Matt Walsh stumps a trans EMT:

"A trans EMT tried to use his medical training to prove that sex is not binary. He ran into trouble when I asked him how he’d respond to a patient with a penis who claims he’s having a miscarriage." https://twitter.com/MattWalshBlog/status/1643450523235028995?cxt=HHwWhsDUteTi2s4tAAAA

As for the brain structure thing, I have seen some research on this, done with very small samples. It doesn’t threaten my GC position. It seems to me entirely reasonable hypothesis that there may be a biological basis to feelings of gender dysphoria, in at least some people. That doesn’t make someone a woman. This research, as I understand it, is not saying that TW have female brains, but suggesting that they have some similarities in some parts.

The counter argument in the literature is that the differences are due to cultures and lifestyle.

It’s definitely an area of debate.

“Do people of faith believe that atheists are out to literally destroy them? What is it about GI than makes challenge feel so dangerous? Is it that it's a fetish wrapped in MH issues that makes refusal to agree and rational argument so much more threatening? Are they scared and ashamed that we see them for what they are?”

I think this is something to do with the psychological concept of the “false self”. When people create a false self anyone who calls the false self incites panic and rage in the person who have a false self rather than a genuine sense of self. I think that people who have a religious belief don’t have a fragile false self tied up in that belief. So if you question their beliefs it doesn’t feel psychologically threatening. In fact many belief systems prepare their adherents for the fact that not everyone will believe as they do, that others will question them or even mock them for their beliefs. Trans philosophy teaches that only people who want to murder you will not believe the same things that you do and by the nature of the belief system many adherents will have a fragile false sense of self. Being Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu etc does not automatically require the believer to have a “false self” or to validate the false selves of others.

I want to meet a ‘sex is a spectrum’ person in real life as I want to ask them what the resulting humans look like from a coupling of two people who are neither male nor female, and how that reproductive process works.

SinnerBoy · 06/04/2023 16:03

@Datun

I pondered something similar a few days ago, on another one about Matt Walsh. I definitely think that they're not brave enough to go all aggressive against a man.

And the blonde lady was another one who had to think long, to try to concoct answers. She went from knowing loads of trans people, who'd been saved from suicide, by puberty blockers, to only having heard of some.

As for her claim that anthropologists being able to tell that a skeleton was a transw, because their brains develop differently - learned at 16 in an anthropology class! She claimed to know it was true, that she'd literally checked it right before speaking...

Yet couldn't remember a source, which should have been fresh in her mind.

I mean, you can draw whatever conclusion seems most logical.

pickledandpuzzled · 06/04/2023 15:52

I kept expecting both chaps to do a buttergasp.

Notatmine · 06/04/2023 15:50

What gets me is how easily he knocked down their points. They genuinely haven’t thought this through (I knew that already but at the same time it’s so clearly exposed during normal conversation) which kind of shows how much their environment affirms them without challenge. I think also because Matt Walsh is a man there are fewer appeals to emotion

Yes, I always find this startling. Their own arguments just don’t withstand any scrutiny at all. So they clearly have never scrutinized them.

Knowing that anyone, even inadvertently, could burst your carefully curated bubble, must make one nervous.

But I think the reason they are actually scared is because militant transactivists have done a number on them.

Even a hint, of a smidge, of the whiff of a disagreement is met with you just want to kill us, it's genocide, you hate us, you wish we didn't exist, you're a Nazi.

Fear of physical attack is constantly stoked. Look at what the Australian/New Zealand media said about KJK.

Absolute garbage, guaranteed to fan the flames of fear in a deluded bloke utterly reliant on the compliance of everyone around him.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 06/04/2023 15:20

The whole thing relies on guilt tripping

once people refuse it all falls down

Queenofscones · 06/04/2023 15:17

Ah, I get you, Datun. Yes, I see what you're saying — although I would still say that Mr Mum was still sure he was right and wasn't dented by the encounter. He had the confidence of his narcissism to hold him together.

But yes, this does go some way to explain why they are so threatened and are so sure we are out to destroy them — because as you say, five minutes of rational argument and their ideology is in pieces. Is this why they describe themselves as so endangered?

Do people of faith believe that atheists are out to literally destroy them? What is it about GI than makes challenge feel so dangerous? Is it that it's a fetish wrapped in MH issues that makes refusal to agree and rational argument so much more threatening? Are they scared and ashamed that we see them for what they are?

You're absolutely right about their fragility in public. Before Christmas I was leafletting for Women's Rights Network and had a young transwoman burst into tears and sprint off down the street when handed a leaflet about women-only spaces. When women organised a GC event locally that same individual was on-line trying to doxx people and starting petitions and calling us c**ts and hags and issuing threats.

Oblomov23 · 06/04/2023 14:52

"But he has his own motivations for persisting with exposing gender identity ideology."

So where has Matt Walsh come from, and what is his purpose / goal here?

