As some one who recently working in Education…

I find this deeply disturbing: see the section on Transgender.

https://www.gov.uk/request-copy-criminal-record

Extract:
“Transgender applicationsContact the DBS transgender applications team if you’re a transgender applicant and you do not want to reveal details of your previous identity to a potential employer.”

The ability of anyone to ‘hide their past’ as part of an application to with young and vulnerable people, is an unnecessary risk.

Request a basic DBS check

How to apply for a basic DBS check to get a copy of your criminal record, and what you must provide. It costs £18.

And Whitefires search shows that the police records in the former name won't show on a DBS check. What could possibly go wrong?

Google is free.

But officers are not allowed to ask a detainee if they have a GRC, so how will they know (apparently it is impossible to tell a TW apart from a woman)

Also, the police can and the police will are two different things so your google search doesn't fill me with confidence

WhiteFire · 26/04/2023 18:30

And individuals who don't have a GRC?

So if you apply for a DBS in your new name, with new ID documents showing your new name and neglect to tell the DBS when asked about any former name, they can magically link you to crimes committed in your former name?

How do they do that?

Google is free.

Can you read or not?

CHANGING YOUR NAME OR GENDER DOESN'T MEAN YOUR CRIMES ARE SCRUBBED. THEY STAY WITH YOU. YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THOSE CRIMES.

Did that help?

They will only be linked if the individual rings the special helpline to provide their previous name, this isn't about paying for their crimes it is about safeguarding children and vulnerable people. It is a massive loophole.

Did that help?

Yes, because not "deadnaming" criminals is what's important here.

Won't someone think of the paedophiles?????

Waitwhat23 · 26/04/2023 16:04

From the KPSS report linked by a pp -

'The DBS grants enhanced privacy rights to those who change their gender when changing their identity. These are exceptional rights that are only granted to individuals in this group. The result is that identify verification is compromised, meaning there is no guarantee that the information returned during the check and displayed on the certificate will be accurate or complete'.

No, it doesn't help.

I am objecting to people with special identities getting to opt out of rules which apply to the rest of us, and are there to protect children and vulnerable people.

MargotBamborough · 26/04/2023 15:57

I don't care.

I don't care about the privacy or the special identities of people who have committed horrible crimes.

They should receive exactly the same treatment as people without special identities who have committed horrible crimes.

Your criminal record isn't scrubbed when you change your gender/name. I want what you're smoking!! It's not a get out of jail free card! It means your tax records are sealed with HMRC. That's it. Logic has left this thread completely.

It's not a matter of hiding who they truly are - it's so they can't be deadnamed and doxxed.

Dead naming and doxxing paedophiles and sex offenders seems proportionate to me.
Safeguarding children should be the priority - not the demands of adults who claim to be the opposite sex.

After Ian Huntley murdered Jessica and Holly the previous failings were the basis for the CRB system to be set up.

20 years on, those same failings are back in the guise of progression.

Hagosaurus · 26/04/2023 15:29

Of course the crimes are only recorded against the new identity as long as there’s some reliable mechanism to link the two. Trusting paedophiles to tell the police about their new identity? What could possibly go wrong

Bosky · 26/04/2023 14:28

They can hide the "identity" under which previous crimes were committed but not the actual crimes. Previous crimes will be recorded under the new "identity".

There are still HUGE problems with this though. See KPSS report on DBS:
