A Californian mother talks about dealing with a daughter caught up in the ideology

@DocStrangelove "conversion therapy" is an interesting phrase.

Is it possible to distinguish between the conversion therapy of telling a child they are possibly a different gender (because they are more GI Joe than Barbie) from the conversion therapy of telling a child that they are possibly in the right body yet confused about what gender is? Surely both or neither are examples of conversion therapy. It can't just be one of them.

It's useful to have the background about the platform but TBH I would just apply the same critical thinking as I've done on all the of this stuff. It saddens me that most of the information that I find helpful is in media and platforms that I would never imagine myself reading/listening to but I've also learned a lot about myself in that respect. In a good way. Never did I imagine listening to Piers Morgan, reading the Daily Mail and so on.. but yet I have. That doesn't mean I'll agree with everything that they say.

With the interviewee being a Democrat, I'd hazard a guess that it wouldn't be her platform of choice. Perhaps she even agreed her boundaries in advance. Either way, well done her for sharing her message so that other parents can listen to it.

Yes I listened to the interview and familiar with Friday's activism. Listening to her narrate a story of conversion therapy I would be interesting in hearing from the child before drawing a conclusion. It sounds similar to many stories about children/teenagers prevented from transitioning who felt coerced including many individuals I know/have known.

As Helle says though DocStrangelove what do you have to say about what she says rather than the platform she says it on? Your comments upthread suggest you think she is either not being honest or has spun her story in some way?

Having listened to it I thought it bears many similarities to the stories of detransitioners and their parents we have heard before, including from parents on this board.

Has anyone listened to the woman speak and are you addressing her points?

As an organization they have presented information in a highly misleading way in order to further their political agenda. Why would you assume they are not doing the same in this instance?

Heritage foundation is vile - but WHY aren't any "normal " groups speaking out? Why do I have to listen to ridiculous American organisations to hear these stories?

Oh FFS!!! You have linked to a platform that highlights a range of voices, including voices that many people disagree about abortion, but highlight other voices on other topics that we might agree with.

I have listened . I would like any people who finds the platform repulsive to address the issues raised by the mother. Do you find what she says repulsive?

Is there a reason we should not encourage people to hear her voice? Or is her voice forever to be scorned because of the platform who hosted her voice?

FFS @Coyoacan didnt you check the credentials of this organisation to make sure they are sufficiently pure before deciding whether this woman should be allowed to share her story? 🙄

So someone’s experiences are not valid because of the platform that shared it? Are you saying this woman is lying about her experiences because the group has other views that you (and for the record I) think are wrong?

If we only ever listened to people who had the same experiences as our own or only took our information from approved media sources we’d all end up in echo chamber, purity spiral driven triablism.

Oh, wait…

I might hesitate to share information from a group that also bankrolling/promoting criminalizing abortion and is doing so by spreading misinformation about common forms of birth control, the negligible risk of medication abortion, and ectopic pregnancies.
