I believe that this is one of Glinner’s few sources of income. I don’t think he gets any money from Ted on C4.

Sorry if I’m being a bit thick (and there is a whole other back story to this) but why doesn’t Glinner get royalties from Motherland or Blackbooks?

I think, but I might well be wrong, that it depends on the deal he has with the distributor. So the chances are he got paid a one off fee to have Black Books on channel 4 and they could show it until the end of time and not give him another penny.

It’s the same deal with actors, you often get the choice to either get a one off fee or a percentage. If you think the thing you’ve just made won’t be popular you take the fee, if you know it’s going to do well you take a percentage. A friend of my parents was a main character in a couple of often repeated shows. He was an established actor so took a percentage. The reruns of the shows pay all his bills.

It's not shit!

Which is said far too often in my house.

Glinner pops up a few times in it, he's the chappie that sells Douglas the rohypnol

He's also the singer in the restaurant mariachi band. Everybody here is having fun fun fun.

This is my current earworm so singing it to my baby. He enjoys it!

Glinner is a genius.

The IT Crowd is my go to when I need to laugh. And it just doesn’t disappoint. Ever.

That and Mrs Doyle with Pat Mustard.

JoodyBlue · 26/04/2023 17:52

Glinner really is a comedy legend. My all time fave (of many many) is when Jen gets Employee of the Month and she says:

no need to put me on a pedal stool or anything....

a what?

a pedal stool

Use this in my house all the time, along with quotes from Lord of the Rings!! :) The simplest, silliest, funniest, wit.

This is what we are all missing out on now. The genius of Glinner.

Ohyoudodoyou · 26/04/2023 17:48

Never seen it so will add to my 'happy stuff to watch' list as I absolutely love 'Father Ted'
I also love 'Black Books'and my favourite ever episode
Is 'he's leaving home' with Omid, just quality.
Big fan of 'league of gentlemen' too, that is my all time favourite.
What's funny these days, what are people watching? Nothing makes me smile these days and I love a good laugh!

Yes they must have renewed it. Never saw it before, don't know why I missed it. Last night I watched series 3, ep 4, where Douglas (? Matt Berry) dates the transwoman, and the internet is in a box. Grin That's the one missing from Channel 4.

Already knew and loved Father Ted, and after that, I was going to try Count Arthur Strong, what else was he involved in?

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 26/04/2023 13:08

It's still on there!! 😊

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 17/04/2023 19:57

And now we're rewatching the one where Jen can't speak Italian - and the Italian guy can't speak Italian either which just makes it funnier. 😂

summersanchez · 17/04/2023 19:16

Fiftyisthenewsixty · 17/04/2023 07:26

Just remembered Jen's boyfriend who looks like a magician. 😂

🤣

Oh no! I didn't realise it was going off Netflix! It's one of our go-to shows. It's our favourite show to quote.

"You're my wife, Roy! You're my wife!"
"If anything i'm the husband!"

"But I thought you were deeeeeaaaaadd!"

"He kissed me on my bottom" (in a terrible Irish accent)

And "oh goddddddddd" from the transgender episode.

summersanchez · 17/04/2023 05:53

Argh. Shame. I often watch this series. It's hands down the funniest sit com ever imo.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/04/2023 05:46

"Mmmm, these sex pants!"

"Hahahahahahahahaha, yes!!!!!!!! But what DOES 'IT' stand for?!"

"Go on, ask me which mobile I have!"
"Which mobile do you have, Jen?"
"It doesn't matter!"

Animalsoffartingwood · 17/04/2023 05:16

Other people, what an absolute bunch of bastards to be fair, this is my mantra. Though I am emotionally artistic.

Mombie · 16/04/2023 23:52

i love the IT crowd, when Moss is acting like one half of an old married couple in The Dinner Party, the German cannibal episode, street countdown, Jen as a Russian peasant and that fight scene in the ‘I’m from Iran episode.’
so much underrated comedy gold!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 16/04/2023 23:45

Glinner is in the Mexican restaurant band too “Everyone is having lots of fun fun fun, Cos everyone is nice, and everyone is friendly…” with Jens angry date.

”Other people, what an absolute bunch of bastards”

”Ich bin ein Nerd!”

”FAAARTHER!”

”Are you feeling stressed yet Jen?”

”Stop telling people you slept with me, you BASTARD”

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/04/2023 23:18

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Animalsoffartingwood · 16/04/2023 23:17

Or was it just shoddy, shoddy workmanship?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/04/2023 23:15

You know it's good comedy when you're giggling at one or two words.

To momentarily sidestep to another Glinner classic, I can't even hear somebody saying such a common, everyday word as 'drink', without wanting to shout it Father-Jack-style!!

We saw an episode of Bargain Hunt today and there was a decorative armchair with quite a degree of damage to the ends of the arms, instantly recognisable to Ted-fans as 'worried' Grin

Animalsoffartingwood · 16/04/2023 23:07

I recently discovered the Easter Egg of Glinner in a cameo role in the internet episode. Love finding new details in these things.

Phrases parroted in our house for various reasons.

The SHHOEESS!

I'm never going to stop CRYING!

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Damp squid.

You know it's good comedy when you're giggling at one or two words.
