"A Found Family Is About Finally Feeling Whole, Something That Might Be Absent In Your Biological Family, Like A Full Set Of Acrylic Nails Or A Good Pair Of Fake Lashes. It’s A Community You Choose, Whose Values And Honesty Speak To Your Own."

What is the point of This Particular campaign then? Fucking hell it's like pulling teeth.

What do you not understand about "to sell stuff"?

Somebodiesmother · 04/06/2023 15:31

No offence but things are a tad different to Mary W's time.

There is plenty of second wave writing critiquing the nuclear family.

To sell stuff, like every other campaign shops run.

I’ve always understood a critique of the biological (and particularly, the nuclear) family as a central tenet of feminism from Mary Wollstonecraft onwards. My own GC beliefs are bound up in on that, too.

What are they then? You seem to know all about it.

How is buying clothes from Primark benefitting non random found family people? Who are these people? How are they assessed for suitability? Are they DBS checked? What funding do they get? How are Primark vetting them?

I think you’ve misunderstood the advertisement. I don’t think Primark are advertising that they are starting an adoption service Hmm

It’s meant to appeal to people who have a found family, or are part of one. I mean personally I think it’s a silly advert and the false eyelashes etc shows it’s just a corporate attempt at virtue signalling rather than a genuine understanding or caring. But I think you’re reading a bit too much into it.

It doesn't, nobody said it did. You made that up.

I'm always astonished about how little feminist theory and history is known about by a lot of the posters here.

Maddy70 · 04/06/2023 15:19

Why not?

Explain it then! How does the funding flow from purchasing clothes to paying these people to support kids that aren't theirs? I'm all ears.

Exactly what I was thinking! 🤣

I guess Primark are just promoting whatever kind of "honesty" requires people to buy more tat.

At least this seems to be the year though that these companies are being called out on it.

The "equivalence" of fake nails and false lashes with honesty is hilarious.

Found family isn't about bringing up random children, they don't need to be assessed for suitability. They are just how people who are non contact with their legal/biological family make connections with others that are stronger and more stable than most friendships.

And yet children are being groomed online by RANDOM people, a lot very older blokes with questionable intentions, telling young children their found family will be so much better than their actual family.

Some posters have more or less lost their children to a friends family who embraces the troubled teen who thinks she's a boy...

Oh so these aren't kids with their own parents then, huh.

AlisonDonut · 04/06/2023 14:59

It is all fucking baffling.

ResisterRex · 04/06/2023 14:59

Hands up whose found family aligns with ILGA and wants to lower the age of consent to 10? No? Nobody on board??

Because that is what Primark are aligning themselves with.

AlisonDonut · 04/06/2023 14:58

Somebodiesmother · 04/06/2023 14:54

None of my found family are randoms that take in other peoples kids. That's not what a found family is.

nilsmousehammer · 04/06/2023 14:57

I'm still baffled by the quote.

A really great set of false lashes has always been absent from my biological family, and actually I'm quite glad about that. I'm also not sure that familial trauma is going to be that fixed by acrylic nails, but each to their own.

Somebodiesmother · 04/06/2023 14:54

AlisonDonut · 04/06/2023 14:52

How does buying clothes at Primark benefit them?

I don't understand the point Primark are making, how is money being funnelled to randoms who take in other people's kids. How does this all actually work?

"These people" mentioned by @Powderherface are clearly members of one's found family.
