The only mainstream party that currently acknowledges biological reality took a bit of a pounding yesterday (results so far). Spoiled ballot papers ain't going to cut it. From these results we might get a Labour Libdem coalition next time, if not outright Labour majority.

Either way, that means full steam ahead for Self ID.

If you are still a member of the Labour Party, Labour Women's Declaration is trying to get GC candidates on the National Women's Committee and push back at the MRAs who run the party. The nominations go in this month and next. LWD running an advice session soon.

Is Labour on course, as polls suggest, for a potential general election victory next year?

No. I'm not for it. God. But I watch what the Tories have done to this country for 13 years and I cannot watch it any more. Destroying SureStart from sheer spite said how it would be from the start. Their corrupt, disgusting cheapening of this country, the economy, the culture. All they care about is themselves and their party connections.

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 19:56

Young people have had the benefit of being taught this at school because a small group of males have managed to push it into institutions

Are people on here really for the erasure of words such as mother and woman or divorcing them from biological reality?

I think it’s likely over but my god it’s sad.

PermanentTemporary · 06/05/2023 19:54

Yes. A big majority of young people think self id is right. Hardly any young people vote Conservative. The Tories are going to lose (though Labour majority is less certain, but a coalition wouldn't change the outcome on seif id). This issue is lost.

I hope for policy backups that sort out the issues nested inside the shell of the law. I think at the moment that's the best achievable outcome. To do that, we need to be in the room.

zibzibara · 06/05/2023 19:47

I think we need to wait until Labour publish their next manifesto, but I'd be very surprised if it has a commitment to gender self-id, given what happened with SNP+Greens.

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 19:47

Scrutiny…

SunnyEgg · 06/05/2023 19:45

I think it’ll be hard to change it back

All the proper routes to scripting go with it. Look at NZ and what happens when women want to speak up

Language goes - women and mother targeted

All so depressing

PermanentTemporary · 06/05/2023 19:43

Yes. I want a government that has some concept of the collective, of our obligations to each other. I want a Labour government. Laws can be changed and changed again.

Riapia · 06/05/2023 19:36

the promise of forming a government of good, honest and competent people.

They’d struggle to find enough to form a cabinet let alone a government.

PermanentTemporary · 06/05/2023 19:17

No I wouldn't join multiple parties. I want a Labour Government.

Even with the gender ideology?

It’s laudable to aim to change it from within but if it doesn’t work do you still want them

What does Posie Parker have in her manifesto? I admire her but trying to set up a party from scratch takes many many years. Better to take the manifesto to existing parties.

The MRAs have worked from the inside, not just in political parties. Women need to do the same and challenge them on their own insitutional turf. It won't happen immediately either as they have a 20 year head start.

They have a 20 year head start and they are male..

Just saw this on Twitter. We're fucked

This shit so reminds me of the whole Campden Is A Proud Nuclear Free Zone from the 80s.

At least in those days the virtue signalling was aimed at our Russian friends. Today, it's turned inwards.

RealityFan · 06/05/2023 18:46

Bitteraftertaste · 05/05/2023 09:50

I have talked to various friends about this issue. It seems women are bothered and none of the men are that bothered. One male friend accused me of being as bad as a racist because it was marginalising an entire group.

My closest friendship is with a woman and we met in the trade union movement. We were talking about this just yesterday. Left wing men have always been overall deeply misogynistic in our experience.

You're being let down. Plenty of men care. It's not enough, it seems.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/05/2023 18:42

That's a really good idea Permanent. Can you join multiple parties?

PermanentTemporary · 06/05/2023 18:22

I'm considering joining the party just to add some weight on the issue, however tiny. I've never been a member of a party before.

A family member took a high up job in the Lib Dems for a while. Behind the scenes there is an intense ongoing factional battle on exactly this issue. But the leadership are keeping a very tight lid on it. They hold on to some senior GC people because they are such effective politicians but those ones are under constant attack. It is quire frightening to see.

IwantToRetire · 06/05/2023 18:07

Sorry meant to add that from local results turnout has been reported as being well below 40%, sometimes as low as 32%. TV interviews seem to imply many Tory voters to punish Westminster (bit of an own goal if they wanted Tories locally) didn't vote.

ie as if often said, Labour didn't win, the Tories lost.

IwantToRetire · 06/05/2023 18:04

I think the one hope re self ID etc., is that this Government is going ahead with the legal case against Scotland's GRR. If they win then in fact Labour will have an out, because they can say that as it will only have been in the past 12 months that there has been a legal process which blocks self id and lowering the age to 16, they will focus on other priorities. And I think they wont want the public (even if it is only those on FWR staging protests at the start of them becoming the Government.

Another ray of hope (and I almost dont want to say this in case it jinxes it!) I started a new thread because it turns out they have book Westminster Hall for the debate on the 2 opposing petitions re Sex & EA.

I was concerned to see that a member of the Labour Party had been put forward to Chair, but then I came across an article about her. If a true reflection if may say something about the Tories attitudes - not of course that the Chair of a debate should sway the outcome! See https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4800027-debate-relating-to-the-definition-of-sex-in-the-equality-act-2010-will-be-in-westminster-hall-on-12-june-2023-430pm?reply=125951248

But unfortunately (and again this came from a tv pundit) the fact is that Labour will find it hard to get a majority unless they regain the seats they lost in Scotland to the SNP. So on one level reducing the number of SNP MPs who presumably just about of paryt pride would support self ID etc., could be equalised out by having more actual Labour MPs.

re. turnout (someone asked up thread) this was said by a tv pundit but would think by now these figures should be available.

SidewaysOtter · 06/05/2023 16:57

I have a lot of respect for LWD but I think it’s too late for Labour under its current administration. Starmer is trying to straddle the fence because he knows he’s got to try and appeal to women but he doesn’t want the Momentum types to turn on him. So not only is he not achieving anything but we all know that his overtures to woman are entirely self-serving. If he genuinely thought this was an issue he should have had the spine to stand up before now.

And I really don’t trust Labour not to push on with self ID once they get into power. Like the Hunting Act, it’ll be used as a sop to some wing of the party in return for support on something else.

I don’t think that local elections really mean that much, it’s often used as a protest vote before people vote a different way in the general election. I’d be surprised if the Tories don’t squeak home next time round.

Cynical me says that RS can and will do something but will leave it for another year so it is still fresh in the electorate's mind at the election.

Totally

I think similar. He'll do just enough to not provoke ire or do it very quietly and in the run up to the next election, whatever he has done he will hold over starmer.

It'll be a very fine line to hold.

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/05/2023 11:50

Sunak is PM with a large majority, so the Conservatives could sort this now if they wanted to. Why have they not?

Vague promises to protect women's rights at some point in the future don't cut it from the party who lied to the Queen, Parliament and the whole country. If they gave a shit they'd sort it now.

Where do branch resolutions get published?

I don't know that they do, unless through social media.

Any members / ex-members know for sure?

Let's hope he does Needmore. That way we have the law on our side whoever gets in at the next GE.

Floisme · 06/05/2023 13:22

I kind of hope that resolution is passed. We need this out in the open.
