Austin Killips won the Tour of the Gila women's race www.cyclingnews.com/races/tour-of-the-gila-2023/stage-5-women/results/
Just outrageous. Any tweet by the organisers mentioning Killips has restricted comments (but of course many quote tweets)
It's getting more and more ridiculous:

  • the rider retained their original male first name, Austin.
  • they rode for the Amy D Foundation, set up to encourage and support young women through cycling, inspiring the celebration of healthy challenge and empowering the confident pursuit of lofty dreams.
  • this is the first year the women's prize money is the same as the men's.
You couldn't make it up. When will the most sports-loving country in the world protect and give a shit about women in sport?

Posters demanding that elite sportswomen should sacrifice their careers are ignoring the battles women have had to face over the years simply to establish women's sport as a distinct entity - funding, sponsorship, media coverage and often even the "right" to participate.

But there will need to be some level of sacrifice at some point to make this stop won’t there. If nobody raises their head above the parapet the assumption will be that female athletes are fine with what’s happening. Hopefully there’s a lot of activism going on behind the scenes.

This is so enraging. Apparently this was the first time the women had the same prize money as the men and the money had been donated in memory of a local couple who owned a bike shop and supported women’s cycling. How bloody insulting to their memory as well as the women competing.

And here's an example of what happens if a team refuses to play against another team with a biological male as one of their players -

www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/mar/13/vermont-school-that-boycotted-game-with-trans-player-banned-from-tournaments

Banned from all School tournaments. For all sports.

Fizbosshoes · 02/05/2023 07:37

If we're asking why other cyclists don't "do" something, does anyone remember what happened with some of the whistle-blowers on Lance Armstrong? They got publicly slandered, false stories printed about them, even death threats....
That's as well as the issue of athletes losing money and sponsorship if they pull out of a competition or boycott it.

This should be a battle for all of us, men and women, if we're concerned about fairness, equality and ensuring that our daughters, sisters, mothers and all women can participate and thrive in sport. The idea that men - who to a man are all mediocre sportsmen - are being allowed to colonise women's sport for their own financial and narcissistic benefits is completely unacceptable.

We know the public see the unfairness. Just as is having to happen in schools, the toxic anti women tentacles of Stonewall and the other trans lobbyists need to be removed from influencing sporting bodies for their own benefits.

The Telegraph have put this article out today www.telegraph.co.uk/cycling/2023/05/01/austin-killips-transgender-cyclist-wins-race-tour-gila/
Pertinent section for our conversation about the other competitors:
Amid the Killips controversy, Thompson, who came third at the women's Tour de France in 1986 and 1989, argued that the pattern was becoming more common. "These women are young, and there's a lot of bullying," she said. "They get cancelled, they get silenced, their jobs are threatened. They get put on the TERF [trans-exclusionary radical feminist] list. If they say anything, they are eviscerated. And so, instead of fighting this, they just walk away."

That was for @AnotherDayAnotherView... "cannot be bothered", as if this is the sport women's MO. 🙄

Why should women stop playing sport to bring about fairness? They will miss out on everything! They've already lost countless other things in their life that they have sacrificed to be able to do their sport - family gatherings, hanging out with friends, an all round education sometimes, a career, and especially when it comes to women, having to delay having a family. All that sacrifice and you think they are the ones that should step aside? I don't think you know what you're asking them to do.

They will "give a shit" when women stop competing against men. If sportswomen cannot be bothered to defend their own sports by refusing to race against men then frankly touch s*

"This is a problem caused by males which is having an adverse effect on women. Other men need to step up and help. They can show how welcoming they are to 'transwomen' in the men's event."

Transwomen are welcome to compete in men's events any time. They wont because they would lose. Usually wouldn't even place well enough to be in the event to begin with. Men don't exclude transwomen. Transwomen exclude themselves.

As to it being a problem caused by males, unless you expect men to physically leap onto the tracks and solve this problem with physical force, which I'd be fine with but most people want a more peaceful solution, how are men to stop it when female athletes let the transwoman go ahead.

People are talking about sporting bodies being in charge. Boycott them. The sporting bodies depend on women for female sports. They can censure or punish a single woman, they will capitulate in a moment against a hundred.

Lots of men are speaking out very vocally against transwomen in women's sports already and long have done. Mostly on the political right, incidentally. But women are more powerful here. Women can solve this without men. Frankly, this is still the feminism board isn't it? Men will help but women need to act on this.

Men can help. I've already explained how (more than once). Men can also refuse to compete until there is fairness for women.

TheBiologyStupid · 01/05/2023 18:20

All of this. It isn't fair to expect women to miss out in order to fix a problem not of their making.

Of course it isn't fair. People expecting this to be fixed out of fairness are the biggest thing holding back fixing the problem. It wont be. The people pushing this stuff are not interested in fair. At all. When that finally sinks in that women aren't going to appease their way out of this situation, there might finally be the actual action taken needed to reverse all this.

