Anyone seen the tweet by Maya tonight about this little animation by Oxfam? Here’s the link:

as I said, fuck Oxfam.

Also, I totally support gay and lesbians and have a lot of empathy for trans - but I don't support misogyny, science denial and totalitarian mind control

What strikes me about all of this is how the culture at Oxfam will make it so easy for Haiti to happen again.

Dehumanise your victims (women and girls), dismiss their needs and vulnerabilities, prioritise the feelings of men and silence or dismiss the voices of the people who are most likely to whistle-blow or call out abusive behaviour (again women).

Should we allow our kids/nephews/nieces to watch Peppa Pig after the creator posted a pride-themed Instagram post?

Huge numbers of orgs have now shown some form of LGBT support in one way or another. I am curious just how boycotters manage to keep track of them all and boycott them all.

It's a simple "happy pride month" message on Twitter and it is not even remotely comparable to the Oxfam debacle. To suggest as much is quite wrong. But is their Insta using Nazi-era imagery to depict "TERFs"? Have they trampled all over the memory of the dead by removing what absolutely looked like JKR's poppy? Have they shown Peppa and / or friends with mastectomy scars? Have they accused parents of online and offline hate?

'we'?

Who is we?

Bubblyb00b · 06/06/2023 22:46

@MerlinsLostMarbles literally no one drinks Budweiser in the UK, its fucking horrible. No idea what "Bud Light" is, and who gives a f anyway?

I'm still boycotting Nestle.

Baby Milk actions "Nestle kills babies" a slogan you can't ever forget

About 20 years into Nestle boycott

Never had Macdonald's, never bought Primark. In fact I've spent a lot of my life avoiding anything branded apart from heinz.

Oxfam hurts so much as I always bought clothes and eco stuff from there. Still wear some of them. But hey ho. Now I'm in France it doesn't make a lot of difference.

KalimbaMoon · 06/06/2023 22:43

Mulvaney advertising Bud Light was not really a problem for UK feminists, Merlin, the backlash mostly came from men in the USA. Gender-critical feminists get annoyed when Mulvaney advertises things intended for women - such as sports bras - and puts on an exaggerated, grotesque caricature of femininity that takes the mick out of women.

Why the fuck do you care? What do people’s individual boundaries have to do with you?

Why do you care what other people boycott so much?

I switched to butter after the Flora debacle. In about 2018.

Some of us can hold ideas in our heads for more than a minute. Its a woman thing.

Now that everyone is talking about Oxfam, I suppose that means the Bud boycott is forgotten?

I don’t think that many people in the UK drink that piss anyway

You know women are capable of doing more than one thing at once don't you?

MerlinsLostMarbles · 06/06/2023 22:35

Most British tabloids are on the "gender critical" side, which again, doesn't exactly make for a balanced debate. It is also ironic how the public figures who claim to be "cancelled" are the ones who are platformed the most.

Metro is one of the few who aren't.

ResisterRex · 06/06/2023 22:34

Women and men who aren't gender critical may have different opinions

Take it up with the Telegraph? Hopefully the Guardian will cover it.

@MerlinsLostMarbles Please, please, please will you stop calling me a 'Gender Critical '? It is dehuminising and reductive and, tbh, fucking rude.

Apologies, but I have already acknowledged that not everyone here holds "gender critical" views.

Bubblyb00b · 06/06/2023 22:31

With all this I absolutely despair at the portrayal of ALL LGBT+ people as young colourful Studio 54 drag queen types. When the majority of gay and trans people I know are middle aged no-makeup jeans and sweatshirt types - boring, ordinary working people just living their life like the rest of us...

I also HATE this style of cartoon, fake-childish crap with fat sausage like limbs and small heads, it seems to be very popular at the moment and seem to be a shorthand for "progressive" and "quirky"

Not exactly a balanced argument there, all the people mentioned are known gender criticals.

Women and men who aren't gender critical may have different opinions.

Haha! I bet that's news to rishi sunak.

It's not gender critical feminists you have to convince, it's everyone.

Sex IS real, y'know 😁