Datun · 06/04/2023 14:48

Queenofscones · 06/04/2023 13:36

Their fragility shimmers around them like a heat haze. I know that's no reason not to do it and he does it spectacularly well.

Really? Tall, muscular Mr Mum boasting about his six-figure salary and how all the women around him thought he was the best woman ever? I tell you, if I met him in the Ladies I'd think twice about telling him to get out — and I'm not the kind of woman who's easily intimidated.

I didn't see the glee you saw. I hope you're okay.

No, I probably didn't explain myself properly, I'm not talking about their physicality, or their power.

I'm talking about the fragility of the concept by which they live their lives. The fact that it is only sustainable through forced compliance.

When you talk to transactivists online, they are battle hardened, and they put all sorts of crap out of the woodwork, and can bang on and on, and then delete you, or flounce.

Without these armaments, a person publicly embodying the concept of transgenderism and with nowhere to run, will be slain in about four seconds flat.

It's the fragility of the concept, the argument that I was referring to. And I do see it shimmering, hanging over them like a fog.

The copy cat hair, the male stance, the clear delusion, the complete absence of argument, the pre-empting of every response with the hollow 'btw, everybody loves me'.

The fact that it's clearly a fetish wrapped in a mental health issue, does nothing to reassure me, but everything to make me aghast, afresh, over how these people could ever have been listened to.

It really, really should not take a logical, self-confident, committed, educated, articulate and convicted man to shoot it down.

Oblomov23 · 06/04/2023 14:46

He's good. I like him. He speaks sense, the truth, facts.

What's so brilliant about these clips (I am going to watch the whole thing) is how there is no argument with his logic. I actually feel very sorry for the audience members, how have we raised a generation who believe this stuff. I'd hate to be young now. We've failed them, reality shouldn't be your enemy. It's so rare to see a respectful discussion instead of shouting, that's what makes it so stark, the insanity of it all.

Yes, the young blonde woman is a good example of what you are saying.

She is so earnest, evangelical almost, about how physical and chemical castration of children has to be a good thing. Even though she cannot give any evidence to support her reasons why beyond 'I know people who are happy'.

It's easy to mock people like her now, and to be incredibly angry with them and see them as an enabler of scandalous harm. But yes, she too has been failed.

I wonder if there is a future version of this woman who will look back, perhaps with children of her own beside her, and feel horrified that she was led into an ideological movement that caused her to cheerlead horrific, irreversible medical interventions for children.

The internet is forever, that video may have any number of repercussions or impacts in her future, not least to her own conscience or mental health.

in a crowded hall? Not so much

I think having seen that ‘I’m a middle class Christian man therefore I have not an ounce of self doubt’ deployed against perfectly reasonable feminist arguments makes it quite conflicting when you see the same thing demolishing gender woo

C'mon, there was facts and biology and rational thinking involved. Questions asked and never answered because they couldn't be.

Bernard, Datun — if you don't want to

I am glad he can do it. But it doesn't make it less galling to know that If women's opinions were respected, we could have punctured this ideology years ago.

Yes it's a complicated place to be.

Agree. If you look at his summing-up speech, where he tells people they will regret the surgical interventions done to them, and that the people who are encouraging them to have these interventions don't care about them in the slightest, every word he says is true. It's an absolutely devastating takedown of the entire ideology and its human impact.

But imagine if JKR had said that! JKR says things like "I know and love trans people" and "I would march alongside trans people for their rights" before explaining why she is worried about men in women's changing rooms. Fat lot of good it does her.

"Pricking the balloon of the first cohort is satisfying, but not so much with the second."

But if anything more necessary

I don't disagree that they need every bit as much of a challenge. It's just the gleeful, public, take down part of it that I would object to.

I don't feel the same way about fetishists. Funnily enough 😁

Datun · 06/04/2023 13:08

namitynamechange · 06/04/2023 13:03

@Datun You can feel galled that a woman saying the same things the same way might not be received as favourably (and likely wouldn't be able to have the same calm discussion with trans women) AND glad that that being the case at least Matt Walsh is able to do so. That's how I feel anyway and its quite a complicated place to be.

I am glad he can do it. But it doesn't make it less galling to know that If women's opinions were respected, we could have punctured this ideology years ago.

@Datun , they were not actually 'sharing a platform' with Matt Walsh. He gave a talk (I've shared a link to the full talk upthread). And then they had a q&a session at the end. So these were just randoms from the audience

Presumably these gentlemen had the confidence that their arguments were winners! Other activists did a lot of heckling.

I've been watching Mr Walsh since his Dr Phil interview ages back - worth a watch if you've not seen it. It was Mr W against a whole platform of genderists, and a studio audience against him, too. He kept his cool.

Ah ok thanks. I guess there's a reason why most people who identify as trans aren't willing to stand up and be publicly questioned. Those two must have missed the memo.
