It’s funny how there’s so much criticism of toxic positivity until it’s Dylan and suddenly it’s she’s so positive and cute! Feminists have been critiquing forever the culture that makes women perform happiness at the expense of our own feelings and humanity. Being “positive” all the time isn’t good - it teaches women we don’t deserve feelings, we should just smile through life instead of fighting for change, we should please and appease people we shouldn’t express anger, and it provides a false image that harms other women (who then are made to feel crazy and wrong when they have negative feelings.)
Dylan’s “tee hee” personality isn’t just marketing for products, it’s marketing empty and oppressive emotions to young girls that actively harm them while promoting ED and bad eating habits, consumerism, inauthenticity (sold ironically as authenticity but Dylan is never honest) and promises to young women to be vapid, soulless, and shallow and transactional with relationships.
notice how dylan has gone to ground with the Bud Light thing - when women were outraged about Ulta it was all passive aggressive threats to ruin lives and fake tears. Now it’s white conservative men Dylan has nothing to say - the rage and seething is just for women.
