chappies (or girlies depending on your sleight of hand willingness) still don't have a female body, with all that entails. It's still not like against like.

Way better than before, but a female is not any version of a male. And, if it is to be protected, it should be a positive definition. Not simply male not gone through puberty and not testosterone level dependent.

Emily Bridges has already threatened to go abroad and compete for another country. One that is not so 'transphobic' as to ensure fair competition for women athletes.

What a deplorable loss to British cycling this will be.

👀

Iran?

Can we call it magical unrealism?

Or 'The Will to Win'.

Good point. Perhaps a career in fiction awaits.

Austin's statement reads like they've sacrificed and slogged away at this for decades to achieve some level of success. They took up cycling 2019. Four fucking years ago.

If all this was happening in a parallel universe it would be comedy.

ArabeIIaScott · 17/07/2023 22:19

SerafinasGoose · 17/07/2023 20:22

Why do they disseminate such demonstrable lies?

The statement from UCI is available for all to read. It's there in clear black and white: by no criteria are trans people are now banned from cycling events.

They know they're lying; everyone else knows they're lying; precisely what is the point?

You know the drill - keep repeating a lie often enough and hope that people believe you. It's standard practise for gender activism, because they can't make any rational arguments.

So they would not see their statements as lies.

They do literally think they count as women, ridiculous as that seems. They see the revised ruling as them being expected to take part under unacceptable and unfair conditions, which is tantamount to being banned. Reality is hitting hard.

SerafinasGoose · 17/07/2023 20:22

TheBiologyStupid · 15/07/2023 13:50

Stonewall lying as usual:

Liz Ward, director of programmes at Stonewall, the LGBTQ+ charity, said blanket exclusions on trans people were “unfair”

She said: “Trans people deserve the same opportunities as everyone else to enjoy the benefits of sport. Blanket exclusions on trans people participating are fundamentally unfair, which often causes trans people to stop playing the sports they love."

Of course they can still do sport - just not in the wrong sex category. FFS!

Yippee!! Female riders will now take all the places in that race. And not one that used linguistic trickery of ‘but people use my pronouns’ so society sees me as a woman, therefore I am female!

I don’t have a shred of sympathy for any of these males. It they respected women and girls and respected sport they would never have sought to compete in female sporting events. But they did. They cannot try for sympathy for being strung along either. Why did they ever insist on forcing this issue in the first place?? Or are they so desperate to in forcing their own perceptions onto society that they fully believed those assuring them with falsehoods that they really were like all those other female athletes, and it was totally fair ! Gosh they were just better at it than those female athletes!

Ivy was a fucking university lecturer, and Bridges is or was in uni! These are supposedly intelligent people!

Ivy's PhD was on the art of bullshit.

Go figure.

Well, Emily can take Emilyself anywhere Emily chooses but I don’t think many countries tolerate men in women’s sport.

@puffyisgood
The fact is that there are dozens of plausible reasons why the likes of Ms Ivy and Bridges should be allowed to compete against women, and it's totally understandable why they would want to emphasise these reasons when they speak on the subject

What did you mean by this? Do you have any examples of plausible reasons?

Is Ivy a "Ms"?

Baldieheid · 17/07/2023 19:18

Good. Males don't belong in female anything.

Bridges enjoys cycling so much that I'm absolutely sure he'll be determined to compete in the Open Category and will TRAIN FUCKING HARDER in order to win.

Won't you, sweetie?

head tilt

Backstreets · 17/07/2023 15:59

Yeah dozens is pushing it a bit init? “They think they’re women”, “they’ve disadvantaged themselves against other men by messing with their hormones” and “they really, really want to” are the only three I can think of and 0 of them are a good reason women should shove over
