Matt Walsh stumps a trans EMT:

"A trans EMT tried to use his medical training to prove that sex is not binary. He ran into trouble when I asked him how he’d respond to a patient with a penis who claims he’s having a miscarriage." https://twitter.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1643450523235028995?cxt=HHwWhsDUteTi2s4tAAAA

"Pricking the balloon of the first cohort is satisfying, but not so much with the second."

But if anything more necessary

namitynamechange · 06/04/2023 13:03

@Datun You can feel galled that a woman saying the same things the same way might not be received as favourably (and likely wouldn't be able to have the same calm discussion with trans women) AND glad that that being the case at least Matt Walsh is able to do so. That's how I feel anyway and its quite a complicated place to be.

oldwomanwhoruns · 06/04/2023 12:48

@Datun , they were not actually 'sharing a platform' with Matt Walsh. He gave a talk (I've shared a link to the full talk upthread). And then they had a q&a session at the end. So these were just randoms from the audience

Presumably these gentlemen had the confidence that their arguments were winners! Other activists did a lot of heckling.

I've been watching Mr Walsh since his Dr Phil interview ages back - worth a watch if you've not seen it. It was Mr W against a whole platform of genderists, and a studio audience against him, too. He kept his cool.

WickedSerious · 06/04/2023 12:04

I'd definitely smother him in his sleep if he lived with me but he's bang on when it comes to this trans shite.

Datun · 06/04/2023 11:52

I've got mixed feelings about these clips.

Also, how has he got these people onto this platform with him? As far as I was aware, it's really quite hard to get trans people into a position where they will answer questions. Precisely because they look so stupid when challenged.

He's got total conviction when he speaks, which is persuasive. But I imagined a woman speaking in exactly the same way, and there is no way she would be received, or viewed, as anything other than someone to be massively criticised and discredited. And very likely jealous or bitter if she said the same thing as he does about them never being a real woman.

I realise, this is just sexism, but it still galling to watch it in action.

The other thing is, these people are so bloody easy to puncture. Their fragility shimmers around them like a heat haze. I know that's no reason not to do it and he does it spectacularly well. His obvious enjoyment and glee at doing it is difficult to miss tho.

I don't feel the same way when I see women having a go. Women's personal investment seems to make the motivation come across differently.

On the other hand, there is a really potent and grim satisfaction in watching their arguments immediately go up in a puff of smoke. Even though you know they're going to, even though you know they will fall apart instantly.

I don't know if there's more to the clip where he says they are being used. Where he absolutely nailed home how they will never be the opposite sex, that they will come to regret it, and the people supporting them now, will be no-where when that happens.

Because, again, we are talking about two different cohorts. Those men who are soaked in sissy porn and those young people who are alienated from their own sex for reasons completely unrelated to porn and sexuality.

Pricking the balloon of the first cohort is satisfying, but not so much with the second.

AlisonDonut · 06/04/2023 11:14

I think we can take it as read that people know that Matt Walsh's other views are questionable. That's the point of the OP saying the first words in the title of the read. Do we really have to fill it up with other things he said to prove her point?

namitynamechange · 06/04/2023 11:05

@RoyalCorgi I agree with him on this issue. And actually I think his technique of confronting it head on, not pussyfooting around the issue (and he's been criticised by other conservatives for that) is 100% correct. He is good at being calm and debating and comes across very well in this issue because the central point of his argument is so obviously the truth. He comes across as much less persuasive when arguing about gay marriage with Joe Rogan for example because actually his arguments there are much less persuasive.
All of it is the best advert for clear, calm debate as there could be

RoyalCorgi · 06/04/2023 10:50

It pains me to say it, but everything I've seen of Matt Walsh talking about this issue has impressed me. He hasn't been mocking or angry or insulting, he has always been calm, clear and reasonable. If I hadn't been told about the anti-abortion stuff and the Republicanism and all the rest of it, I'd have assumed he was one of us.

namitynamechange · 06/04/2023 10:06

He's said some creepy stuff in the past:
But that doesn't mean that he is wrong in his arguments against the foolishness of transgender stuff. Its also really stupid that people on the left can immediately see what is wrong with young girls being pressured into early pregnancy/marriage and then they KNOW that it is the girls who are getting pregnant and have no problem drawing the connection between. But the rest of the time no-one can tell what makes a man a man and a woman a woman or who has the babies.
Also the fact that Matt Walsh being a hypocrite also makes them hypocrites.

