What does aligning with mean exactly?

Surely everyone who is on twitter 'aligns' with Elon Musk otherwise they'd have left?

Hitler believed the world was round Sad

A lot of people who believe (or say that they believe) in "gender identity" and advocate for sterilising gay and autistic children hold Hitler and the Nazis in high regard. Unsurprisingly.

Pleased that I don't have Hitler on my "win team". As, I am sure, are you.

And to PP arguing that the OP is wrong because "TERF" is shorthand for a term that includes "Radical Feminist" - lighten up!

Same.

And made me question why I was gc.

SpidersAreShitheads · 26/04/2023 12:59

I think this actually raises a really interesting point.

The world seems to have become split into this binary - you must be either all good, or all bad.

If someone holds one view which doesn't align with your own then they must be a Bad Person and therefore The Enemy. We saw this with Brexit, and now again with gender. It's certainly the case with politics.

There are of course a few rare exceptions, there is the occasional person who is genuinely odious all round.

But as a general point, one particular opinion doesn't determine whether an individual is "good" or "bad" - and yet that's the narrative that's developed over recent years. Humans are so much more nuanced than this.

Of course people you don’t otherwise agree with will agree that sterilising children is wrong. The question is why any people, especially those you know expect to agree with, consider it can be right.

This!

The purity spiral over the belief that you cannot change sex is getting tiresome at this point. Those of us who are in this fight for our own rights and those of our mothers, aunts, daughters and granddaughters, are not going to waste time policing the views if every ally - we need laws changed, we need minds changed. We need allies of all political hue and none

The fact that my GC views align with some loathsome people (from Trump supporters, to Tories and now Elon Musk) makes me sad.

Me too.

They're not really views, on the whole though. They're just facts. All kinds of people, all types and ideolgies, tend to agree on basic facts.

It's not weird that people from all walks of life agree that transwomen are men. Because they simply are. Likewise its not weird that all sorts of people are against medically castrating or surgically deforming children. It's kind of the default for humans to not do those things.

RoyalCorgi · 26/04/2023 08:11

You don't have to like Elon Musk. I don't, particularly. But let's be honest, everyone who isn't a complete fucking loon understands that humans can't change sex. Everyone who has any kind of moral compass at all understands that you shouldn't put children on harmful puberty blockers that could cause them lifelong damage. The really astonishing thing is that there are people who claim to believe that humans can change sex and puberty blockers are fine, presumably because they are too stupid or cowardly to defy the current progressive orthodoxy.

Not sure Elon Musk on your team is a win. I would hazard it’s more of a comment against it

Oh yes definitely.
Now that someone who isn’t morally pure has said that sterilisation for kids is bad then we must send all our kids on the path of sex reassignment surgery, whether they bloody like it or not!
Because if we don’t then we can’t polish our little self righteous halos and tell everyone how virtuous we are?

do You disagree with the point he made “sterilizing children is bad”? Because for me “sterilizing children is OK” is reprehensible.

He has been for a while I think.

He has good bits and bad bits. You know, like a human...

But it is definitely good for GC feminism that the owner and controller of twitter doesn't think "stop sterilising and mutilating kids because rainbows" is hateful. It means we can speak.

He is also a powerful, rich, influential man. He has reach. That is important.

SmartHome · 25/04/2023 22:33

I think EM comes across as surprisingly normal and I quite like him on twitter. I don't really get the hate. He's already made twitter a far less toxic place by removing most of the terrible censorship around GC viewpoints.

Laladybird · 25/04/2023 22:24

Not keen on EM but relieved that he sacked all the woke moderators on Twitter and has allowed open debate.

He's got all these children but I don't think any of them were fathered in the traditional manner. Odd.

If her request for female carers is denied. Could she be left with carers like this?

And his father thinks the exact opposite; and has no qualms in announcing it to all and sundry.

The fact that my GC views align with some loathsome people (from Trump supporters, to Tories and now Elon Musk) makes me sad.

But there are people like Rosie Duffield too! Proudly on the left and speaking up for women’s rights.

I went down a bit of a Twitter rabbit hole tonight - de-transitioner posts. I can’t believe these children were allowed to make such radical decisions.

And then I saw a post Rosie shared from a disabled woman wanting her carers to be female because of the intimate care she needed. Don’t her rights matter?

I agree with this entirely.

I find Elon Musk to be a fascinating, intriguing human - a rich man who isn't afraid to do things differently. And having someone with that degree of power advocating for science and fact isn't a bad thing.

I don't agree with him on everything, but that's OK. I don't think he's a total arse, nor completely bad.

I do think the fact that he's autistic means that he sometimes communicates in a way that other people find awkward or uncomfortable. Or holds views that don't jibe well with popular consensus. I think sometimes this is what contributes to people's dislike of him.

(For transparency, I'm also autistic)

Donald Trump - I find it very difficult to find anything positive to say about the man. That's not the case with Elon - I disagree with him vehemently on some points but agree entirely on others. I don't think he's inherently a "bad" person unlike the aforementioned ex-President.

JacquelinePot · 25/04/2023 21:37

And for clarity, not calling people here 'tools', I'm talking about politicians and celebrities

JacquelinePot · 25/04/2023 21:34

*I want, not infant ffs

JacquelinePot · 25/04/2023 21:33

I find it really weird when people say "I'm disappointed that x person agrees that humans can't change sex/sterilising kids is wrong/men shouldn't be in women's prisons". Infant EVERYONE to believe that stuff because its all objectively true.

My disappointment is reserved for all the unthinking, virtue signalling tools who argue otherwise.

It's a win in terms of Twitter censorship.

Trans-activists must hate that they can't get their opponents silenced as much.
