Can anyone please shed light on this?! The last time I checked only women can get periods & it's been that way since time began! Am I seriously missing something?

I am so pissed off with this shit. The other day I saw something about a pregnant man. No this needs to end.

Moonandstarz · 09/06/2023 17:02

@aloris I think you should email Green Periods & educate them!

@aloris very well said

Exactly, my mother had a hysterectomy at age 50 after menopause but she's still a woman, an amazing, strong woman who is completely GC.

It's nonsensical language, woman only have a menstrual cycle. When menopause hits & it hits every woman periods stop but we are still women!

I think it's interesting when the word "menstruator" is justified by the claim that women past menopause do not menstruate. I think this illustrates one of the creepy purposes of using dehumanising terms such as "menstruator", which is to separate women into different groups and pretend like those groups have nothing in common with each other. It's basically a "divide and conquer" strategy, splitting women up into different groups and placing them in different silos, socially, politically, linguistically. And yet, women past menopause are the same group as women who menstruate, just older!!!!!! You can't be in menopause unless you are female.

The dehumanisation is not only in the redefining of the words 'girl' and 'woman' and 'female' and their replacement with "menstruator" "cervix-haver" and "pregnant person." It's also in the pretense that the only thing that's important about you is today's biological function, and the pretense that you can be categorized solely on the basis of this particular function, as if all the other aspects of being female are something totally unconnected, as if we are all little lego toys, with parts that can be disconnected in space and time.

But in the real world, the baby born with a uterus is the same person as the adolescent girl a few years later who gets her first period, who is the same person as the young woman a few years later who gives birth, who is the same person as the woman 20 years later who undergoes menopause, who is the same person as the woman 10 years after that who gets uterine cancer, who is the same person as the woman who gets a hysterectomy for that uterine cancer. We're not just female in the one moment where a man looks at us and says, "menstruator." We're female for the entirety of our lives!

Moonandstarz · 09/06/2023 16:34

Exactly, I'm peri menopause, my periods are going to stop in a couple of years but I'm still a woman after menopause & my periods stop!

See now, I'm a woman who doesnt menstruate (PCOS and very early menopause as a result) and I actually like the idea of separating having periods from my identity as a woman. I AM a woman, but I don't menstruate and I like that some language exists that means period information can be directed to people without making me feel like im less of a woman because I don't menstruate. I don't think anyone is suggesting you should refer to WOMEN as menstruators, the suggestion is to refer to people who menstruate as menstruators and I don't think I mind that.

Men accessing womens spaces and sports can get in the bloody sea though, I just dont think this is the same.

But being a woman is not an identity. If you're a woman it's because you are one, regardless of your current reproductive capacity.

It says inclusive of trans men - in other words, women.

FIFY

I'm pretty sure that all this nonsense is a fetish. They must surely be aware that men do not have periods . I assume they mean trans men who have women's bodies. Anyone having green periods should be swabbed for a very nasty infection.

The tweet literally says trans men. Not trans women.

cuckyplunt · 09/06/2023 15:40

It’s an interesting marketing strategy, to piss your core consumers off quite this much. 99.99% of “menstruators” are women. To insult them in order to pander to the 0.01% of women who identify as men seems a bit counterproductive.
and that person in the bath is one sick bastard..

Respect my pronouns while I call you a chest feeder and birthing human

See again with this: they're not calling YOU a chest feeder or birthing human - they're suggesting that this language should exist for people who would like to use it. There are really legitimate concerns about the trans movement but you completely neutralize those concerns with this kind of thing. For example, my friend referred to herself as 'the birthing person' when in hosptial having her daughter, because her partner was also a woman and a mother. I'm glad this language existed for her and the midwives were aware of it.

"Not only have our cramps reduced with reusables, but we also haven’t spent a penny or sent a single product to the landfill in 10 years!"

From their website.
Incredible claim there that reusables help with cramps.

I think they must have been using the tampons very wrongly.

There’s no menstruation without men???? What????

Sick of this all now.

DustyLee123 · 09/06/2023 14:42

If a man had to put up with the trials and tribulations of peri menopausal periods, they’d soon decide they didn’t want them !

Treaclemine · 09/06/2023 14:20

There is a very dark part of my mind which pops out its dark thoughts occasionally, and it is now jumping up and down saying that if the men want periods we can arrange for them experience bleeding down there, only on one occasion though. But they want to avoid that, don't they?
Also, there is a word in use for sperm ejacuators - alliterates with woman.
And seeing "men" in menstruation is faulty etymology, since it refers to the moon, but perhaps they want to claim lunacy.

Well said @Gettingbysomehow Green periods would absolutely indicate a nasty, toxic infection & would require a few trips to the gynaecologist & antibiotics to sort out.

Have you got nothing else to direct your anger to. There’s far bigger problems in the world. Who cares what word is used

Words are important. Obvious to anyone, I'd have thought. If they are not important, why are trans women fussed about what anyone calls them? Why can we not call them men?

do nhs records get changed when someone 'transitions'

just wondering if they will now have to invite everyone over a certain age for smear tests as some of the men won't be biological men. Does everyone now get invited for prostate exams?

anyone know?

Short answer: Yes, the marker on GP records is changed on patient request.

Long answer: When the new NHS digital systems were set up there was very extensive discussion about how to record sex and gender in clear and unambiguous ways that met both medical needs and patient preferences. They came up with a 2-box system to record both sex and gender, with guidance that the former was essential and the second optional.

Various people have done subject access requests on their own records and found the sex field is blank, and the gender one has been filled in without them being asked.

As a woman, I can multi-task what I’m angry about. We all can.

Thought this might be a parody until I saw the “blood all over the bath photo”. Not a single woman ever, ever does that while she’s got her period. Not a single one. Ever. 🤬

Green Periods wouldn't have changed the language they use to talk about periods or publicly announce it on social media if no-one cared.

Language creates meaning, so obviously it matters. If no-one cares. then why not leave 'woman' to mean what it always meant until a few short years ago?

To suggest that the actual words we use is irrelevant to our lives is hugely disingenuous, as it matters massively to people on both sides of the gender ideology divide.
