I’m a gender critical feminist and I’ve recently stopped caring at all what men think. I don’t even start conversations about it, I just refuse to censor myself or let myself be silenced anymore. I have had open conversations with my female friends, and we all agree, but are rarely brave enough to talk in public about our sex-based abuse, discrimination, rights, and protections. I have been reading GC and radical feminist books voraciously, and I’m still self-conscious in public and nervous about what people will say. It is exhausting being a woman. It’s a bit less exhausting when you feel like you have an understanding, strong community of like-minded women around you. It was this lurking on this page that emboldened me. So, thank you, ladies. Thank you for giving me the guts to speak up, or at least to stop shutting up.

@MishyJDI There is no mention of trans people in the original post. This appears to be a thread about women’s rights. Why have you chipped in with a post about trans people?

Lottapianos · 19/06/2023 08:22

I feel the same OP. So few of us feel that we can share our views openly in real life, particularly at work

Women need a place where we can talk openly about the struggles and abuse we face specifically because of our sex, not our gender. I’m not saying trans women face no discrimination, I’m saying biological women face discrimination based on our biology. And people who transition from an oppressor class (male) to an oppressed class (female) should not try to co-opt every conversation women have about the discrimination and abuse we face. Much of the abuse I have suffered has been directly related to pregnancy and childbirth, no trans woman would understand those particular issues. I’m thanking the women here for giving me a place I can relate to other women about the struggles of being a woman.

I agree OP and I feel the same about this board! So helpful to know how many people see this damaging ideology for what it is and support the biological reality and safety of women and girls.

Solidarity to all my fellow GC women!

@MishyJDI

"Do you not ever stop and think how exhausting it is for trans-people being constantly abused"

That's a very relevant comment Mishy. There is a thread at the moment on the UK trans subbreddit about transphobic abuse/transphobia that transpeople face and it seems, from the replies, that there isn't constant abuse and most transpeople go about there day just like everyone else.

WinterTrees · 19/06/2023 08:13

Mmm, gosh - what must it be like to be constantly abused? No woman could possibly ever imagine...

BerfyTigot · 19/06/2023 08:11

Yeah it's also exhausting having your language policed constantly

MishyJDI · 19/06/2023 08:09

Do you not ever stop and think how exhausting it is for trans-people being constantly abused and also facing misogyny?

Sometimes it is also important to put yourself in others' shoes.

Welcome too! I'm a novice in the game too. Cant believe how naive I was, and am. But massive thanks to mn.s on this thread for the education and kindness.
Keep it up!

You are welcome.
