If I ran a business I would keep a pride flag up all year round, if it makes me lose 0.2% of customers who are gender critical I'd be more than happy with that

Target’s share price has fallen by around 13% this last couple of weeks which is equivalent to over $9 billion dollars.

Probably half the country, or more, share the GC concern with child transitioning or pushing gender ideology on children.

Sorry but I don't see these rapture rapsters as allies.

My heart sinks whenever I see the word allies; it smacks of blindly following others - over a cliff like lemmings. Or trying to hang onto the coat tails of a group you are not part of as some sort of second class obsequious servant. I am no one’s ally and don’t want anyone to be mine. If you agree with me on something that is great and I hope you would support me when I speak up on that. I do not expect you to support me on other matters and I am sure I will be on the opposite side of the fence to you on many things.

Good point. "Allies" (see also "I stand with") is commonly used in a notional sense rather than to signify practical cooperation. It can imply the sort of tribal non-thinking that has so many politicians, trade unionists and managers reciting mantras they haven't thought through but took off the team shelf of positions.

That was me! I was very disappointed to find that thread deleted before I had a chance to read the rest of it. And yes, toddler sizes were on the same racks as adult sizes. Some items were not marked as kid sizes but they were clearly kid sized. They must have removed the bathing suits and the binders because there weren't any at all. Some racks were pretty sparse.

A parent should be able to say to her child "let's pick you out a new swimming costume" without suddenly being faced with "mummy, daddy, what's tucking?"

For all that the TRA complain that the GC are obsessed with knowing what genitals someone else has, it seems to be the GC who recognise that children should be shielded from details of what adults do with their genitals. This is basic safeguarding.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 31/05/2023 13:18

Thank you for your time and detective work Murcia! I'm sorry that you didn't get a chance to read the thread before it was zapped.

I've had a look online. The binders and tuck-friendly swimwear is only sold in adult sizes. The video claiming otherwise misrepresented the situation, describing an adult swimsuit as being from the children's section. (It might have been found there, but that doesn't mean it was meant to be there.)

In a thread that was deleted a MNetter in the US went to her local store to have a look and what she found mirrored what I read online which was that there was a separate Pride Section in the stores with themed merchandise in it different from their usual offerings. In this, the adult and children's sections were not separated - so, for example, there was a row of t-shirts ranging from toddler to extra large adult sizes. The bathing costume found in the original video was, I think, found in this section.

@MerlinsLostMarbles

Now I know you are being desingenuous. You have kept better track of the mumsnet boycotts that I have and yet pretend that they are the result of some kind of homophobia.

FifteenQuarter · 31/05/2023 13:01

I think James and Allie or were great to point out what Christian group do you want in control them all, as Protestants are fractured and they all hate Catholics. Yet we seem to have two groups trying to recreate a Handmaid tale, The Q rainbow men and their surrogacy sub human Martha as public servant/slaves for any man and these very masculine Protestant men with his own woman to himself.

@MerlinsLostMarbles

You know perfectly well it is nothing about rainbow flags. From what I saw of the products people were complaining about it was everything from breastbinders to pedophilia material

https://www.newsweek.com/lego-faces-boycott-calls-over-transgender-building-sets-1803239

And Flora and M&S (after they ended their sponsorship with MN), the NSPCC (tbh not sure how you boycott a child protection org), New Zealand, Bud, Nike and most sports brands, Primark because they permit transpeople to use the changing rooms as is their legal right under the EA, Wagamama(for displaying a flag), Target, and now Lego. And there's probably a bunch of others I missed.

And yes I have seen posts on here where members complain en-mass to shops that have a pride flag in the window. The one with the triangle part; which you may be interested to know also has colours representing people of colour, people affected by AIDs as well as the trans community.

If you boycott ever single place that remotely shows any support for gay+trans people that must make shopping difficult? June is coming up so expect to see a lot more pride flags.

If I ran a business I would keep a pride flag up all year round, if it makes me lose 0.2% of customers who are gender critical I'd be more than happy with that, at least it would help keep my premises a safe space.

Backstreets · 31/05/2023 12:30

Nobody ever thought these rappers (or Tucker Carlson, or Kid Rock) were "GC feminists". That makes about as much sense as the charge levelled at Trump that he was a "TERF". The true opponent of trans ideology is reality, which is shared by a great number of people.

What does worry me is that the strides gay people made - with no corporate backing, mind you!! - will be walked back as the TQ has massively overreached. I watched Megyn Kelly for a while as I enjoy her newly peaked fury and her platforming of great women and girls fighting for women's rights (she recently had the terrific Inga Thompson on), but then she'll turn around and talk to some openly homophobic podcaster. The left "shutting down debate" and allowing the right to own the mainstream narrative on this has been a disaster.

