I happen to agree with JK Rowling and find the attempts to ‘cancel’ her appalling. And, at least in my case, my refusal to listen to people such as kelly is due to having listened to them enough to realize they are not worth listening to.

i do find it curious that posters who dislike shills for conservative propaganda, like kelly, are accused of attempting to keep people from listening. i have not read one post which stated ‘do not listen to her’. In fact, the gist is ‘i don’t listen to her’. ‘I don’t’ in no way implies ‘you can’t’.

But why do you need to post your personal dislike of someone on a thread by a mother with a troubled child who is promoting something she believes will help other parents?

You are talking over this mother as if your personal preference of highly paid tv presenters should take precedence over this mother in a difficult situation who is seeking to help other parents in similarly difficult situations.

This is mumsnet, a parenting board and that dimension was the point of the thread, not a thread about who you like to watch or won't watch on American TV.

MavisMcMinty · 05/07/2023 14:43

I am left-wing and have not noticed a LW slant on Mumsnet. Just have a look at threads about Brexit, Labour, Conservatives, sometimes it feels like walking through Daily Mail Land.

funnelfan · 05/07/2023 14:12

What is with all these «left» posters completely dehumanising others for not being left wing?

turning this around, knowing that grass roots feminism has been, for many years, associated with the political left, then a tactic to shut them up might involve them someone that believing/saying X makes them right wing. Divide and conquer and all of that.

MalagaNights · 05/07/2023 13:41

Also this is a feminism board, not a left wing feminism board as some people seem to think it is or should be in their view.

And there are many versions of feminism, and even more versions of women's rights.

I don't know why some posters believe only people of one political view have a right to post here. Or that only links to people with left wing views should be shared.
It's a very odd assumption.

MalagaNights · 05/07/2023 13:35

I bloody love Megyn Kelly.

I'd like to be like her.
Whip smart, articulate, brave, tenacious , successful, rich, happily married, beautiful.

And she's totally right on this. And you know what else I love; she changed her mind. Hardly anyone does that these days. At least not this publically.

I'm sure there are things I don't agree with her on, but I really admire her.

DysonSpheres · 05/07/2023 10:44

Didn't Megyn Kelly do an absolutely brilliant interview with Posie Parker (Kelly J Keen?) It was really good.

I am sick of being told people belong to the left or right and will consume whatever I want. It's liberating to widen one's world view.

Those trying to throw verbal dirt on people just for watching something by someone you dislike are intolerant. And that is why this TRA nonsense has a comfortable resting place on the Left, with a nice welcome mat underneath the door.

You believe you are tolerant though, whilst shrieking all the traditional shaming 'be kind' origin words (racist, misogynist, bible thumping, (laughable,Megyn is far from it) bigot, phobic etc etc etc the very same tactics the TRAs use, that's the irony.

Also god help me I hate having to do this shit, but I'm Black and I have listened to Megyn quite a few times. I mostly agree with her views. I also don't agree with everything she says, but I certainly would not call for her to be silenced. Now someone else with my skin tone will say 'I've listened to her and I can't abide her' and that's ok. It's ok to differ.

What's not fine is trying to take ownership of other people through the device of group identity (ie. Being GC or women) and attempt to shame them into not doing what is a human right ie. listening to viewpoints of others.

Inbetween all this crap about identity grouping are individuals who are honestly thinking what on earth has possessed everyone else.

Hear, hear.

Just because I agree with someone about X it doesn't mean that we have the same views on Y - or that either of us should be banned for what we believe, or that other people should be stopped from listening to us and making up their own minds.

If we all just sit and chant "Four legs good: two legs bad" and never listen to the pros and cons re: number of legs, we'll never learn anything.

Too many people nowadays just refuse to think - they actually don't want to know the truth about anything - they just want to regurgitate the same old stuff and prevent anyone from ever challenging it.

As I read recently - "Just because someone disagree with you, it doesn't mean that you are oppressed".

Helleofabore · 05/07/2023 12:14

There is a reason that 'guilt by association' is a fallacy. It is important to note just how often it relies on emotional manipulation for it to convince others.

I guess there are some people who are very concerned about maintaining their 'left wing' credentials and will be swayed by a person who is using this as a tactic to silence women.

Helleofabore · 05/07/2023 12:01

"What is with all these «left» posters completely dehumanising others for not being left wing?"

It really is rather peculiar for feminists I would have thought....

I cannot imagine what feminist vilifies another for reviewing original source material!

I reckon it is those few who believe they might be the most tolerant of feminists....

(using the new meaning of tolerant - which is of course the very opposite of tolerant)

turbonerd · 05/07/2023 11:51

What is with all these «left» posters completely dehumanising others for not being left wing?

It is sickening to read.

Agreeing with conservative politics is not the same as selling your soul to Satan and being a devil-minion forever.

I know, respect and love many people who are christians, conservative and probably right-wing too. They are not automatically racist. They are not automatically nazis (which for the record was a strong government and state controlled socialist political dictatorship).

They love and respect me, with my atheistic and slightly left of centre politics in return. We debate, we disagree, we sort of agree, we reach compromises etc.

Apart from that it is certainly not advisable to rely on other people’s version of what someone said.

And lastly: when I work with drug addicts and criminals who may hold and express abhorrent views is it better to try to talk to them and see if we can return to sanity and Humanity, or should I immediately chuck them to the dogs?

IWillNoLie · 05/07/2023 11:07

Having been encouraged to watch the video by all the TRAs on here telling me not to, I would say definitely worth a watch. She lays out how starting with pronouns has taken us to hugely harming women. I particularly like the point that by using ‘preferred pronouns’ we cede the argument on women’s rights before it is even made. That is an important point I am going to take forward should anyone tell me using preferred pronouns is just ‘being kind’.

