Can anyone please shed light on this?! The last time I checked only women can get periods & it's been that way since time began! Am I seriously missing something?

That is an excellent point @RecycleMePlease I'm going to try to remember that.

RecycleMePlease · 11/06/2023 08:56

In every other situation we've been moving away from this style of language because it is dehumanising (eg. Institute for the blind -> Institute for blind people, the disabled -> people with disabilities).

Why do women get to be called Menstruators instead of women who menstruate? I find it offensive, reducing me to a function of my body, rather than acknowledging that I am a woman, who's body currently does this.

Green periods?

Everyone knows periods are blue.

Clever! 😀

toomanytrees · 10/06/2023 23:08

"Identify as" is not the same as "is". Someone who "identifies as" probably "isn't'.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 10/06/2023 22:57

That quote about him being more of a woman because he's an intentional woman rather than an incidental one is really insulting. And deluded. For some reason it reminds me of when the six-year-old next door told me, "My garden is bigger than yours". Um you want it to be but you can see that it isn't, and someone stating that they're more woman than an actual woman doesn't make it true, it just makes them deluded.

Dumbo12 · 10/06/2023 22:49

@Moonandstarz
Indeed

Moonandstarz · 10/06/2023 22:46

@Dumbo12 who will give birth to babies? Breastfeed? Buy menstruation products?!!

@Dumbo12 they want women to be extinct species like Dodo's...

But who will do the washing up, laundry and grocery shopping?

So migendering trans people is genocide, but eradicating women from discussion about menstruation and period products is fine and dandy. How bizarre

SockGoddess · 10/06/2023 22:13

there is no MENstruation without men, women, or whatever your choice of identity is

Um what? What kind of numpty wrote that??? EVEN if you have been persuaded by genderwoo that men menstruate, there is still menstruation without men! Like when a woman menstruates? FFS.

That sentence comes across as someone who has been told they always have to be INCLUSIVE, all the time, about everything. Never mind if it's egregious nonsense. INCLUSIVE!

Have you got nothing else to direct your anger to. There’s far bigger problems in the world. Who cares what word is used

So we're good to use Woman then. Glad you are in agreement there.

When you have bearded, fully penised trans women (men) suing a business because they told them they were not allowed to go to the naked women spa (their words) and the business loses - there is legitimately no greater threat to women at the moment than the trans community. We are being erased, degraded, assaulted, insulted and told that we don't matter.

Absolutely right. Words are important because they have meaning and can lead to actions. When a group is banned from using the words that describe itself, it is stripped of its ability to function as a group. It loses that group’s rights.

Genderism is blatantly a male supremacist movement.

forgotmyusername1 · 10/06/2023 21:41

There is no menstruation without men

Yes there bloody well is... literally

Moonandstarz · 10/06/2023 21:39

Well they are standing by their men so! What an absolute bizarre, batshit tweet!

The Green Periods Twitter thread linked to in the OP's first post is still up, including the nonsensical "Let’s be inclusive of all our menstruators. We love everyone who is reading this, there is no MENstruation without men, women, or whatever your choice of identity is."

Whether they identify as a woman or not is irrelevant
If they have periods they are biologically women
Men don't have wombs therefore cannot have periods, period. They may have short hair, wear dungarees and call themselves men but biology doesn't lie. Only women bleed

The tweet is still there @Moonandstarz ? Going via the link you put in your OP.

@forgotmyusername1 - but it isn't claiming men have periods. It's just simply using the term "people who menstruate" which is inclusive of people who don't identify as women such as non-binary people or transmen.

I just don't see the issue here with being more inclusive rather than less.

Moonandstarz · 10/06/2023 21:14

@forgotmyusername1 exactly & they have deleted their tweet rather than standing by it. That in itself is a positive. Innocent & Oxfam have also deleted their horrible controversial tweets. The tide is turning!

People who don't identify as women have periods, I personally don't have any issue using more inclusive language.

Trying to reframe this as a statement about men or transwomen menstruating is a tad disengenous.

Tweet's gone down I think - someone finally read the room.

The tweet in the OP is still up. But it's been archived anyway - the internet never forgets...

I thought that emoji was "man who just had a massive dinner and is very content".

Or
”man who is wondering if his penis is still there under the pregnant belly. Oh, what a shame, no it isn’t, cos you never had one in the first place ducky.”

Moonandstarz · 10/06/2023 11:28

@Barbie222 so that's Oxfam, Innocent Drinks & Smoothies & Green Periods who have deleted tweets in the past few days! Fantastic!
The pressure needs to be kept on all these womanphobic companies to stop posting hateful posts eradicating women, obviously their bottom line is being hit by the sweeping boycott culture that's gaining pace in the UK following on from the USA.

Female people exist. That is people with bodies organised around the production of large, immobile gametes, whether or not they actually produce said gametes. Such people form a coherent group with the shared characteristic of being female. We used to call this group of people women (and girls for youngsters). To tell this group of people they can no longer call themselves women is to deny women the language we need to talk about ourselves as a group, our shared experiences and shared discriminations. It is to deny us the language that links us to all other women throughout the world, throughout history and throughout our lifetimes.

It is misogynistic to the core.

God yes.