I'm sick of being exploited for profit. Where were Barclays Bank when I was growing up under Section 28? I feel like the rainbow flag has been stolen from me by companies who would drop it again as soon as it ceased to be profitable. Maybe these Target boycotters will do me an unintentional favour by getting fauxtivist companies to stop usurping a flag that was never theirs to monetise.

Yes, it's usually quite stark how much of the Pride branding is used by these large companies in marketing aimed at their Middle Eastern markets. i.e. none. But they really want to make a difference, right?

I have some thoughts on that, nils.

Which is why I no longer respond.

Unfortunately yes, it's training me to scroll on by which isn't how conversation/debate should work. But this is getting rather like the character in Ankh Morpork who randomly shouts 'millenium hand and shrimp' regardless of the conversation or what anyone else is saying.

He’s not too popular in Islam, either.

I would be annoyed if I was not into him, and him being linked to a group doing what is reported in the NYP ( if I believe him or not - I know KJK says she would link arms with him in jest and does not believe in him) to a group I was linked to, as is done to pups and NAZIs I would remove myself from him, in the UK it's a joke matter, not so much abroad.

Often as the USA catches a cold - the UK sneezes.

FifteenQuarter · 31/05/2023 09:47

I would think most people find binding breasts and tucking a penis of a child wrong.

Then for Christians you have the Satan aspect.

He’s not too popular in Islam, either.

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 31/05/2023 11:48

I think these items were frequently grouped together in the "Pride" section with items for younger children.

That wouldn't be appropriate.

nilsmousehammer · 31/05/2023 11:31

Do you make lists of companies that sell LGBT products or put up rainbow flags etc?

Merlin I've personally explained this to you several times across several threads, the last time in very small words and short sentences. So I have to assume that either it does not matter how many times someone explains this you just don't have the capacity to understand and process the language, or that you are not posting in good faith and hope by repeating this idiocy over and over and over again you're achieving something. I'm not sure what.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 31/05/2023 11:41

The tucking swimming costumes only came in adult sizes. Same with the TomboyX binders.

Teenagers and even tall tweens often wear adult sizes, and I think these items were frequently grouped together in the "Pride" section with items for younger children.

Putting kids im onesies that say "gay" (or "straight, or "bi", or any other sexuality) and "be kind" is bad enough.

Do you remember Claire Fox having this linked conversation years ago?

I have a new found respect for those who excell at maths like KJK and Helen Joyce, as much as I respect those who change their mind when presented with new information.

I recall KK from Triggernomey managed to move his position after listening to KJK and HM. I think he should listen again and think again regards to his stance on James Lindsay. Do you remember the lesson Piers Morgan said he learned about gun control and the culture of other countries when on Triggernometry, I am sure KK gets that regards to those who don't understand Russias.

That is just my opinion though.

I see that once again women are asked to solve the problems of the world. Yeah, nah.

America has an enormous problem of forced teaming and identity politics.
And we are not a small number of voices who know the difference between sexuality and personality.
We are about 50%of the population.

I am not going to do any extra work because you want me to signal my allyship. What's happening now is a highly predictable consequence of not listening to women in the first place.

I wasn't asking women to solve this.

I said We (LGB and trans) people need to kick the fetishists and puppy players out of the Pride parades and put the closing bracket in the wrong place. That should have read We (LGB and trans people) need to kick the fetishists and puppy players out of the Pride parades. This is for LGB and trans people to sort out.

dimorphism · 31/05/2023 11:18

When I see 'allies' now I immediately assume whoever is using the word is trying to distract from the issue and trying to shame other people, usually women.

Inappropriate sexualisation of children is the issue.

However much a certain determined group of people try and shut parents up by trying to 'align' having safeguarding concerns with alt right views, it's going to fail.

Honestly if the choice is properly safeguarding children and being labelled 'right wing' vs giving free rein to those trying to abuse my children, I'm happy to be labelled 'right wing' thanks. If it means fewer children are harmed, I'll embrace it.

dimorphism · 31/05/2023 11:14

Asking in good faith- how do you keep up with all the stores and products you have to boycott?

Wow breathtaking lack of understanding of the lived experience of mid-life women. I currently do all the shopping for two families (that whole pesky caring thing), I know other women who do the shopping for 4 families.

Keeping track of companies promoting inappropriate sexualisation of children / sterilisation of children / rampant misogyny is easy compared to the likes, dislikes, allergies and diets of from 6-16 people.

I am not sure we are the least Christian country but there certainly seems to be a trend in the UK of thinking it is acceptable to denigrate Christian’s in a way which would be considered totally unacceptable of other faiths.

It is intersectional top trumps, if you are what they call a cis straight Christian man you are at the bottom with a low score card, it seems the men don't like that in America.
