Pretty much f*cking any of them? If I'm being asked to name a newspaper more feminist than the daily mail... I mean aside from the sun, there are many contenders for that accolade from me. Not hard.

Not just more feminist @tattygrl what newspaper is covering all the issues in regards to the gender indoctrination in schools, mutilisation of children, invasion of womens rights, sports & spaces.??
Which media outlet?

"The Daily Mail doesn't hold back". Once again, seriously, you're granting them this inspiring tenacity so, so very easily. They DO hold back. They hold back on issues they don't think will get them views from their readership. They go hard on the issues they know will go down well with right wing twerps, and, on this ONE occasion, GC feminists. It didn't take bloody much, did it, for feminists to forget upskirting, dehumanising photos and comments on womens' bodies and columns from bigots, not to mention the literal Nazi sympathising history. Please stop viewing them as brave, pioneering "truth tellers". They HAPPEN to align with you on this one aspect of gender issues. That's it. Jfc I can't do this thread any more. Praise away, fairweather feminists.

IcakethereforeIam · 14/06/2023 13:39

Lovely, name one then, please.

@tattygrl yes, you were asked. So, what's your answer, please?

And that's the type of media we need to highlight what this means for women. The Mail don't hold back.

Yup.

Think of it this way.

You're a vegan, you and everyone knows that means no meat products in anything you consume.
Now, suddenly there are trans vegans, they like to eat meat every day but still call themselves vegan.
You begin to object but keep getting shut down.
Every restaurant you go to now serves trans-vegan food, meaning there is meat in every dish.
You're confused because obviously that no longer means it's vegan. It seems like everyone has gone mad and words don't mean the same thing as they used to.
You lose your job for speaking up for vegans, you're banned from groups and online spaces for saying being vegan means you don't eat animal products.
You're called a Nazi for wanting to set up your own vegan restaurant which obviously wouldn't include animal products.
Your business is picketed and no media will print anything about it apart from a paper you've historically disliked like the DM.

Do you still think you'd hold all the same lines, or realise that getting the word out is more important?

Yes, I'd hold the same lines. I would still hold that I would never, ever want to see a feminist appreciation thread about the Daily Mail, regardless of what issue, personally important to me, they decided to champion. They're a destructive presence in our society, in my opinion, with a dark, sickening history. One hot-button issue is not enough to warrant applause from feminists, or anyone.

Cynthia12 · 14/06/2023 13:35

In today's paper there is also a bit of a rant against 'Smart Meters'
Thoughtful comments on the recent prosecution of the mother who had the late abortion.
It highlights the problems with the Pensions Authority and with the Compensation procedures for cancelled flights.
A mix of the serious and philosophical and the practical delays we all face.
Oh! and details on 4 Race Meetings.

It's not that deeply unfeminist when they are the ONLY paper that is loudly talking about the ongoing erosion of womens rights, are they?

Which paper do you imagine is more feminist, right now?

Am I really being asked, in this year of our Lord 2023, if I can think of any publication more feminist than the daily mail? I feel lost for words 😂If only the DM knew all along that all they had to do to deflect feminist criticism was be anti-trans!

Tropicaldi · 14/06/2023 13:33

It’s obvious to most people that The Guardian are treacherous - they don’t have women’s backs at all around this issue. More fool us for believing in them.

The Mail, on the other hand has come up smelling of roses. More fool us for doubting them.

Riapia · 14/06/2023 13:32

DM the most hated news source on MN.
Yet still the most quoted for articles in support of women.

The waters are getting muddied here because it's turned into a debate about whether it's possible to appreciate one aspect of a publication when the other aspects of it are questionable, to say the least. That wasn't the question in the OP. The OP was asking whether to have an appreciation thread for this paper on the feminist board. That's what I believe is wrong, because this is a deeply unfeminist publication.

For another example, I'm vegan (yes, haha, I've announced it unprovoked). I'm very passionate about veganism and applaud any movement to see it moved more mainstream and into the public eye. However, I would NEVER suggest an appreciation thread for the DM if it started posting pro-veganism articles, because the paper as a whole doesn't deserve praise on ethical grounds. It's too nasty overall.

Think the poster upthread (bernard, I think,)
had it pretty much spot on with the gender role train of thought.
It's not coming from a caring about women angle.

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/06/2023 13:27

I'll stick to appreciating the articles while not giving them any cookies.

And in the articles I've read they really do their research, as well, because they know that any inaccuracies will be jumped on.

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain yes, I’ve read a few articles where I know more about the story, and the DM did a good job in reporting a complex subject to the general public, to the point I use one of their articles in a training session I run.

it doesn’t mean I approve of the side bar of shame, their celebrity reporting or their nationalist and frankly xenophobic tone in many articles. But I take the view that if I want to consider myself well informed, then I need to read a wide variety of publications. Surely anyone who “disapproves” of the DM would be equally aware of the history and biases of all mainstream newspapers and broadcasters, and thus takes a critical approach to any reporting they read/see? .

Who reads the papers? - Yes, Prime Minister - BBC comedy

In this timeless clip, Prime Minister, Jim Hacker explains to Sir Humphrey and Bernard the importance of the papers and who reads which one. Hilarious BBC Br...

@tattygrl can you name another media publication as invested & committed as the Daily Mail in highlighting the damage done to children due to sterilisation & the invasion of womens rights, spaces & sports?? Name one.
This needs to be mainstream knowledge so people can educate themselves about how it may affect them personally & their children.

To be fair, though, Applebees ARE c*s.

AutumnCrow · 14/06/2023 13:20

I'm a Marxist, as it turns out. It's a terrible failing of the left that the left-wing media - other than the Morning Star - have ceased to regard and report on women and girls in the UK and North America as a sex-class.

LadyKenya · 14/06/2023 13:19

JaneyGee · 14/06/2023 13:11

The sneering, bullying, Guardian-reading left hate the Daily Mail. For that reason alone I buy it every day. The left are doing all they can to destroy my identity. They've made the very idea of Englishness (and Britishness) toxic. The young know nothing about their own literature and culture. They don't even identify with it, let alone take any pride in it. We're raising a generation that pretty much hates its own country. But what do you expect? The long march through the institutions is complete. The left dominate publishing, the universities, and the arts. They run the BBC. They've even begun editing books and 'de-colonising' the libraries (god, it's straight out of Orwell's 1984). When Labour wins the next election, they'll have control of everything.

I don't like the Daily Mail, but anything that hurts or upsets the left makes me happy. I'm ordinary working-class, and centrist in my politics, but the left aren't on my side any more. On the contrary, they hate me.

What nonsense is this? Honestly I don't know what you were being taught at school, regarding literature, and culture. Stop with the dramatics.
