Did anyone notice she mentioned the witch trials of jk Rowling was well balanced? It seems like that's quite a controversial thing to say seeing as anything remotely positive about jk must make you a transphobe.... All her work on menopause must mean she knows what a women is?

I hope all goes well with your medical situation, WarriorN

Slothtoes · 28/06/2023 10:19

agree Lifeissweet the interview with Noah- really sad. So unquestioning and this was a kid who sounded like there had been therapy and family support.
I only mean that including Contrapoints was too balanced for my personal taste because I am a raddled and long in the viper tooth T*RF and have a very low tolerance these days for men centering their own validation (or just centering their own access to women and children) to the detriment of others.
But I think the podcast series is a good entry point for anyone new to this area of politics. I agree demonstrating balance in the interviews is a key part of keeping up that openness in approach. People will draw their own conclusions from what they hear.

ArabeIIaScott · 28/06/2023 09:33

On this one issue he is absolutely and consistently on the nose.

Great that Davina has said this- and it is objectively a good podcast that she recommends. If even maybe a little too ‘balanced’ for my personal taste - eg the Contrapoints section didn’t add much that wasn’t solipsistic. But minor detail I would recommend it as an entry point for anyone

I hope that Davina will make a non-euphemistic documentary with Buck Angel about the physical reality of transition for women- with the effect of male hormones, vaginal atrophy, inevitable hysterectomy to reduce cancer risk and all the other complications openly covered.

Would allow for an important discussion about how ‘appearing to be’ and ‘being’ are two very different things in this context of biological sex and that that is absolutely OK. Biological sex can’t change , only the cosmetic surface can to a very limited degree. And that it’s toxic gaslighting to tell girls and young women that they have to change themselves physically in order to fight stereotypes with any authenticity.

I think the episode with Contrapoints and Noah were absolutely essential - as was the decision to let them talk unchallenged.

Natalie did come off as solipsistic and that is just demonstrative of the ideology, so someone with any critical thinking could spot the manipulations and illogical thinking.

Noah was far more interesting, though. It was almost impossible to listen and not think about what JKR said about transitioning children.

Noah was everything she described, having severe mental health challenges unrelated to gender, having been heavily influenced by the online trans community. I can't help feeling that Noah will come to regret it all. It's all too soon and too celebrated right now for any objectivity. It was hard to listen and not to feel horribly worried for this articulate, intelligent and vulnerable person.

So I think that episode was crucial. It brought the balance while also, accidentally, reinforcing JKR's view.

MavisMcMinty · 28/06/2023 09:27

Ach, it’s all good. Every word. Damn Brendan O’Neill!

MavisMcMinty · 28/06/2023 09:25

And this!

Yes, calling a podcast ‘balanced’ makes Davina the moral equivalent of the National Front. ‘This has ripped my heart out, stomped all over it and shat on the mangled remains’, said one trans ally. Dude, calm down. A woman having a view won’t kill you.

MavisMcMinty · 28/06/2023 09:22

From the Spiked article this grabbed me:

Note the typically Orwellian abuse of language. ‘Anti-trans’, they say, about women who are actually ‘pro-women’. The rebranding of women’s rights campaigning as anti-trans agitation, and feminism as hate speech, and belief in biology as bigotry, is one of the grimmest achievements of the linguistic manipulators of the trans lobby.

So true, and I loathe agreeing with anything Spiked usually has to say. It’s hard sometimes to be a GC leftie.

How apt that the L and the W are silent in the pronunciation of Alnwick.

It’s absolutely batshit how people are “going for” someone just for commenting about a podcast being balanced. It doesn’t surprise me anymore but it’s still crazy isn’t it.

Re workout videos, I loved her pre/post natal ones, had them on DVD. So much friendlier than a lot of celebrity/fitness expert type workouts which I usually find quite intimidating (because I’m not fit!)

WarriorN · 27/06/2023 15:53

Oh they look good!

I have some new weights too. May give a whirl after some hospital stuff is out of the way this week.

Like how she's also quite daft with it too.

It was My Three 30 minutes work out, you can get it on YouTube now. Yes I recommend it.

Thank you!

I've been thinking of trying her videos, getting bored of 30 day shred. Which did you do and would you recommend it?

Dino I always wonder how these salons work out the prices. Does everyone, including all the blokes, pay women's prices?

I get my split ends done at a hairdresser and the price is the same. Barbers don't know how to do it.

It was Streetmate - Davina was absolutely brilliant in it.

I once did one of her fitness vids every day for five whole months.

I'm having a random throwback to 'Streetmate' or was is it Streetdate, in which Davina ran around pretty market towns in black pedal pushers setting up dates among charming twenty somethings.

Bloody loved her in that. All I want now is for the comment to stay up, no further action required.

There's a Northumberland pride Facebook page which is illuminating.

Gazette mentions "ongoing Northumberland pride expansion plans."

And a lecturer in Sunderland is involved @DinoSaw

Grifters gonna grift.

I always chuckle when the identarian Left and mainstream "intelligensia" tell Leave voters that they were bamboozled by lies, suckered by false promises, happy to be fooled.

And they are guilty of the same hubris, in many ways on a wider scale.

I even blame them for greater failings. They are the artists, writers, historians, politicians, economists, doctors etc who's average IQ dwarfs the mere citizen out tilling the fields and laying the bricks.

Never have so many clever people so been well and truly suckered.

@SinnerBoy Northumberland CC and Newcastle CC are both still members of stonewall diversity champions.

Which will explain the pride flags flying over various Northumberland museums and landmarks at the moment. Grace darling museum for one.

It’s India not Holly, sorry!

Just the usual spittle flecked hatred that you would expect from the fragrant India.

Thanks, I'll look up India Willoughby to see what she's saying..

They are absolutely going for her on Twitter. Willoughby is foaming at the mouth. Nadia Almada from BB now claiming Davina was cruel to Nadia and caused Nadia to attempt suicide.

I do hope she stays strong. They will not forgive her for this so she may as well come out as a TERF. If she backs down and grovels none of the menopausal women who are part of her audience will ever listen to a single thing she says again I suspect.

I liked Nadia (as a lot of people did), but I don't think it would be unfair to suggest there is a fair bit of hyperbole with that one. Not exactly the calmest, most level headed individual. I'm sure this will have hurt Davina, though.
