Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

And me.

I can’t find it on their website either. It’s obviously dawned on them that this is a monumental cock up.

I think that's being optimistic. Bet you they come back with, "We were right, but you nasty bigots made us take it down", as modelled by the British Library (trans people are fish!) and many others.

Signalbox · 06/06/2023 13:11

Hoardasurass · 06/06/2023 12:58

They've taken the video down from their YouTube channel.
Still no apology or explanation though

The sad thing is that a lot of LGB individuals worldwide are discriminated against. However as usual the message is poisoned and heavy handed.

Bumping this.

Also about to set up direct debits for this and LGB Alliance.

Thanks - have just made a donation

GailBlancheViola · 06/06/2023 13:07

Oxfam, the charity that was put under Statutory Supervision by the Charity Regulator in the UK and only released from that in 2021. Clearly not learnt much.

Women and girls seem to only be required to fulfil two functions as far and Oxfam are concerned - (1) do all the grunt work, the stuff that never wins awards or praise, like manning their shops and (2) provide 'extra' services to men (I'll leave it to your imagination what the 'extra' services are).

Is that this one? Just want to check that I'm donating to the right one, not a bunch of dick panderers.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, Frances Weetman uploaded a copy to twitter.

May I suggest the Women's Resource Centre?

They recently put out a statement explaining their belief in single sex services and work and have seen income drop.

I have just deleted my direct debit. I’ve been sending these misogynists £20 a month for years. It’s over. I’m now working out who to switch my donation to.

Well having read the vitriol in this thread and on twitter, have to hand it to Oxfam for calling out the anti LGBT hate and standing strong. Ethics over profits. Rare in this say and age. I'll certainly be shopping more there given their inclusion, and I dont feel as a woman excluded. Far from it.

Oh.... and even Oxfam acknowledged that the concerns were valid. They have taken it down.

Blimey mishy, you really do keep taking every opportunity to shame women who disagree with you don't you?

nettie434 · 06/06/2023 12:30

Maerchentante · 06/06/2023 10:34

My first thought was that the woman with the "Terf" sticker looks like a caricature of JKR.

I have to move soon and will have a good clear out, Oxfam will not get a single item. Lots of it will go to a local Hospice charity that cared for two friends last year or a charity that runs the local food bank and homelessness outreach.

It's quite simple, if they label me as a "Terf" they can do without my donations or purchases.

I thought the image was meant to be JKR too, and that all the images were stereotypical and racist.

I'm one of the people that has boycotted Oxfam since the Haiti revelations. As I bore on about often, I find that organisations which are very voluble about transphobia are often guilty of not protecting other protected characteristics at all.

If you think that Oxfam has shown 'ethics' here, I think that says all that anyone needs to know about you.

And if you think that supporting this ad is going to benefit LGBT people, then you probably should stop trying to speak for them. Because I expect that you are speaking for a small minority who also could not recognise ethics, even if those ethics came delivered in 10 ft high words that were unmissable.

@MissLucyEyelesbarrow

Yes I agree. At least Amnesty was partly about human rights and protecting people from political violence.

Oxfam are supposed to feed needy kids not tell me off for being gender critical!

Utter wankers.

I bet the people at the top of these orgs have inadvertently hired a lot of egotistical and idealistic grads who have taken them on entirely the wrong journey... writing 'right on' policies and dabbling in tangental issues that suit their own opinions.

I think that's letting senior management off too lightly. They knew exactly what they were doing, IMO. It was a conscious pivot, in order to benefit from the gravy train for 'progressive' causes - NGOs, UN, Gates Foundation, Soros etc (NB I do not believe conspiracy theories about Soros - that is all anti-semitic rubbish - I just think his foundation - like many - promotes gender ideology at the expense of women).

No doubt, Oxfam told itself it was for the greater good: women were acceptable collateral damage, in order to secure more funding, which would ultimately benefit everyone. But you cannot embrace misogynistic values without becoming misogynistic.

Yeah. There's so much stupid.

Bornin1989 · 06/06/2023 12:12

I've e-mailed my complaint. I volunteered in a relatively senior position for Oxfam at festivals for many years and was planning to do so in a few years when my daughter was older and could accompany me. No more.

Naomi Cunningham, a discrimination and employment law barrister, says the document may breach the Equality Actt_, which bans harassment in the workplace on the basis of sex.

Just putting it out there that I'd donate to any crowdfund for shop volunteers to take legal action against the hostile and toxic environment Oxfam has created for women.

Yes, count me in too!

Oxfam's misogyny has been around for years. I'd missed the example in this tweet in Maya's thread though: https://archive.ph/8tr75

FFS.

But, yes, we're all paranoid T**Fs, when we say women are being erased.