There's no way that transwoman is an EMT or anything. They like to lie about that to somehow make out like their delusions they spout about biology have more weight.

Well they may well be but that's the problem when you favour identity and personal truths over facts. Not a single word you say can be trusted or taken at face value.

YouJustDoYou · 06/04/2023 09:36

There's no way that transwoman is an EMT or anything. They like to lie about that to somehow make out like their delusions they spout about biology have more weight.

I also don't agree that they were "brave" to speak up - these people are so arrogant, so honestly convinced they are right and that just by speaking they can make people like Matt Walsh look silly/show everyone just how correct they are, they simply can't think ahead enough to see just a tiny ounce of logic will completely shred their "argument" to tiny pieces.

Backstreets · 06/04/2023 07:51

I could honestly scream with frustration that the left has staunchly taken the anti reality position on this. Right wingers effortlessly get to look like sane, smart, measured realists to anyone with two eyes in their head.

I’m a life long lefty, yet here I am, nodding along with Matt wash clips and Brendan O’Neill columns (he’s admittedly more of a libertarian but still the kind of rent-a-gob I used to scorn) and saying, won’t somebody think of the children! unironically.

No sympathy from me either for the EMT worker nor the linebacker, but good on them for showing up and giving their arguments, and for the audience for behaving respectfully. We need public debate if this bollocks is ever going to fade away.

It’s not just that the left agrees with gender ideology shit though, it’s their creation.

Which is why the left wing gender critical people being sniffy about how KJK is “allied with” and Matt Walsh actually is <gasp> right wing is self-defeating, IMO.

Who are these ideological purists waiting for? The left wing groups to change their minds? It hasn’t happened yet.

"They seem to be muddling up the fact that primary and secondary sexual characteristics vary in appearance (breasts range from cup size AA to K, penises from micro to porno, some men can barely manage a goatee let alone a full Captain Birdseye Beard) with sex itself (two types of gonads, two types of gametes, two types of genitals and an entire body arranged around that reproductive system, eg women having more body fat and a wider pelvis).

I blame Mermaids and the GenderBread Man and that sodding unicorn."

I am trying to figure out what is at the root of it and I'm not convinced we have yet worked out the cause. Scientifically, I think the error is in thinking that all these disparate effects of sex (breast size, interior reproductive organs, height, shoulder span, etc) can be somehow summed onto one axis. In that model, ok, you can use estrogen to cause breast to grow, or you can use mastectomy to remove breasts, and can thus create the appearance of the desired sex. In reality, sex is along one of two pathways (male or female) that affects you throughout development. Some features are not affected by the pathway (hair color probably a good example). Some individual downstream features can be modified at one particular time, whether by surgery or hormones. Developmental disorders, illness, and perhaps some environmental factors, can affect the pathway at various point in development. But the pathway itself will continue to affect each cell of the body in a way that is governed by the person's sex.

Before having children, I was a 34B. Since having them, Ive been a 34F/G.

Does that mean I'm more of a woman now than I was before? When I go through the menopause, do I stop being a woman? When my mother had a single mastectomy, was she a woman on the right side of her body but a man on the left? My mother's friend, who was infertile (and so was one of their favourite - not all women can get pregnant) and adopted 3 children had huge breasts. Was she a woman or not? My sil had secondary infertility. Was she a woman when she conceived her first child but not when she couldn't conceive her second?

Their logic makes no sense.

RoyalCorgi · 06/04/2023 08:59

I care about them. Not the aggressive bile spouting clearly fetish filled ones, but the teens saving for a mastectomy who've been told everyone who disagrees is disrespectful.

Yes, I'm not interested in the Jane Faes and Pip Bunces of the world, but I am deeply worried about teenage girls who have been told their body is all wrong and think the solution is to take testosterone and have a double mastectomy. Many of them have a lifetime of poor health and heartbreak ahead of them - and they have been encouraged in this delusion by adults who should know better.

beastlyslumber · 06/04/2023 08:55

Matt Walsh is so bloody entertaining! He is brilliant at keeping his cool, too. He and Posie are similar characters in those respects (though obviously disagree on lots.)

