Shall we appreciate the Völkische Beobachter and the Stürmer next? The naivety of some MNers never fails to astound me.

Not everything you disagree with has to (or should....) be compared to a National Socialist equivalent.

The DM isn't my cup of tea. But it isn't comparable to National Socialist publications...

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 14/06/2023 12:19

No news source should have a political bias, let alone such an unashamedly obvious one.

It's impossible for them not to. They have to decide what to prioritise to report on.

It's probably better that they are open about their political agenda so you can read it knowingly in that light, rather than be fooled into thinking they're reporting perfectly balanced, objective, unbiased truth...which no human could ever do.

oh you sweet summer child

Yeah, that made me laugh, as well.

MichelleScarn · 14/06/2023 12:19

Wrong think obviously @MrsDanversGlidesAgain? They must now undergo a public full disadulation.

longwayoff · 14/06/2023 12:18

D Mail generally considered more emetic than erotic Molluscs. Works for many.

RavingStone · 14/06/2023 12:17

I love the idea that when our more righteous and saintly publications produce headlines such as "woman in court for flashing and stealing underwear" or "female athlete on attempted murder charge" they're not after the clicks.

CherryPosset · 14/06/2023 12:16

I also would not look down on someone who read it.
This isn't helpful.
What I would hope is that eventually people might come to be more discerning about what they allow into their skulls.

No news source should have a political bias, let alone such an unashamedly obvious one.
News ought to be impartial and unbiased essentially, as we require that to know we are not being cajoled into beliefs and opinions that are not our own.

I also would never take any news outlet seriously that described child abusers as 'beasts', women as 'teases' and people from other cultures as 'bizarre'.

Similarly I do not respect left leaning tabloids. Most of these publications make it their sole aim to create anger, hatred and fear, rather that empowering us with information. Even the Guardian has become a tabloid in my eyes. They are all rancid at this point.

If something is trying to alter or form your opinion, it isn't your friend.

Rehabilitated from what?

Wrong think and wrong read 🤣🤣

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 14/06/2023 12:14

Rehabilitated from what?

Its dank, nasty history, its sexism and misogyny, xenophobia, racism, you name it.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 14/06/2023 12:16

I’m genuinely enjoying quite how irrational the subject of a mainstream national newspaper makes some people

isn’t it funny what pushes people’s buttons (not you seasonofthewitch )

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 14/06/2023 12:14

tattygrl · 14/06/2023 12:11

Just because the DM happens to align with some of ones' interests and beliefs for once, doesn't warrant it being granted "rehabilitated" status. A stopped clock is right twice a day. This is thoroughly depressing.

Rehabilitated from what?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 14/06/2023 12:13

Well, stap my vitals. Apparently I'm a malleable, working class, uneducated, angry proletariat with an axe to grind. Not to mention a man.

I think it's safe to say that @CherryPosset doesn't read the Mail and heartily despises anyone who does. I'm not sure that level of vitriol was quite called for, but I hope it made her feel better.

MichelleScarn · 14/06/2023 12:12

I think @CherryPosset is another (possibly Guardian?!) reader who has come along to re-educate the icky, silly proles from thinking how and reading what they choose, and to let then know that the only way to be fabulously inclusive is to think and do EXACTLY what the 'correct, good' people tell them to?

55balloons · 14/06/2023 12:12

Seasonofthewitch83 · 14/06/2023 12:06

Maybe its because a stranger is asking about if I masturbate on Mumsnet? That is what is odd here.

You did refer to the DM as a "wank rag".. But whatever you do in your own time is your own business.. Whatever turns you on. No judgement here 👍

The stupid proles are icky? The peasants are revolting?

Yes, the lack of respect this person shows for their fellow citizens is actually quite breathtaking

Lovey, you brought up the subject of masturbation

I am merely seeking clarification

Haha. Bernard you are on 🔥🔥🔥🔥

What astounds me is your failure to realise that this is what happens when the publications that are supposed to support women stop doing it. The news still has to come out, but this time you're not going to like the messenger.

Didn't you read Harry Potter? When the Daily Prophet refused to publish the truth about Voldemort returning, it had to come via the Quibbler. Nobody liked it then either, but what choice was there?

At any rate, much as I disagree with the Mail's political agenda overall, we should all be reading a wide range of sources, critically, to inform ourselves best. Again, look at Harry Potter. Hermione continued to subscribe to the Prophet, not because she liked it but because she knew it was important to know what it was saying.

Your knee jerk, Godwin's law reaction might be praised within student politics (although I think they're smarter than that now) but in the grown up world, it's time to think.

Seasonofthewitch83 · 14/06/2023 12:03

No, they have decided people love the trans debate as it gets clicks. This isnt about women at all.

Well isn't that what it's all about...!!!!
The power & influence of the media!
This is exactly what we need to highlight the protection of women's rights & safeguarding children from mutilation & castration.

Are you another one who wouldn't be caught dead reading it but know all about who does, @CherryPosset ?

ArabeIIaScott · 14/06/2023 12:08

CherryPosset · 14/06/2023 12:06

Can we also appreciate them when they show images of celebrities SHOWCASING or EXHIBITING their breasts when they're just out shopping or lying on a beach?

Let's be honest though, their intended audience is the uneducated, angry proletariat with an axe to grind.

Every publication has an intended consumer, and the DM's is unashamedly the average working man, generally working class with traditional values, a fear of progressive/diverse policies, and who is generally easily convinced that all UK problems involve immigration.
I see their intended consumer as malleable, easy to galvanise via contextless headline shockers, designed to achieve an angry/emotional response as opposed to a measured one.

The psychology is interesting if you have studied it. It isn't wholesome in the sense that it wants your kids to have an education, only that you will remain divided from the rest of the proletariat (especially those who do not conform to a very standardised, white, male centric etc) which education might actually reveal as ...problematic.

Worst of all - nationalism; unashamed and toxic. Any kind of nationalism multiplies in times of confusion and a reduction in social services (which, like poverty, is 'by design' and fully supported by the Murdoch class). The less educated one is, the more likely one can be nose-led towards nationalism, sexism and knee jerk judgement.

It's all so terribly icky, but that's just my opinion.

The stupid proles are icky? The peasants are revolting?

Awaiting @BernardBlacksMolluscs to be told they are 'obsessed, OBSESSED! I tells you about other people genitals' is that not the usual go to to shut things down?

Seem to recall I was accused of that on the M&S Pride thread when I said I didn't care what people did.
