Cracker of a reply from Doc Stock

What a lovely ratio for a sunny June weekend.

I can’t believe Balls has drawn attention to his execrable “interview” with Kathleen Stock. The normal response would be to keep your head down for a week or two and hope everyone forgets about it. I can only assume he thought he did rather well, and is proud to associate himself with it. Maybe his son told him he “done great Dad!”

Well quite. Drawing attention to it and not realising what an idiot he looked only adds another layer of stupidity.

Yes I imagine so Grin

Iafontaine · 04/06/2023 11:11

You can tell he doesn't like being bested by a woman, plain and simple.

FrancescaContini · 04/06/2023 10:30

I thought that too. Ed looks clueless.

Clueless , I agree. Also I was surprised by his expression in the interview , when he says “I knows what most people think”, and KS responds with a laugh and “I can see that” (or along those lines). His face flickers with genuine anger. I very much did not like that. Very revealing.

'Left' & 'Right' are flexible and changing political polarities which evolve with time according to circumstances. There may be a certain set of fairly fixed, key values, but apart from that it is a moveable feast.

Seriously? That is pure Humpty Dumpty. It certainly doesn't support the argument that the current government is politically, socially or fiscally to the right of Thatcher. I could equally argue that Boris Johnson presided over the most left wing government since Jim Callaghan.

Matthew Parris was an MP from 1979 to 1986. The party has drifted to the right since Thatcher?

The party has drifted to the right, but Parris is socially liberal, at least on gay rights of course, which has always given him the appearance of being "leftist" perhaps? I'm not sure how economically conservative he is.

This isn't a left or right issue, i think what we are seeing within the political parties is that the conservatives are allowing disagreement, labour not so much.

Another problem is that politicians support policy without any understanding. Thats why politicians have said babies are born without a sex, surgery changes sex, sex is a spectrum. All of which clearly arent true. Or most people believe it, men who want to be women are the most marginalised in society - nothing that is relelevant when removing safeguarding.

Now that the media have started to ask questions, politicians have been exposed. They were either conned by activists, or went into this knowing they were comprising safeguarding. Neither is good.

Matthew parris is protecting the political class by admitting there's a problem but telling us to ignore it.

Matthew Parris a leftist man? He used to be a Tory MP, and as far as I can tell hasn't gone through a Bercow-style Damascene conversion. It's more that the party has drifted rightwards in recent years I think.

Matthew Parris also busy demonstrating how leftist men at the moment seem to have their ears tuned to the point that they just can't hear women. Critical thinking, any grip on reality, and ability to foresee the bleeding obvious mode also appears to be switched off.

It's depressing. That party is increasingly looking buggered beyond hope of recovery. Fgs where's a sane middle-left new party? The goal's open wide.

People are not impressed.

What an idiot - ratioed all over again (just like Innocent Smoothies earlier in the week).

'Odd and slightly baffling' sums up the attitude of most of Labour on this matter tbf Ed.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 03/06/2023 14:12

People whining about 'but other issues are more important than women's equality in law' are missing this point entirely

The point they're also missing is that a) they are important to women and b) dismissing women's issues as 'not important' is not a good look as far as millions of women are concerned. Start losing rights that have been hard fought for and kiss goodbye to getting them back.

Thanks! This was just a really quick piece. I'm working on lots of other pieces about women in history meanwhile.

I have just finished watching the ‘what is a woman’ film (link on Twitter via Elon Musk’s page or Daily Wire). As Elon has tweeted ‘every parent must watch this’. Over 100 million people have watched it since it was posted yesterday afternoon and counting!! I hope that the pendulum (in America at least) is starting to swing the other way. This nonsense is damaging children and has to stop.

ArabeIIaScott · 03/06/2023 08:17

nilsmousehammer · 02/06/2023 23:25

This.

It would be bringing back heresy laws of the kind rampant in Tudor times, and it created a bloody mess then.

People whining about 'but other issues are more important than women's equality in law' are missing this point entirely. This fixing of compelled belief, compelled speech and punishment for failing to deny reality on command is insanity. You can hardly think a bunch of nutjobs who are sufficiently loopy to think this is the right way to run a country and apparently lack the capacity to think things through any further and see the very obvious issues - not least their utter lack of respect for humans Not Like Them - are going to be any more sensible on other issue.

Absolutely.

Of course I think women's rights are crucially important, but the authoritarianism, the control, coercion and manipulation of those pushing genderist ideas are what I find really breathtaking.

These are people who are willing to state absurdities. To attack, defame, smear, threaten and lie.

Basically they'll do whatever it takes to get their ideology entrenched; they don't care who is harmed.