I like very much his calm, rational arguments and questions to mumbloke and the EMT. But I found his 'i care about you' speech disingenuous to the extreme. MW says he is all about the truth yet on this it is clear he is lying. He isn't doing what he does to save their souls. He is doing it for himself. I may think and believe the trans brigade are delusional, need to face reality, accept their bodies, just as MW says, but I would not be telling them this on a public stage. Just like I would not tell a vaccine hesitant audience they'd been duped and by implication stupid for their ideas. Or tell addicts in an AA/NA audience they are stupid for being addicted and need to face up to the reality of their lives. On a practical level, I wouldn't say this because it wouldn't work. And I would not then lie by saying it was because I cared for them, because I'm not a lair

Richard Dawkins tried truth bombs on the believers. Do you think one single person dropped their religion as the dust cleared from their eyes, or did it in fact entrench them further? At least RD didn't pretend he cared about the believers and was telling them the truth to save them.

So in conclusion, although I agree with all MW arguments and he makes them well, he sends my blood cold. I won't be seeking out more of his videos.

I don't know, I care about them. Not the aggressive bile spouting clearly fetish filled ones, but the teens saving for a mastectomy who've been told everyone who disagrees is disrespectful.

I can't look at people like Elliot Page and be anything other than sad for them.

And Matt Walsh may have friends who are transing the gay away from their little boys. He may not approve of potentially gay little boys, but he clearly doesn't want them castrated.

oldwomanwhoruns · 06/04/2023 08:30

I'm half-day through watching the entire video of his talk. It's interesting that the hall is advised beforehand that disruptors will be removed. And despite this, numerous hecklers do try. He handles their interruptions very well. One can't see if they then shut up or are ejected.

So good to see the TRAs forced to speak in the clear light of day. They look such fools. Well done to New Mexico State University for platforming him.

British universities need to grow a backbone.

I also felt bad for the EMT as the message being presented to them was that scientists believe sex is on a spectrum. I don't understand what scientists are doing here, allowing this falsehood to be propagated...

Well, the thing is that they're not. A very small number of third tier scientists have said it, but none of their colleagues take it seriously.

It's akin to the odd nurse saying that vaccines kill more people than Covid, it's bullshit, propagated by very rare whack jobs.

As for mumbloke, he took an awful long time to answer about which quotes from the podcast resonated with him; as if he had to think something up. If it had affected him so powerfully, you'd have thought that a couple of things would have sprung to mind instantly.

I think "mother superior" was my kind of working title nickname for yer man there.

The Brit in question probably “casts” his “pod” on onlyfans, I wouldn’t have wanted to recount that in public either.

Okay… that makes sense too. I never thought of that. Because I couldn’t work out who it might be that was so convincing and active 3 years ago.

Then I thought, it could be anyone really as this individual didn’t seem very bright at all. The porn connection really does sound even more likely now. Probably involved hypno sissy porn.

I suspect that with the 30 year old porn had a great deal to do with it.

But if anyone here is upset about hearing "their" good arguments or slogans used validly by someone they don't like, then that's a "you" problem.

If you didn't want your arguments and slogans shared and repeated, did you really want to win?

This is a political debate, not a marketing campaign. We're not trying to promote any particular group or individual here - we're trying to change policy.

If you think the "wrong" people are making "your" arguments more prominently, you'll just have to speak louder - benefiting both you and the cause. Attacking them doesn't benefit the cause, and probably won't even help you. (I can think of some recent examples of that.)

I think when you are talking about universal truths that the same, or even just the same kind of arguments, will occur to different people because they fit the logic that upholds that truth.

But yes, if someone else is using a debate point that is a great one (and maybe unique or not) to highlight the weakness of these people’s reasons and the lack of evidence, I expect it will get used by others.

I don’t care that people here have been saying the same things for years.

I care that someone with a platform is carefully, logically and articulately dismantling the trans ideology edifice.

It’s not a competition.

Abso bloody lutely!

And the more different groups and agendas pushing back against this ideology, the wider the pushback, the more successful it will be.

If only left wing academics are allowed to push, then hell we may as well give up now. We actually want people who are 'not like us' objecting as well!

And when Matt Walsh is talking about women not being ordained or teaching in church, then I'll argue against him and call him out as a dinosaur.
