Warner Brothers Discovery are close to cutting a deal with JKR for a HP TV series a new adaption of the original books with a season per book. JKR will be involved to ensure accuracy to the books, but will not be showrunner. She is going to make A LOT of money from this.

More details.

The Anti Women's Rights side of the internet are losing their minds. However I am thinking that it is pretty clear that they don't matter as much as they think. The failure to cancel Hogwarts Legacy in fact it becoming one of the most successful games ever making over a billion dollars so far has shown their discourse is limited in the real world.

They threw everything they had at Hogwarts Legacy and utterly failed.

Why does this matter? Because it show the only reason Genderism is doing well is because of control of certain sections of the political and cultural sphere and in reality most people, even those in the cultural world, do not go along with its core tenets. JKR will use some of that money to support the battle against sexism. More proof that our side is gathering strength.

So time to push forward because this stuff is insidious, the quicker we move the more lives we can save.

More to the point JKR will hopefully insist that the core of the show remains British. That is going to bring the UK 100s of millions in acting, media and tourism AGAIN. So again we get to ask who in the UK stands with her or against her?

I've wanted this for years. The movies were the action movie version of the story and lost a lot of the humour, mystery, character development, world building, drama and political commentary in the service of that main good versus evil plot line particularly as larger books got squeezed into the screen play lengths. The ability to make the later series longer if necessary so they aren't rushed will be brilliant.

His Dark Materials worked well I think to explore the complexities of the characters and the world.

I also feel the Strike books were squashed a fair bit and could have been given the breathing room that the later Shetland series got to really allow us time to engage with some of the suspects/theories and characters rather than zipping through everything. I hope they'll give the others more space.

Amazing! I think TV is a much better medium than movies for adaptations, you can do so much more with a whole season than with a 2 hour film. I hope it's really big budget high end TV like game of thrones.

Ooh I'd love to watch this.

My kids are just the right age to introduce them to the Potter Universe.

Depends what age the series is aimed at, but it will be a great gateway into the series for a whole new set of fans.

They threw everything they had at Hogwarts Legacy and utterly failed.

I would be interested to know to what extent their foot stamping actually gave Legacy extra impetus.

There’s an interesting dynamic here, where it is publishers, promoters and those who control the arts who are driving an agenda which is not supported by the wider public. And where the public see it happening, it seems to me they are voting with their wallets whenever they see the opportunity.

Perhaps it’s me not reading the room and they are correct, but I should imagine if, for example, Father Ted the Musical went ahead, there would be swathes of women attending now, in addition to the original Ted fans, who won’t care about a load of wailing, foot stamping teens and young adults.

Telling people what not to buy often has the opposite effect. Look at Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. It was a fairly mediocre song that gained notoriety and publicity from being branded forbidden fruit by the BBC. Unpopular activists telling people what not to buy will have the same effect.

I guess, to look at children’s publishing for example, the reason this ideology is so entrenched is that key figures have transitioned their children and thus cannot begin to admit that transitioning children is harmful. But how long can that hold? How long do the public have to put up with sub-par work because a powerful minority have backed themselves into what is admittedly, the worst corner imaginable?

But a Potter series is something to really look forward to. If anyone is to thrive amidst all this outrage, I’m glad it’s Joanne Rowling. I can’t imagine a more deserving woman. We are immensely lucky to have her.
