If anyone is a member of the Oxford Union it says her talk is at 5pm tomorrow.

Is anyone from FWR going?

We have received thousands of comments online. Some of them very homophobic, very transphobic, hateful, threatening," they said.

"They" got a weird letter with a mildly threatening tone, not a death threat, and thousands of unimpressed tweets, many pointing out they's privilege to be able to study at a world class university, and they's general unsuitability for it.

It will never cease to wind me up that these people use accusations of homophobia to shame people, when they can't even define homosexuality, and are about as homophobic as you can get.

Couldn’t resist making a little collage using text from the live feed on the Oxford Mail website and the pic from twitter…

Though I am guessing from the use of the word they in the second sentence the first is also relating to this particular individual rather than the society.

Or may be it doesn't, who knows. This is what happens when people mangle with language.

WhiteFire · 30/05/2023 21:11

Amiad Haran Diman, president of the university's LGBTQ+ Society, said they had received death threats in the post after speaking out against Prof Stock's invitation to the event.
"We have received thousands of comments online. Some of them very homophobic, very transphobic, hateful, threatening," they said.

Show us them then. (quote from BBC news report)

Someone in my mentions said this looks like two parents bored stiff putting on their child’s favourite DVD for the 200th time while the child sits too close to the TV. Cannot unsee this

That is brilliant 😂😂

It’s pretty sad when some of the alleged brightest minds and some of their teachers talk about banning people just because they don’t agree with their views.
You either have freedom of speech and debate full stop or you don’t have it at all. Kathleen Stock and JKR have always presented their views respectfully and clearly. I just don’t get the opposition to their views and the idea that if you support them you are transphobic - it’s such a lazy way of thinking.
The way this small group even stops members within their own community from talking when they do not align 100% with their narrative is very worrying.
The way certain media outlets try to connect trans rights to other minority rights as they are all connected again shows how lazy they are in their thinking.
These people do no favours to the trans community and their time would be far better spent lobbying parliament for mental health and suicide prevention support for trans people or to raise money for these and other important support groups than attacking people who are standing up for women.

Somewhere on the internet soon we are going to see this post referred to as evidence that violent Mumsnet terfs are calling for the protesters to be decapitated. 😂

We are, aren’t we?!

Panic not, reality-deniers, no-one is calling for decapitation (your pals do that through the medium of hand made banners…) or for your heads to be glued to a table. We’ll leave the Pritt sticking to you.

If only they had glued it to the terfy table and left it there for future generations to come and marvel at the ludicrous period in history when some people thought humans could change sex.

Big thumbs up to the transactivists for putting what would've been a quietly underreported debate about women's rights into the eye of the national media and discussion all across the country and internationally. Prof Stock couldn't have asked for better publicity!

Yes, it doesn't make sense that they would do that.

I guess they were 100% sure they would succeed in silencing debate, so the prospect of drumming up all this mainstream awareness for the thing they didn't want anyone to hear about never even entered their minds.
