From the NY article, I am sure I read that she only started to think about this bill when it was tabled. It didn’t say she had a child with a trans identity.

The article mentions that she has a friend with a child who identifies as trans. Her friend may be a main source of her 'information'.

One of Cavanaugh’s friends and colleagues, Megan Hunt, who owns a stationery store in Omaha, led with a personal appeal. Hunt, an independent and the first openly bi woman in the body, has a 13-year-old son, Ash, who came out as trans a few years ago. Along with several Democrats, she had been participating in Cavanaugh’s filibuster, filing motions and eating up floor time.

”She probably can’t though if it is true that she has transed her child”

From the NY article, I am sure I read that she only started to think about this bill when it was tabled. It didn’t say she had a child with a trans identity. Her children are under 9 years old I think.

“Five weeks earlier, a Republican colleague had introduced LB 574, the “Let Them Grow” bill, which would ban transgender people under the age of 19 from seeking what it described as “gender altering procedures,” including puberty-blocking drugs, hormone therapy, and surgery. Like most of her colleagues, Cavanaugh hadn’t known much about the health-care needs of transgender people before the bill was introduced, but in the weeks since, she had talked to doctors, read papers, and listened to hours of testimony, and she had concluded that the proposal was ill-conceived, unscientific, and bigoted.”

If only she would listen to detransitioners like Richie Herring and Kiera Bell. It would be great if someone invited them to address the Nebraska legislature.

She probably can’t though if it is true that she has transed her child. Especially if the child has already had medication and surgery. Imagine how hard it must be to admit that you might have made choices for your child which have caused irreversible damage. Most mothers think twice before even taking paracetamol during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For me that would explain what looks like mental instability. I am amazed that she hasn’t been signed off work, she really doesn’t seem well at all.

I'm waiting for the remixes.

Defo!

Standing in the Way of Control . That's the one. A real belter.

@CliantheLang so fucking true it's heartbreaking

Thumpsquids · 22/05/2023 09:25

Batshit, obviously, but she does have rhythm!

IcakethereforeIam · 22/05/2023 09:23

She's been the subject of a sympathetic article in the NY Magazine. She's been doing stuff like this for months! Completely clogging up the legislature with mono-maniacal glee. The comments are an interesting read, except for one tra who's spamming anyone remotely critical

‘I Want the Bloody Hands Recorded’

Machaela Cavanaugh’s tear-and-rage-filled filibuster of a Nebraska anti-trans bill she knew would probably pass anyway.

Well, Andrea Dworkin warned us. She said we couldn't trust the left with feminism. That leftist men would sell us out every time. And that hows we lost Roe.

Andrea Dworkin was.right about a lot of things, including that.

ValuePartnership · 22/05/2023 06:49

Sorry, didn't quite catch that.

I saw this on KF earlier. What is starting to worry me is that the laws to protect under 18s from gender surgery are getting rolled up with the laws restricting abortion - in this case, restricting abortion to 12 weeks - on the ground that both are 'protecting children '. In the same way that genderists tagged trans onto LGB. This kind of forced teaming will not be good for women.

Remixes? Is that the latest idiom for men in white coats?

PorcelinaV · 21/05/2023 23:31

I'm waiting for the remixes.

Datun · 21/05/2023 23:25

Well I don't think I've seen anything more convincing. 🤣

SinnerBoy · 21/05/2023 21:57

I can't watch the video, because of low bandwidth, but I've read about it now. She sounds quite deranged. Definitely worse than the SNPs on their Self ID ban. As bad as Russel Lloyd-Mole giving out at Rosie Duffield.

Floisme · 21/05/2023 14:55

I realise this is a clip but I'm struck by (among other things) the repetition of 'people'. Is there any point where she acknowledges that the legislation is about children?

zen1 · 21/05/2023 14:45

When I first saw that, I seriously thought it was a parody account. She has serious issues.

Abhannmor · 21/05/2023 13:33

I always mute ranty stuff now. Nerves are not great lately. My mind filled this one in with a Beth Ditto song. Can't think of the title...

dropthevipers · 21/05/2023 12:54

needs dragging off stage left with a shepherds crook, Les Dawson style. (one for the teenagers there)

Helleofabore · 21/05/2023 12:51

This is up there with the ‘artistic’ screaming recently of a female (who I think had identified as trans) . The accumulation of these performances in front of microphones while supposedly presenting convincing arguments to panels setting policy is mounting. And showing a distinct lack of coherent arguments or even just coherence.

MrsMitford3 · 21/05/2023 12:30

I saw this on twitter and someone there posted that she has a trans child

NecessaryScene · 21/05/2023 12:29

If I understand correctly this was part of a filibuster attempt to stop a bill that was banning physical gender treatment for children in Nebraska.

In places where filibustering is permitted, I thought most places at least required you to speak on a topic, not as strict as Just a Minute, say (no hesitation, repetition or deviation), but requiring something better than this. Watching that, I'm wondering how far we are away from representatives just showing up and setting off a siren.

The other wrinkle here is that I believe that at the last minute, following a failed attempt to get an even stricter ban as a separate bill, the Republicans merged a post-12-week abortion ban into the same bill.

I'm wondering if there was a separate bit of screaming about that, and how much she loves women, or is it only medicalising children that she's crazy about?

IdaGoodnight · 21/05/2023 09:05

Who does she need and love? I didn’t quite catch it.

<snort>

Trains. She has a strong accent.

Florissant · 21/05/2023 10:55

If only she could have put some passion into what she was saying...
