No, they have decided people love the trans debate as it gets clicks. This isnt about women at all.

That. The DM also likes to stir up hate and intolerance. And sadly the GC have some uncomfortable bedfellows in this debate, who couldn't give a damn about women, but enjoy a good jeer at anyone different and hate 'Applebee's.

I for one, am uncomfortable at the idea of sharing views with such people. The DM isn't doing this out of the goodness of its heart. It knows it's regular readership, that's all.

I might get most of my news from the Guardian, but if the Brexit vote taught me anything, it was that I'd occupied a news bubble and not recognised how people.outside my bubble were thinking. So I also take a look at the Mail and the Telegraph at least once or twice a week. So I know of what I'm talking, even if I dislike them.

When the DM stop posting long-distance-lens swimwear creep shots of female celebrities at the beach with captions like "Billie Piper shows off her curves in revealing two piece while on sexy jaunt with rumoured lover"...

...then you might have a hope in hell of convincing me DM is a beacon of feminism

It's not the thread for you if you object to women being objectified by them.
Apparently

Ohalpro · 14/06/2023 13:03

Agree.

And it worries me that people want to celebrate the fact that a nuanced, complex issue like this is being simplified into the daily Mail’s outrage fuelled form of ‘journalism’

it makes me suspect that the posters who are doing that don’t really care about having difficult, grown up conversations about the things that matter, but just want to feel like their own unchallenged opinions are vindicated.

@Ohalpro isn't that exactly what the general public need?! To have what's be done to children & women broken down with examples given.

Awareness needs to be completely raised to safeguard children, women's rights & spaces. The Mail are doing an excellent job. Every citizen should be aware of how the GRA will affect them & their children personally.

I put 'Daily Mail' in the .gif drawer and this came up. I think it speaks for all of us.

Funny, that, because I'd say the same about the people ignoring what the DM has to say because it's in a paper they detest.

Plunkplink · 14/06/2023 13:05

Keeping men out of women’s spaces and refuges and prisons and shortlists isn’t complex. Safe guarding children and vulnerable boys, girls women and men isn’t nuanced.

I've appreciated the Daily Mail ever since they named the murderers of Stephen Lawrence and campaigned for them to be brought to trial.
It's a campaigning newspaper. I don't agree with most of the positions it takes . However, on the issue of the effects of trans activism on women and children, it's been outstanding.

Agree with this. Their Stephen Lawrence headline was astonishing at the time.
Also agree with pps saying they read a range of things, so do I. Because I am capable of critical thought . I follow all sorts of people on Twitter for the same reason.

It's hardly a trailblazing bastion of speaking truth to power, is it. It's a massively financially successful business operation, nothing more

You'd be daft to think that the government of the day, whoever it is, doesn't pay attention to what occupies the tabloids. They have a readership of millions, and if they correctly identify what is a concern to their readers then government takes notice. Saying It's a massively financially successful business operation, nothing more is like saying Tesco's nothing more than a massively successful finanicial operation. Both have very successfully identified and appeal to their market and as a result wield power.

Can you not understand that we are talking about ONE ISSUE?

Please do delete. We don't need your narrow minded inability to see what is in front of your face because of long held grudges.

Then this is not the thread for you.

😂
Someone on a thread on the feminism board, saying that they don't agree with women being objectified, being told this isn't the thread place for them.
Says it all.
It's not about women on here. Hasn't been for a while now.

Tigofigo · 14/06/2023 12:56

The Daily Mail doesn't give a shit about these issues.

They just want clicks and to appeal to their base.

If it was politically and financially more advantageous to have another view, they would, in a minute.

The Daily Mail isn't a borg. It's a media publication made up of many different human beings, male or female, who will have their own personal views which inevitably (and no matter how much they try to be impartial) will colour their views.

It is disingenuous to say that not a single person writing these articles doesn't see an issue and is therefore reporting on it, and it's just the influence of some crazy baying mob that they're capitulating to.

A newspaper who can’t help itself and has to provide the price of the parents’ house for the two young students murdered yesterday. The rehabilitation of the DM, really?!

Jeeze no. They actually did that? FFS.

And why we had Brexit.

The sneering from the left is just pushing voters away especially those who consider themselves centre with left leanings, who will just slightly move to lean the other way.

Absolutely.

I can assure you I am not right wing in the slightest. I believe that everyone has the right to live their lives with decent housing, have a good education for their children, a health care system that works and to have freedom and the right to express their opinions.

What’s happening now is a shutting down of any opinion that doesn’t fit with the left or middle left ideology. Anyone liberal or right leaning is indefinitely a Nazi if they dare to voice their concerns on hot button issues. Honestly I can’t tell you how harmful that is long term. You e only got to lock at how well censorship works in changing behaviours. People are being censored. Their opinions are being shut down and their thoughts are being policed. If you were actively trying to engineer a hard right wing swing this is how you would do it.

@PriOn1 😂😂😂 I think this has to be a mumsnet classic "waking over the Daily Mail".. It stirs up feelings & emotions that's for sure.

OP posts:
BodgerLovesMashedPotato · 14/06/2023 12:56

Most of these publications make it their sole aim to create anger, hatred and fear, rather that empowering us with information
Think there's something in that.
Not so much about news telling anymore, and more opinion pieces or biases to try and influence opinions and create division.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 14/06/2023 12:56

They are extremely skilled at rousing emotions & they have the correct level of sensationalism.
However this is exactly what's needed to really hit home that children are being mutilated & castrated with transgender surgeries.
And women's spades are being invaded by men

And in the articles I've read they really do their research, as well, because they know that any inaccuracies will be jumped on.

Although for as long as the DM continue to describe women doing normal things, (eg, wearing a skirt = 'flaunting her shapely pins',) it's a no from me, sorry.

Then this is not the thread for you.

The seagull posters have arrived: they fly in, squawk loudly, crap all over the thread and generally make a nuisance of themselves.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 14/06/2023 12:54

I stopped reading the DM years ago when someone reporting on Stephen Gately's death pondered what was going on when he, his boyfriend and another friend went back to their home after being out on the town. It was some nasty, homophobic insinuations.

I am, however, quite a bit older now. So I avoid the Femail bits of trash, and read articles that interest me with a critical eye. I'm able to do this with multiple different media publications, but OP is right, the DM is thus far the only mainstream media that is seemingly willing to post what are considered 'controversial' articles.