No,it'a a comment on the 'she's a nasty racist/bigot/far right nut job so nothing she ever says could be worth listening to' tone of some of the posts in this thread.

Yeah. I wasn't sure, so I clarified.

Thank you for clarifying. You are right, of course. It is ad hom attacks with no discussion.

Is this for me Wicked?

An advanced search on usernames telling women what good feminists do and how ashamed we should be for even watching something is interesting though.

I am not ignoring the message, I am trying to point out that the message that women watching or reading content from even people who are abhorrent should be ashamed is very fucked up for many rather obvious reasons.

Helleofabore · 05/07/2023 10:03

I did expect the ‘FOX NEWS’ reaction to come.

What I noticed, as usual, there was no addressing the content of either video. Just as there was not addressing the fact that Fox News has given voice to female athletes when so many others haven’t. Did anyone post an alternative other than the wonderful Barra Kerr piece? Did I miss it?

So, just narrow minded posts telling others if they watch or read this they are aligning or supporting. I don’t care whether posters like this women or even don’t want to watch it themselves. Absolutely fine. It is the shaming of others that I am objecting to.

Yet a slew of posters who have not posted on FWR are telling us what women are supposed to be watching and reading. For the best of the current women’s rights movement where so many others are telling us what we are and are not.

And we are expected to that those posters at face value as being women who are also campaigning actively to have sex prioritised where it is needed to protect the needs of women and children.

Helleofabore · 05/07/2023 09:49

“You are NOT doing gender critical women any favours”

While you are here, would you like to tell me what you know about gender critical feminism and the FWR board?

Just so I know what credibility to give your shaming.

Ourladycheesusedatum · 05/07/2023 09:46

Alltheprettyseahorses · 05/07/2023 09:10

I'm glad Megyn Kelly is being scrutinised for her wider opinions. Now, for the TRAs on this thread revelling in a chance to burn a witch while shaming women into (im)purity politics, do the same for your own side and let's see what your moral position really is.

I've watched a load of her videos now, I still haven't seen racism.

I would very much like those who tell me she is racist to give me a clue where to look.

And no not Google, not someone saying she was racist, actual clips (in full) of her being racist, or when it was she was racist.

As for being Christian or whatever, who cares, shes not going to convert me to christianity at my advanced age.

Helleofabore · 05/07/2023 09:44

”There's plenty of other women that make intelligent, informed and powerful statements in support of women's sex based rights, many of them in fact on the MN feminism board. You are NOT doing gender critical women any favours coming out to loudly bat for right wing homophobes and racists, and FOX NEWS FFS. You're sadly doing the GC movement real harm and it's a shame some of you are too blinkered to even realise.”

Have you even read what I have posted? Can you tell me where telling someone to stop shaming women for listening or reading a wide range of media is me “coming out to loudly bat”?

Can you tell me why watching and reading media to simply understand what others are saying is ”doing the GC movement real harm”? I am constantly surprised by such censure because it is the opposite to what I recommend to posters who come to FWR. To read widely, go to original sources and make decisions from there.

I am not not ashamed. But you carry on doing things your way and I will continue to read, to fact check, to post original source material and to seek to find the truth.

comeatmeallyouwant · 05/07/2023 09:33

However, following from the ridiculous ‘guilt by consuming media’ accusations on this thread, this is Fox News and will be quickly rejected by those who doing the approved content for the right type of feminist list.

I've read the whole thread - haven't seen any TRA's. Not one. This kind of response is the right wing equivalent of the far left who accuse any moderate or soft lefter of being a Tory.

Come at me all you want, I ain't gonna be reading your rabid responses.😂

I would love to hear Democratic women with huge platforms talk about the impact of gender ideology on women. Please point me their way.

Will Tulsi do? I don't believe she's been excommunicated - yet.

Thank you Clianthe. That was interesting. Obviously they chose clips from members of congress who they knew would deliver on the mantra. But wasn’t that eye opening to see the thought stopping mantra being used at the start.

Particularly around sports.

And Tulsi is another very articulate and clear woman.

It reminds me of this document.

Messaging Guide : Transgender Youth and the Freedom to Be Ourselves From December 2021

This document details how to link discussions about trans rights to race and how to manipulate a conversation away from sports. Because the group recognised that sport was where their demands broke down. In sympathy and fact. Which in turn broke the logic.

It is quite jarring to see the general population described as ‘persuadables’ (If I remember correctly- I am on my phone so cannot read it) . But if moomoola hasn’t seen this one, maybe it will explain how it is being orchestrated.

Megyn Kelley is anything but gender critical. She also isn't a feminist. No reason to discuss her on the feminism boards.

Yes, this thread has a whole lot of discussing her, and not a lot of discussing the actual video and what she says in it. If I largely agree with what she says in this video, it does not mean I agree with what she said the week before.

Helleofabore · 05/07/2023 06:31

Moomoola · 04/07/2023 22:10

2021 census - The total population of England and Wales is about 59.6 million.

262,000 people (0.5%) said their gender identity was different from their sex registered at birth.

I am wondering how those 0.5% can make so much noise. And cause so much division all on their ownsomes. Something is going on.

It is interesting.

Of course, even considering that will be not quite the number as so many on twitter bragged about lying on the census, even if it is double that, there is a huge amplification of their voices. That has been done through getting organisations such as Stonewall to add the ‘T’. That added a megaphone effectively.

Once you get groups such as that involved things such as affirming only treatment and influence on policy for organisations involved in our every day lives become realities.

It has been a long deliberate campaign across multiple fronts.
