Team Starmer has had Danny Beales, Labour's candidate in the #UxbridgeByElection and an enthusiastic Trans Rights Activist delete Tweets like the one in which he proudly announces spending £40,000 on a trans zebra crossing.

They know this ideology's an electoral liability.

Let's hope someone has kept copies other Labour politicians ready for the General election and the rewriting of history. Jess Philips is already doing it.

Can you point us at the actual document. I'm curious by what you mean by "spousal veto". I would be very surprised if a spouse can actually block their partner from legally changing their gender and I suspect it means something like it providing grounds for divorce. In which case I think that's entirely fair is it not? If you marry someone and they declare they're a different sex that's a very fundamental thing that affects the basis of the marriage.

I think I'mnobody was quoting Philips, there.

JP is talking about the 2016 report from the Women and Equalities Committee, where they took zero oral evidence from women’s groups and totally fell for the TRA line - https://committees.parliament.uk/committee/328/women-and-equalities-committee/news/102121/women-and-equalities-committee-calls-for-equality-for-trans-people/

We do have to allow people to change their minds though- Jess Phillips unequivocally defended single sex spaces and the importance of biology in the debate the other week. The fact she wasn’t doing that in 2016 and 2020 doesn’t invalidate her taking that position now. That’s what winning an argument looks like- people change their minds.

I helped write the document that demanded changes in self ID. I literally was part of the group of MPs who wanted change. Spousal veto for example is awful

She was an active participant in the Miller calls for GRA reform. She's only recently spoken about womens single sex spaces in the recent debate.

"A woman is an adult female. There are also trans people. "

Sounds a bit vague, like he is also suggesting there is another kind of woman

Davros · 24/06/2023 23:04

He's one of my local Councillors, I have seen the rainbow crossing abomination. I hope he gets elected so we can get rid of him

JanesLittleGirl · 24/06/2023 22:49

I'm ginger. He is not representative of my recessive gene.

And I've got a (secret) crush on Paul Embery, lol.

cough Ben Cooper cough

SunnyEgg · 24/06/2023 19:45

I can’t believe the nonsense words these people come out with

Women’s right clash with TRAs wants so he’d have to be clear on what his poxy statement actually means

Imnobody4 · 24/06/2023 19:44

Maybe, but I've not seen any evidence of her thought process.

Starmer will them say that Uxbridge voted for Gender identity and self ID, he will continue this strategy into the GE.

The conservative party are terrible. The left are worse.

OldGardinia · 24/06/2023 19:22

"Trans Rights" presumably mean "no discrimination against trans people". And as MtF trans people seem to think being kept out of the women's toilets is discrimination then yeah - they conflict.

Also, nobody is born "trans". It's not an arbitrary characteristic like skin colour or (we presume) sexual orientation. No man wakes up in the morning to find God has covered his face in heavy make-up. It's a choice, it's a behaviour. Why can't I have an opinion on that?

RealityFan · 24/06/2023 19:17

He won't talk about it. And likely the MSM won't either. Uxbridge will be solely about Boris and the cost of living crisis/NHS.

Trans Qs will be batted away.

SunnyEgg · 24/06/2023 19:07

the culture wars haven’t yet come up on the campaign trail. “I haven’t been asked about trans issues on the doorstep.

This is a giveaway anyone who goes on about culture wars and trans issues not coming up is firmly Labour through and through

I don’t believe women’s rights and trans rights are mutually exclusive

What does this mean in practise? No idea he doesn’t extrapolate

Hagosaurus · 24/06/2023 19:02

FlirtsWithRhinos · 24/06/2023 18:42

There's no clash between trans rights and women's rights if your definition of "woman" includes trans identifying males.

Similarly if your definition of "female" includes trans women you can say "women are adult human females" then turn round and open every single woman's prptection up to males without a single twitch in your conscience.

But it's very handy for politicians not to bother clarifying that.

For this reason I don't assume anything about their meaning when people say woman now unless they explicitly clarify whether they mean by body sex or by gendered mentality.

RealityFan · 24/06/2023 18:40

I'm afraid this is as good as it's gonna get. Make of that what you will.

FigRollsAlly · 24/06/2023 18:14

To be fair, reading it again, he says women’s and trans rights aren’t mutually exclusive which is maybe a bit less disingenuous than saying there’s no conflict.

Well then, there is a very interesting Reverse Ferret in this Times article from last week, in which he specifically defines a woman as an adult human female:

Danny Beales: I’m fighting for Boris’s seat in Uxbridge

Still won't believe Labour, mind, until they treat Rosie Duffield properly.

He also says there isn’t a conflict between women’s rights and trans rights so how far this is a reverse ferret is unclear.

From the article, he seems very nice, very kind.

He wasted 40k on a virtue-signalling crossing that is a hazard for the partially sighted? Idiot!

Forty grand on a "trans" zebra crossing? What was the company paid to do that... and was it owned by a mate? Enquiring minds want to know.
