Frustrating conversation with NB sister

'I don't want to be called a cis woman.' (Me)
'I will call you cis because that's what you are.'
'What would you say if a transwoman wanted to be called a woman?'
'I would call her a woman.'
'You wouldn't insist on calling them a trans woman because that's what they are?'
...

It's so frustrating how many women and girls don't realise this movement is actually the pinnacle of male entitlement, to the point of them taking over womanhood for themselves. And the refusal to see it when confronted with it.

end rant.

Do any of you know what cis means?

Comfortable in skin

So if that is offensive, are you NOT comfortable in your skin? 🤷‍♀️

Genuinely confused as to why it's deemed offensive.

I'm a woman. I'm a cis woman. I'm a middle aged woman. I'm a divorced woman. I'm a single woman. I'm a straight woman. I'm an overweight woman. I'm a working woman. I'm an intelligent woman.

I could go on.

They're all just adjectives.

Lucky you if you're comfortable in your skin. Do you recognise your privilege? It's not common.

Comfortable in skin? 😂

if that were true the majority of young people (definitely girls) would NOT be in anyway cis at all.

And wtf does that mean anyway? I didn’t feel even close to being “comfortable in my skin” until I was in my 30s- even now I can’t say hand on heart I’m 100% ok with myself.

Have you somehow missed the generations of girls and women who go to sometimes extremes to fit into an ideal they can’t measure up to?

Actually now I think about it maybe this explains the rise in girls who id as nb/trans- because some idiot is telling them they need to change not society.

No, it's not 'comfortable in MY skin', just 'comfortable in skin'.

Ask Ed Gein.

ILikeDungs · 02/06/2023 16:20

Do any of you know what cis means?

Yes. It is a way of fucking with language to create a situation where women lose the word "women" and it no longer means, well, women. Trans is also a prefix to women, TW argue, so they are just as valid women as those other prefixed women are.

It is a ploy and I'm not having it. I am a woman.

"Assigned at birth" is similar. Get people to accept hearing and speaking crazy-speak, and you get people accepting crazy concepts.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/06/2023 15:34

Yes and it was only coined for gender identity about 30 years ago, and certainly wasn't in wide use for most of that.

JanesLittleGirl · 02/06/2023 15:32

@CClementineorsatsuma
"Do any of you know what cis means?

Comfortable in skin"

Wrong. It is the Latin prefix cis- meaning 'on this side '. It is an approximate opposite to the Latin prefix trans- meaning 'across' or 'on the other side '.

Wow, the Romans were using English all those years ago? It's a bit odd though that they would refer to comfortable in skin alpine Gaul (Gallia Cisalpina) and transalpine Gaul (Gallia Transalpina).

Hagosaurus · 02/06/2023 15:12

Noting that Tea and Clementine seem to have stopped posting. If either of you do read this, I’m still really interested in your view of the meaning of the word ‘woman’ in non-circular referency language if you can do that?

Also really interested in the difference between NB and someone who just chooses not to conform to all?/most?/some? sex-based stereotyping - cos I honestly haven’t ever met anyone who confirms to all sex-based stereotypical preferences & characteristics. Are we all NB now?

Comfortable in skin?! I have a bit of a rash. Does that make me trans?

😂

ScrollingLeaves · 02/06/2023 15:03

@TeaKlaxon
I was wondering what you make of the non-human members of the animal and plant kingdoms: are they too ‘assigned’ to be male or female at birth?

Or are they just born male or female?

ifIwerenotanandroid · 02/06/2023 14:54

TeaKlaxon · 02/06/2023 12:21

But I think trans women are 'actual women' too. So referring to women who are not trans as 'actual women' doesn't work to distinguish between cisgender women and transgender women.

Which is essentially what this boils down to: you want to prevent the use of cisgender precisely so you can force people like me to express views that I don't believe (i.e. that trans women aren't 'actual women').

Your analysis in the last paragraph shows your understanding of the issue. So presumably you can understand the issue from our point of view, too:

You, TeaKlaxon (& all the other genderists), want to impose the use of cisgender precisely so you can force people like me to express views that I don't believe.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/06/2023 14:51

Do any of you know what cis means?

It doesn't mean that, it means "I subscribe to the ideology where males can be women, and I must define myself in relation to those males".

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 02/06/2023 14:33

KalimbaMoon · 02/06/2023 12:55

Teaklaxon, are trans men actual men? If you had a long-term girlfriend Martina who later transitioned to become Martin… no deadnaming allowed, how does that affect the time you spent with them when they were Martina? Were you unwittingly dating a man all along, if TMAM? Does that mean you were inadvertently in a heterosexual relationship? This is another reason why I can’t accept TWAW and TMAM, it’s not grounded in reality but in intangible feelings.

See the article in ‘Glamour’ for an example of this instance, although willingly entered into , not a subsequent clarification of gender identity by either party. I have posted a transcript on this board.

See my post just above.
Feel free to Google chemistry cis and trans. It is really quite fun and interesting. Chemistry, that is.

It's funny you use those words 'so you can force people like me to express views that I don't believe'.
This is exactly how I feel about being expected to call a man in a dress a transwoman. He is not a woman and never will be. But his special feelings somehow trump my reality.

We all know what cis means and we all know that what you have here is completely, wilfully disingenuous. And you know it too.

I find it amazing posters here get told off for not using preferred terms and not respecting gender identities but when they ask for the same courtesy it’s all “nah.”

I find it utterly predictable.

turbonerd · 02/06/2023 14:29

TeaKlaxon · 02/06/2023 12:31

Of course cisgender means not transgender.

Cisgender means someone who does not have a gender identity at odds with sex assigned at birth.

OP does not have a gender identity at odds with sex assigned at birth (she may well believe she has no gender identity at all but that amounts to the same thing for these purposes).

Once more for the people at the back:

Your sex is NOT assigned at birth. Your sex is NOT assigned at any point.

Your sex is determined at conception, depending on which sex-chromosome the sperm is carrying; they carry Y or X. The ova always carry X.
So if the sperm that fertilizes the egg carries another X you have XX= female. If it carries a Y you have XY= male.

Then - here’s the exciting part - the sex is OBSERVED in utero (if you can see a penis OR the lips of labia in the ultrasound)
or at birth.

Trans and Cis are chemistry terms. Molecules are built up in different ways …

Never you mind, we’ll do chemistry next time.

That's what it means to you. But someone just made that up, and very recently too. What "cis" means to me is "subset of women" and I'm not having that.

Do you know what "foolish person" means? It means wonderful clever person. How come you don't know that? Foolish is just an adjective too. Can I call you foolish now?

Yes, but there are adjectives and then there are bollox 'nouveau' adjectives that have been imposed by the thought police. Cis only appeared on the scene a few years ago - imagine someone calling themselves a cis woman in 1995 - it would have meant nothing.

So it's not a natural descriptor that would have always called yourself, instead it's something you are being told to say recently in order to align yourself within a gender ideology (one that many of us don't agree with). It's a signifier that you go along with this bollox.

ArabeIIaScott · 02/06/2023 14:28

Plus, there are plenty of adjectives I don't want applied to me, thanks. Some are inaccurate, and I reject them, and some are offensive.

I do get fed up with people (here looking at you Tea, but also OP’s sister, you’re definitely not the only one) who want to assume that anybody who doesn’t declare their gender is cis. How come you get to define someone else’s gender, and indeed, whether or not they have one?

As pp’s have said, misgendering is bad, unless it’s addressed to actual women, beeee kind, unless it’s to actual women etc
