Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I remember being 11. I thought I was the big I am and knew everything about everything. I thought I knew what I wanted from life!

I was wrong!

On all counts.

I have a video of my now 8 year old son dancing along to “the greatest showman” at 4 in the only dress up gear we had in the house - his sister’s clothes (and she was massively into Disney at the time). He did have a plastic golf club for his cane.

Why do we feel the need to pigeon hole children? He’s now 8 and a “mini rocker” playing the drums and wants to be a DJ. My daughter who was the Disney Princess is now a footballer and wannabe zombie film maker.

And 4 years from now that all could change again - and this is what is dangerous. Why can’t we let kids just “grow”?

At that age my DS was very keen to grow up so he could grow a baby in his tummy and feed it milkies (breastfeed). He was genuinely devastated when I told him that wouldn't be happening because he would grow up to be a man and men can't do that. He actually asked me if there was any way a boy could grow up to be a woman because he'd like to do that if it meant he could grow a baby. This was a few years before I peaked but I still explained to him that while there were boys who grow up to feel like they should be a woman. They could only make themselves look more like a women but couldn't change biologically, so still couldn't get pregnant or breastfeed.

At that age he also had a baby doll that he took care of and pushed in a pram, a play kitchen that he enjoyed 'cooking' at and got very into Barbie and My Little Pony. He had long hair that he was very happy with and would occasionally choose an Elsa dress if he was playing dress up. So there are definitely some parents who would have taken that as a cue to start transitioning him. When they only thing he needed was for me to explain that while he'd never get pregnant or be a mummy, men still have to provide an ingredient for a woman to grow a baby and that makes them the baby's daddy. Even when a child fixates on really wanting to do one of the few things that their sex will actually prevent them from doing, it's still possible to gently bring them around to accepting reality.

Try a Quorn sausage.

Or two if you can only find the cocktail ones.

Watch that episode of “Friends” where Joe needs a foreskin for a part and Monica fashions various ones!

raspberrywine · 12/04/2023 15:43

Daniel Radcliffe is involved with the Trevor Project in the US, isn't he? They have an online chat forum type thing for children. I remember Gays against Groomers wrote a piece on the organisation. It sounds like a lapse in safeguarding practices similar to Mermaids.

DR comes across as quite dim.

Apologies if it's already been said but - the more I see of Radcliffe the more sympathy I feel for Mr and Mrs Dursley.

They knew he was a wrong un.

😁I love Harry in the actual books, but if he had been anything like Harry in the films, or the gormless and untalented "actor" who played him, I'd have been all for the Dursleys padlocking him into his cupboard under the stairs and never letting him out again

WinterTrees · 12/04/2023 15:00

Thanks for the video link OldCrone. I haven't got time to watch it all now, but I saw the first couple of minutes and what strikes me in Daniel Radcliffe's introduction piece to camera is his palpable air of desperation to be liked. It's stamped on his face (the wide eyes and perma-raised eyebrows) and comes across clearly in his tone and his body language.

I remember noticing the same thing with Emma Watson in that cringey interview she did with Paris Lees. I wonder if it's partly a result of being child stars, and the people-pleasing tendencies that situation must massively overdevelop. Also an awareness of their own privilege, which makes them frantically apologetic and keen to abase themselves and make space for 'the most marginalised ever.' Except that they have been brought up in such a bubble that the people they think are the most marginalised ever are those who have enough of a voice and a profile to push themselves forward and demand attention, which means the genuinely marginalised are so off the radar of people like Radcliffe and Watson they may as well exist on another planet.

I think becoming a parent is going to be interesting and challenging for Radcliffe. Before we have babies we all like to think we'll be that cool parent who is mates with their kids, but it doesn't take long for reality to dawn and stuff about boundaries, saying no and being the unpopular adult starts to make sense.

Sure if that’s what actually happened. I find it more likely that the daily fail did their job of twisting it very nicely.

Well there’s a video, so watch it and make up your own mind.

Jumpersaurus · 12/04/2023 14:52

I wonder would he put as much trust in an 11-year-old picking out a face tattoo? And if not, why not?

I cannot wait for them to make the Harry Potter series with a new Harry. Once that's done you'll no-longer be Harry Potter Daniel, and no-one will care what you think.

