Mess event cancelled?

ILikeDungs · 15/04/2023 16:17

Just received an email from IEPro:

Dear customers,
We do apologise but this event has been cancelled. All tickets will be refunded.

Thank you.

But I couldn't find an explanation anywhere. Anyone know?

Mess event cancelled?

He might as well have added please report so I can be suspended again

absolutely

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 17/04/2023 08:18

I agree with you, that was a really stupid form of words for Glinner to choose. He might as well have added please report so I can be suspended again. I see he's back now, though. Good.

I thought it worth posting this here so that there was a record of it should the question ever come up again re "what was the context of the second Glinner ban?".

Here is the copy of the thread (scroll down to the 5th tweet for screen shots):

https://twitter.com/d_lawrence89/status/1645161797282873348?t=RIlxB71VBCrRnnwVMby_0A&s=19

And, in case they get removed, here are the screen shots from that tweet:

Joke or not, I do think Glinner's choice of words was a mistake. Anyone (probably most people) who hadn't seen the full context could easily have read it as actual incitement to kill. In this respect, Twitter did exactly the right thing in suspending him IMO. It's the only thing they could do in any situation where someone's (legitimate or otherwise) defence is that they were being sarcastic.

It's only obvious to anyone with the full context of everything that it was indeed sarcastic. He's an amazing, if somewhat foul-mouthed, advocate for women's rights and this was a daft own goal in many ways. I'm sure he'll bounce back

@MerlinsLostMarbles I'm not convinced on your time travel/quantum reality theory i.e. that his show was cancelled prior to this tweet (which it was) and also as a result of this tweet.

"obviously a joke"

The people he was targeting (LGBT+allies planning to attend KJK's event to protest) may not see it as a joke.

Meanwhile someone else on the same day says something along the lines of "let's give KJK a big NZ welcome in Belfast"(which really is obvs a joke) and several dozen gender critical people lose their minds over it.

Nobody can be this stupid. A woman in her 70s sustained a serious head injury after being attacked at that event. It's a miracle nobody was crushed. The police stood back and did nothing. There was nothing remotely amusing about what happened on that day and I'm amazed you have the gall to pretend it was all done for amusement.

Rubbish, that message from Whittle is obviously not a joke, there’s literally a picture of KJK after she was attacked attached to the tweet.
Context is everything, and given the context of both tweets, I know (and everyone else can see) that Whittle’s is serious and Glinner’s isn’t.

Do you go through your offline life being so obtuse?

RufustheSpeculatingreindeer · 16/04/2023 11:27

D) have you rung the police yet?

I’m going with no as you know its not an actual threat

A) not gender critical
B) not losing my mind
C) obviously not a joke

The barrel you’re scraping must surely be bare by now. I saw the tweet that caused the ban you are talking about, it was a reply to a previous tweet and reply. It was so obviously a joke that anyone who thinks he’ll be facing criminal charges really is living in cloud cuckoo land.

*threat, not thread.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/04/2023 11:11

Perils of using automated moderation. A human can easily tell from context what's a real thread and what's not. A bot can't. The Whittle tweet about a NZ welcome has apparently been removed - don't know if it was deleted by Twitter or Whittle - but that was blindingly obviously an incitement to violence and stood for hours. However, there were no words in the tweet that the bot would have recognised. It needed a human to read the background to the pictures attached to the tweet. (If Whittle didn't know their full significance Whittle is a fool, as I've often suspected.) I don't know the background to Glinner's tweet so can't comment on that, but it's clear there are dozens of TRAs poised to report anything they think the bots will accept as breaching guidelines.

At least the second thread this person has tried to derail by talking about this non-event on Twitter. Best ignored?

so you rang the police then….what did they say?

ILikeDungs · 16/04/2023 09:18

I was looking forward to this, was going to attend with my DS's GF who is thoroughly fed up and wants to learn more and get involved.

I smiled though when I saw the TRA post. So predictable. Feels desperate, and rattled.

So you are saying an event was cancelled before Graham responded to someone threatening to kill women, by summarising their threat, and that got him banned and because he summarised a threat, and yet he is the one to face criminal charges? And all this happened AFTER the event was cancelled but it is the reason it was cancelled?

Make anything you write make sense please.
