poor Ems Sad

Indeed. What Emily fails to grasp is that biological male/ female differences are not the result of a few centuries of capitalism and patriarchy but the result of millennia of evolution which started when multi celled creatures cottoned on to the realisation that what worked for single sex amoeba lurking in the swamp didn’t cut it in a more complex environment.

The irony is that if Emily had been born a man I doubt if the social inequalities experienced by women in all walks of life who have been affected and belittled by centuries of patriarchy and capitalism would have troubled Emily one jot or kept them awake at night for a single second.

photos of the podium finishes from Emily Bridges' new trans friendly cycling tournament popped up on my social media feed. out of 18 podium finishers (notionally split halfway between traditional M/F and three classes making 9 podium places per gender) at most 3 looked to be what you or I might call female. I'm not sure what this says about how willing and able women are to compete under such rules.

Is that Thundercrit? It's not really new (I think in 7th year now). The race cats are hilarious: https://thundercrit.com/race-categories/

Luckily, it's a meaningless race for fixed gear hipster Londoners/wankers.

Race Categories

In the past we’ve always strived for equality and to be one of the most open and inclusive races out there. Since the very beginning, we’ve offered equal prizes for the men and women’s race. But we…

does this apply to the cycling world cup that starts this week?

Yes it absolutely applies to the World Championships starting in Glasgow this week so Emily will not be permitted to 'compete'. And also to the Masters World Champs in Manchester in September, so sadly VI is out of the running. Such a shame.

Looks like Sandy is in denial of how things have shifted over the last year or two. And as the general public become more aware of what has being going on under the radar, public opinion is hardening against permitting males in the female category.

World Rugby, World Swimming, World Athletics and now the UCI all coming out in favour of protecting female sports.

The IOC must be coming under pressure to follow the science backed stance taken by governing bodies of its most high profile sports to set their rules.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 18/07/2023 21:17

What’s Sandy’s Twitter handle?

MaximusPaddimous · 18/07/2023 21:01

For those who may want a laugh, Sandy is still melting down on Twitter. Yesterday she accused Helen Joyce of being a kept woman who had never had a job. How embarrassing.

Truthlikeness · 18/07/2023 19:40

I'm a bit older, and finally retiring from my sport as the impact of perimenopause becomes more noticeable. It's no co-incidence that so many of these transwomen have a twilight blossoming at exactly the time biological woman are struggling with declining physical abilities.

BCCoach · 18/07/2023 18:15

11.64s apparently, and won as a 35 year old in masters so probably against much older women (masters starts at 35). The current senior (under 35) world record is 10.1s. It’s almost as if they waited until they could compete against much older athletes before transitioining…

VI races in track masters. Weight really doesn’t matter on the track, it’s all about raw power. They would be straight out the back on the first hill in a women’s road race.

yeah, i think VI's 'world record' was in a 200 metre sprint, as you can imagine that doesn't take long on a bike. VI is overweight of course but has thighs that wouldn't disgrace a [male] bodybuilder, not remotely attainable for a middle aged woman.

Clymene · 18/07/2023 16:57

I think puberty blockers can cause tallness because they prevent bone plate fusion.

I don't think Veronica Ivy has the physique of an elite athlete either and yet still seems to do pretty well against much fitter women :-)

But I agree - still so much unknown at this point about PBs and I can't imagine genital surgery is at all conducive to hours in the saddle.

I still think we need to be careful of assuming puberty blockers destroy any chance a transwoman has to be competitive in female sports. For every puberty blocked child describing their health issues - I'm sure there are at least as many who claim it didn't do them any harm.

Whether they are telling the truth...who can tell.. but you can look at someone like Nikkie de Jager who was 'hormone blocked' at 14 (perhaps that was too late to fully suppress?) and topped out at nearly 6'3" and around 13 stone, and I don't think claims to be in anything other than perfect health. In the right sport, someone with Nikkie's physical attributes could be a serious force.

Many sports also favour the young. The most damaging effects of PBs may not kick in until later years.

I don't think a Nikkie's life as a make up artist is any comparison to an elite athlete? The average age for girls to start puberty is 11, while for boys the average age is 12.

Until there's some effective research allowed (which thankfully Cass is insisting on this for children in the UK) we have limited evidence of the impact of these drugs on brain development, bone density, heart & muscle growth, the endocrine system, etc.

Baldieheid · 18/07/2023 13:12

Nikkie is very tall, but also pretty overweight and what I'd call robustly built. As the late great Bill McLaren said, " you can tell he's a prop, they ride low in the water".

I do get your point though. Males are not females and sex either matters, or it doesn't. The "halfway house" compromise is sheer nonsense and impossible to enforce. It's simpler to just say "no males at all, females only".

Makeup tutorials, I couldn't give a stuff what sex the YouTuber is. Sports, refuges, medical spaces, maternity care, or just loos and changing rooms, I care.

sure. part of the reasons for using eunuchs as palace guards and whatnot was their size and, relative to women, physical strength.

Beowulfa · 18/07/2023 13:05

Have any of the transwomen cyclists undergone full genital surgery? I would have thought the need for constant wound dilation would make the hours in the saddle quite difficult. Given that pro cyclists suffer saddle sores with undamaged genitals.

Almost embarrassing how easily they are hoist by their own petard, init?

But of course, when it comes to GI, normal rules (especially the ones of physics and biology) don't apply.

that's right and I think there's probably a social side to it too, most of the very young 'trans kids' are probably to some degree like that poor Joly child, who seemingly gets rewarded by the father at every instance of stereotypically 'girly' behaviour (eg hating jeans, loving pretty dresses, etc).

It's absolutely bloody tragic, and it's the reason why people like Susie Green are as dangerous as they are. There really need to be some serious questions asked about toxic masculinity and the lack of value - often sheer derision - meted out by society to effeminate males.

That a child needs to seek the approval of parents for shunning all things masculine says much about how transing children says so much more about the parents than it does about them.

No wonder some of these high profile parents are so invested in shouting 'bigot', and 'we are under attack from you' every time the mildest of questions are asked. Facing up to the truth that their own children have paid the price of this current, likely temporary, social contagion must be simply too painful for them to bear.

It's funny, too, (strange, not 'ha ha') how when you drill down to it, this movement is conservative to its nth degree.

VI isn’t happy either. Says only “cis men” and TW will be in the open category which means it’s not open at all. I think VI’s got a point. Open really just means men 😂

I love how McKinnin who prides themself on their erudition and word trickery is instantly reduced to s'not fair, I wanna when they've run out of arguments because mummy says an unequivocal no.

Although this is about dogs, it is still very informative to see the negative effects of early neutering.