You can watch the whole video here:

The quote from Daley is at about 4:30. Radcliffe's response is exactly as quoted by the Daily Mail.

If you want to know what was actually said you can watch the whole thing. It's only about 20 mins long.

I think he genuinely believes that he’s preventing those kids doing something rash. He’s being held hostage by the threat of some of their alleged intentions - like many parents are. It’s not easy being a parent and holding firm in the face of a seriously depressed child threatening to ‘do something’ unless they’re provided with their requested hormones, surgeries etc… a horrible place to be for all parties. We all know that affirming your child is initially easier but we don’t get to just do to the ‘easy’ stuff as parents - it’s often a long term-investment of love with no immediate reward.

ScrollingLeaves This would have been around 2016, so I guess it was just as transactivism was just starting to ramp up…….

Thank you very much for your answer @Wandering. I am always interested to hear the details of how parents like you get it right and how children like your DS calmly hold their own.

His gf is pregnant with first baby, perhaps when he becomes a parent he will cease pushing wokery on innocent children. Fgs what 20yo knows who they are?!

He is beyond privileged.

Also bad form that Erin Darke is being called a trans woman online (apparently) just because she is big boned and tall, and going out with the very tiny and petite Daniel Radcliffe. Shame on him for bringing all this to her door when she should be enjoying her pregnancy in peace. But then he hasn’t bothered to marry her either so what can you expect!

I've seen a lot of misogynist comments made towards Erin Darke on Twitter, including suggestions she must be trans based on judgements on her appearance.

I can't see what she's done to deserve this, other than be partners with someone who has voiced views that Gender Critical people may disagree with.

And I thought people "can always tell" what sex someone else? So do people really need to be asking if a pregnant woman is trans?

It’s this part that drives me mad;
He was told at the round table by 11-year-old trans girl, Daley: 'I learned out of the cradle that I was a boy: "I should like blue, I should like sports, I should be manly, I should like superheroes".'
As Radcliffe nodded, she continued: 'And I never associated myself with those things and we are told that we are not old enough to know this yet. I am only 11-years-old, how do I know I'm a girl? And I need more time to think about this.'

Daley should be helped to see that you don’t have to like blue, sports or superheroes to be a man, not told that that makes a girl, JFC, the absolute regressive nests of the trans ideology drives me mad!
But no, Daniel bloody Radcliffe just nods along like an absolute dick and advocates for sterilisation and mutilation of kids who don’t conform, way to go! What a shame none of the integrity of the HP books rubbed off on him.

Sure if that’s what actually happened. I find it more likely that the daily fail did their job of twisting it very nicely.

Daniel Radcliffe is a silly little twerp who knows fuck all about children.

Does he believe children should smoke, take drugs, not go to school, have sex at 12? Is it only changing their biology that he thinks kids know best about? Or what?

Exactly!
Why don’t we let 11 year olds drive themselves to get facial tattoos before they head off to get married? I mean, they know what they want

viques · 12/04/2023 13:23

CountZacular · 12/04/2023 08:48

Daley added: 'I don't understand why I can't just decide that I'm a girl. If it's a big decision to decide I'm a girl, it's a big decision to decide I'm a boy.'

This child is 11. Surely their parents would have told them when they can’t just decide they are a girl/ aged 25/ different race/ a dog/ born into an incredibly wealthy family/ a child prodigy.

We learn, from guidance of our parents and other adults around us that the circumstances of our birth, our genetics and our heritage are unchangeable. There would be no kindness is telling a child they could just decide to be any of those things as it’s not physically possible.

It’s so galling to hear a feckless adult nod along to fantasy rather than show real kindness and be honestly with children. Especially when we know what the consequences are.

The sad truth is that if in their quest to decide what “gender” they are Daley takes hormones then Daley will end up in the limbo of being a person who can neither fulfill the genetic function of a man or that of a woman. There are going to be some very distressed people in ten or twenty years time as the realisation of what their parents and doctors let them do to their bodies sinks in.

userlotsanumbers · 12/04/2023 13:18

What does he think about the belief that the brain is only fully developed at age 25? Any decision making before that may not be entirely well considered, but let's trust it without question, yes?