No woman should agree to compete against men in competitive women's sports. If women as a group stopped doing so, this would end within the month.

The vast majority of people around the world are on women's side in this. Even my Leftie friends say things like "I support trans people but they shouldn't be allowed to compete with other women."

The people and organisations which push this stuff will NOT change their minds. Nobody is going to say "oh you're right it isn't fair, I'll stop being a narcissist who will steal 35k from a woman who has trained most of her life for this."

This stops when woman as a group say "No" and until they do so it will continue. "Fair", "should", "shouldn't", "people will realise..." - none of these change anything. You can hope they will, you can want them to with all your heart. They do not.

If women don't want to compete against men then they must stop competing against men. Not wanting to do something and continuing to do it, does not stop that thing from happening.

MathiasBroucek · 01/05/2023 22:44

Someone asked why the men who compete honestly with other men don’t speak out. Sadly, it’s because they fear losing their incomes for being “transphobic”. Whilst that’s not easy to defend ethically, these people will have mortgages and other financial commitments.

The “be kind” nutters have done a great job of driving honesty underground

MrGHardy · 01/05/2023 21:43

Austin has no stats in procyclingstats prior to last year...someone coming out of nowhere (born 95 so not like it is because of age) to suddenly win, basically only one reason for that, doping. But hey, it's legalised doping so all is good.

Theluggage15 · 01/05/2023 21:33

I think it will only stop when the money starts talking, people won’t want to watch a bunch of mediocre males competing in the women’s category when they can watch elite males in men’s. The public will lose interest and therefore sponsors will lose interest. It’s money that matters to all the sporting bodies, protecting women’s sports seems secondary to that.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 01/05/2023 21:17

Spot on EsmaCannonball. It's the sports governing bodies responsible for all this. They're the ones responsible for listening to the gender fantasists that TWAW. They're the ones who ignore facts, science and fairness in favour of promoting cheating while calling it inclusion. And they're the ones who've threatened and coerced women into silence - want a career in sport and funding - then shut up about the male colonisation of women's sport. Only silent compliant women may participate.

EsmaCannonball · 01/05/2023 21:10

When three biological males won the 800m medals at the Olympics the women who complained of unfairly missing out on medals were absolutely monstered for being bitter mediocrities, sore losers, crying 'white women's tears,' and being nasty, bigoted racists. (Never mind that the three women who'd lost their chance to compete at the Olympics were almost certainly black.) In certain loud quarters there was utter glee at being able to treat women like shit and then call them hateful bitches if they even dared to speak up. It was horrible to see.

Sporting bodies should be the ones making a stand. They shouldn't be putting women in a position where their careers and reputations are ruined for pointing out observable material reality.

ControversialOpening · 01/05/2023 20:52

I agree that men should be helping, but once again it would take solid agreement from a large number - if a single male competitor drops out it achieves little.

If a single GC man wanted to help he could do something like the power lifter from a few weeks ago: ‘identify as a woman’, enter the race and if he won - which is likely, though nothing is certain in cycle racing - he could give the medal and prize money to the first female finisher.

OldCrone · 01/05/2023 20:02

All women should make a stand and refuse to race male cheats dressed as woman.

And men should stand in solidarity with women and refuse to race in the male event if there are male cheats in the women's event.

This is a problem caused by males which is having an adverse effect on women. Other men need to step up and help. They can show how welcoming they are to 'transwomen' in the men's event.

caringcarer · 01/05/2023 19:54

How many more entitled males will steal prize money from women's sport before Cycling Wakes up and makes biological males race against other males? It is sickening and killing off Women's Sport. Trans people could have a category of their own not barge their way into Woman's category. I'd refuse to race if a male was in my race. All women should make a stand and refuse to race male cheats dressed as woman.

WarningToTheCurious · 01/05/2023 19:51

I really hope the monitors are looking in.

From the 2022 YouGov survey on trans rights attitudes:

The public are strongly opposed to trans women athletes participating in women’s sporting events, by 61% versus just 16% who are supportive.

And it’s only going one way.

Looking at our favourite cycling MN plopper on Twitter, apparently us women have no interest in cycling and are also too stupid to understand that in cycling GC stands for General Classification, so we’re getting all furious about nothing.

I think some people live in their own little woke bubbles and don’t have a fucking clue just how much women (and plenty of men) are getting more and more furious about males taking women’s opportunities, victories and prize money.

It’ll be her that’s reporting all these posts too 🙄

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 01/05/2023 19:33

GrannieD that's so bad, how dare a man claim a woman's place. It doesn't matter if it is Parkrun or the Olympics, it is cheating and stealing.

I hope you get to read this before MN inevitably delete it.
