Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Should threads be moved out of here as well as in?

Just musing really.

We have threads moved into this board if monitors / MN think they are about sex & gender.

But we have recently had the Disney thread, which wasn't really about sex and gender but a wider issue, being used to say that FWR is racist and needs an even closer eye on it. We now have the great awakening thread which is only about sex and gender tangentially and more about conspiracy theory placed on this board.

Should the FWR users be actively reporting non sex&gender threads requesting they be moved out to somewhere more appropriate?

I do agree with some of Retired's other points, e.g.
And please remember that the splitting of what was FWR was a reactionary move by mumsnet in response to complaints that talking about trans issues was alienating so please do not on any account collude with that ahistorical anti feminist notion.

I think that's a good point.

Likewise about not responding if we suspect a thread might be in bad faith. I'd rather see those threads left to stand than risk having genuine posts moved - that just feels completely wrong.

But if I see a specific thread has been used as an example of racism when that thread does not appear to have originated from this board then yeah, I'm going to notice that and point it out, even if it does risk attracting multiple exclamation marks - I'll live.

I guess another possibility is that there was an Annecy thread started both in 'News' and on this board and that one of them was deleted?

When you say 'it happened' what is 'it'?

In reference to: I've never seen any racism in FWR, quite the opposite in fact. !!!!!!!!!

I mean I was expecting you to say ' someone disparaged the race of x and nobody challenged it so I did' or something. Or someone said y people were z...and I reported it and it's still up...or whatever.

But you saw IT when you read IT before and did nothing. Ok.

Floisme · 05/07/2023 21:56

It's still up now - that link still works

Boiledbeetle · 05/07/2023 21:51

Floisme · 05/07/2023 21:47

The thread was still on 'News' when I looked but I'm happy to be corrected if I've got it wrong.

The thread still existed in news when i followed the link earlier today

IwantToRetire · 05/07/2023 20:43

In fact it is easy to see that it was deleted. Not I suspect for being on the "wrong" forum.

IwantToRetire · 05/07/2023 20:39

by a poster pointing out it was an 'In the News' thread, and yet we've now had the same claim repeated here

I think youll find the Annecy thread was originally posted here, because I remember wondering why it was.

It may well have been moved.

However admirable that you are putting so much effort into pointing out what you percieve to be false allegations but accept superficial results that prove your point to then entitle you to demand a clarification.

Do you have the date stamp of when the thread was originally created and on which forum?!!!!!!!!!

Floisme · 05/07/2023 19:28

I just took a look at that thread in Site Stuff, the one about this board that's been mentioned already. I've not read the whole thing but the Annecy thread was referenced there too by BodegaSushi, on the first page, as an example of racism on this board. This was quickly corrected (on the same page) by a poster pointing out it was an 'In the News' thread, and yet we've now had the same claim repeated here.

BodegaSushi Did you mean to link to a different thread? If yes, please can we see it?

IwantToRetire · 05/07/2023 17:59

IwantToRetire · 05/07/2023 17:57

I read the Tori Bowie thread, it wandered a bit, but it was a discussion about the poor healthcare black pregnant woman recieve.

I think someone posting a comment saying women from BME communities were more likely to be over weight and not look after their health, and saying there was no issue about different levels of care is a bit of an eye opener.

AlisonDonut · 05/07/2023 17:51

IwantToRetire · 05/07/2023 17:23

I also referenced other racist threads that have popped up in FWR recently.

I think you're being over sensitive, I've never seen any racism in FWR, quite the opposite in fact.

I have been on a number of threads where the issue is about a specific ethnic minority or the shared experience of Black women and the tone is very different from other threads.

And this isn't something happening over the past few weeks, or whatever this conspiracy theory that is being talked up.

It happened on the thread about Tori Bowie and other threads about worse outcomes from during child birth. It happened on the thread about the child abuse and allegations that child abuse gangs are always men from minority ethnic communities. It happened on the thread about Ngozi Fulani and the Buckingham Palace incident and the one about Diane Abbott.

I cant think how anyone has missed this.

When you say 'it happened' what is 'it'?

elgreco · 05/07/2023 17:50

If they are clickbaity people will comment without looking at the origin.

I read the Tori Bowie thread, it wandered a bit, but it was a discussion about the poor healthcare black pregnant woman recieve. This is a good thing.
I sometimes feel that white women are considered racist by even commenting on these type of threads. But if we stay quiet and let the thread die, we are worse surely?
This board is for all women and none of us should be silenced because we are the wrong colour.
That's a dangerous path.

IwantToRetire · 05/07/2023 17:28

re the Disney thread which like others I hadn't bothered with, but have now because of this thread, what i cant understand is why anyone responsed.

Maybe the films did fail (I dont know) but maybe they were crap. There was no evidence that it was anything to do with having main characters not be steriotypical WASPs. And after all go woke get rich could for instance have been a thread about Bridgeton (oops, dont know how to spell that).

As other have said, surely the best thing if you think someone is posting in bad faith, is just dont join in. Let if fizzle out.

Boiledbeetle · 05/07/2023 17:22

Can anyone confirm if that was ever on this board?

BelleHathor · 05/07/2023 17:21

The language/content of the Annecy doesn't fit FWR. Over 10 years lurking/posting on here, knowledgeable posters would have robustly challenged the overt as well as covert racism.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 05/07/2023 17:16

When you make a serious allegation about racism directed at others, it's important that it's accurate. Sadly there seem to be a number of recent fake allegations being made against this board which does nobody any good.

elgreco · 05/07/2023 17:10

Or deleted. Much more innocuous threads get deleted from here.

elgreco · 05/07/2023 17:08

I an fairly certain it was never on this board. Nothing gets moved from here unless requested.

AlisonDonut · 05/07/2023 17:03

I think it might be because women are responsible for what men do. So it must be FWR's fault.

I'm so sick of this shit.

Floisme · 05/07/2023 16:16

I have been through the whole of the Annecy thread. Very distressing, a lot of ignorance on display, and that's without knowing what the deleted posts said.

But can I ask, what does the thread have to do with the Feminism Sex and Gender board?
The link says the thread is from 'In the news'
It is located on the 'News' board.
I can see no discussion or analysis on the thread that comes from a feminist angle.
I don't recognise the vast majority of posters (although admittedly anyone can name change).
And for what it's worth - because obviously I don't see every thread - I can't remember seeing it on this board.

In short I can see no indication that it originated on Feminism S&G or was moved to S&G. If it was, I would like to know why as I can see absolutely no reason for doing so.

So why is it being used as an example of racism on the Feminism S&G board?
Is it a mistake? Did you mean to link a different thread?

Boiledbeetle · 05/07/2023 14:55

BodegaSushi · 05/07/2023 14:11

@Boiledbeetle and you'll be able to see by scrolling the number of comments deleted for their outright racism.

😳bloody hell that was a shit show of a thread. I think I can guess what the deleted posts probably said!

Those poor women and children.

Floisme · 05/07/2023 14:47

I'm asking not to nitpick but because I think this thread is all about threads being posted on inappropriate boards so I think the history of this particular thread is very relevant.

Floisme · 05/07/2023 14:38

Was it started in S&G and moved to In the news? Or was it the other way round?
I'm not specifically asking you Bodega but does anyone know?

BodegaSushi · 05/07/2023 14:35

Floisme · 05/07/2023 14:31

I hadn't seen the Annecy thread before and I've not read it yet - I will do, thanks - but looking at that link, it appears to have been started on the 'In the News' board. Is that correct or have I missed something?

Does anyone know the history? Was it moved to Feminism S&G and if so, what was the reason?

Must’ve been moved. I hadn’t noticed it had changed.
