I’m a gender critical feminist and I’ve recently stopped caring at all what men think. I don’t even start conversations about it, I just refuse to censor myself or let myself be silenced anymore. I have had open conversations with my female friends, and we all agree, but are rarely brave enough to talk in public about our sex-based abuse, discrimination, rights, and protections. I have been reading GC and radical feminist books voraciously, and I’m still self-conscious in public and nervous about what people will say. It is exhausting being a woman. It’s a bit less exhausting when you feel like you have an understanding, strong community of like-minded women around you. It was this lurking on this page that emboldened me. So, thank you, ladies. Thank you for giving me the guts to speak up, or at least to stop shutting up.

I'm also fairly recently 'out' as GC. Feels so good to stop worrying & just let others disagree. They're rarely as steadfast in their beliefs as I am when we drill down

Witherfork, I’m very careful with which friends I open up to. A few of them, all men, funnily enough, have become strident defenders of trans rights in the last few years, but recently I’ve decided I don’t really care about protecting those men’s feelings anymore. The people I’m most comfortable with are women who all had children around the same time as I did, and I think that bound us together. I’ve never had that sisterhood feeling before, it’s great! And regarding “be kind” I’m so sick of that message. It’s so tiresome, isn’t it? Be kind, smile more, think about other people’s feelings before your own, think about other people’s feelings before your safety. I’m just so over all of it.

Do you not ever stop and think how exhausting it is for trans-people being constantly abused and also facing misogyny?

Sometimes it is also important to put yourself in others' shoes.

No, I can honestly say that this has never occurred to me.

Seems like as good a time as any to mention that Mishy and his mates were instrumental in hastening my ascent to the mountain top. Thanks, Mishy, PIE, Marbles and the rest!

And welcome, OP! Gin

Oh no! A woman dared to discuss a women's rights issue without centring the TRANZ.

How very dare she. Wot a selfish cow!

I'm a woman and a Lesbian; I totally support my Sisters, our struggle...

and I don't give a damn about trans people

"trans people........also facing misogyny?"

Thank you Mishy for pointing out to us that we should also be aware of the misogyny shown to transmen because of their female sex.

ReeseWitherfork · 19/06/2023 10:21

I am both impressed and envious that you have managed to find opportunities to have open conversations with your friends. I suspect mine lay somewhere between “not caring in the slightest” and “#bekind”. A close friend shared a IG reel last week saying “I hope the transphobes have a very uncomfortable month” (in reference to pride) and it just makes me feel like a complete alien.

Oh my goodness, ladies, your support and responses have made my day!

@MishyJDI There is no mention of trans people in the original post. This appears to be a thread about women’s rights. Why have you chipped in with a post about trans people?

Mishy is helpfully providing an object lesson in why women need so much energy and focus in trying to focus on, talk about, and defend our rights.

There are people out there who get VERY CROSS when women centre women.

ArabeIIaScott · 19/06/2023 10:01

Although OP, don't you ever spare a thought for the Burmese people in Myanmar? Imagine how they feel in exile, torn from their family and friends.

The next time you feel you want to bang on about women's rights maybe stop and think for a minute. Think of the Burmese people.

If I hadn’t already peaked Mishy would peak me………….

I think certain posters on this board have without a doubt solidified the thoughts of many a woman posting and lurking!

NotBadConsidering · 19/06/2023 09:59

I have found and still find it hugely liberating. It helps that the people who might challenge any views I express can’t argue their point, because it’s absolute nonsense. But I stopped caring about being called “transphobic” when I realised it meant I don’t want kids to be sterilised/mutilated, and I’m 100% confident I’m on the right side of history with that. Not even resident ploppers like Mishy believe that, which is why they avoid threads about kids getting their breasts cut off and such, they know it’s indefensible.

@h1d1ng1npla1ns1ght

You're obviously doing something right, you've attracted a dissenting voice! 😁

Just keep on doing what you are doing! Women can talk about women and what it means to be a woman without having to centre anyone else!

Regardless of what some people seem to think it's not a woman's job to think about the men!

And last time I checked we are still able to discuss one thing without having to be forced to consider other people first.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 19/06/2023 09:31

Hi there, welcome. As this thread shows, men really don't like not being centred in all things always.

DialSquare · 19/06/2023 09:31

I imagine Mishy was a great help in emboldening the OP during her lurking!

IcakethereforeIam · 19/06/2023 09:28

Perhaps @MishyJDI could start their own thread, could be interesting.

Congrats OP.

FrancescaContini · 19/06/2023 09:16

Solidarity, OP. It’s good to find like-minded women to open up to/with.
