RTD said he deliberately cast gay actors to play gay characters in It's a Sin because he didn't think gay characters should be played by heterosexuals.

He thinks it's fine, however, for female characters to be played by men.

So, a hypocrite and a misogynist - like so many of the rest of them. I dare say that one day they'll be able to get rid of female actors altogether, and it will be just like the good old days of the sixteenth century.

I liked Capaldi's era, he really grew into the role. Jolie was not good, but that wasn't her fault.

RTD's It's a Sin was phenomenal so I have high hopes for the new series. Although the fact that there is only one female actor so far isn't great is it? And as a previous poster said, no transmen to be seen, what with them being female and all 🙄

Dr Who has had gender fluidity in its characters since the modern reboot 20 years ago.

The production team of Doctor Who is obsessed with trans activism, I do think it’s a great shame how they’ve taken a popular children’s show and turned it into a vehicle for a controversial political agenda that’s inappropriate for children. We don’t watch it anymore.

I'm growing increasingly disappointed about this. I was cautiously optimistic about RTD's return as it was my favourite show when he was at the helm and has been rubbish since he left. But so far, besides the casting of the companion, it all just seems to be about LGBTQ+ representation.

I'm fine with a bit of that and was expecting it, but it's all going that way so far, feels too much and like it's just being used to further that cause rather than anyone having much interest in the actual story and character.

Davies is a good showrunner, much better than the dire Chibnall, and the idea of TV being "good for you" in a po faced way has been ingrained in the BBC since the dawn of time. You'll take your drag and like it! So despite the unpromising early signs, it's still possible that DW will return to something watchable.

I'm not sure how I feel about this... I think I'm on the side of "no thank you" but maybe only because, as PPs have pointed out, all the main characters are now played by male actors.

I had some hopes that RTD would restore Dr Who back to its glorious self… but this looks as though it is going to be just more tedious LGB TQ etc propaganda.

Oh and completely agree that the Jodie Whittaker ones were awful - badly written, badly cast and infuriatingly preachy.

I was going to watch the David Tennant ones, but after seeing the post about RTD's comments I think I'll give it a miss. Can't stand woman-face. I find it distasteful both in principle and aesthetically.

I'm in agreement with a lot of you. Used to adore Dr Who. The BBC ruined it sadly. Preachy, boring we gave up with it and this new incarnation sounds even worse sadly.

I just want entertainment where I can escape to a fantasy world with some humour as well. I think a lot of the very popular series recently were just that, and quite traditional. I think that's what most people want.

RTD is at least a good writer responsible for some good shows. I find Jinx to be a bit of stunt casting (an American drag queen primarily known for reality tv in British sci fi?) but rtd does seem to care very much about the new school “queer” community, so hopefully he’ll be successful in creating characters people care about. (Doesn’t affect me anyway as I’ve never watched this show and never will)

My nephew loves Dr Who, but more David Tennant era. I noticed the latest ones seemed more preachy, especially when a bloke appeared to give birth in a clip I saw - although I only saw 2 mins of it & can't remember the episode etc... but I don't watch it.

One GC gay friend says why is it only drag queens that get rolled out to be role models for LBG kids, why not a gay pilot or gay brain surgeon?

The BBC has got into bed with Disney for future Dr Who, I wonder if that's where it's coming from as Jinx Monsoon is American. They could've got a UK drag queen on if they wanted to pursue this line.

I gave up on it once it stopped being entertaining and became just preachy. I want an escape from reality, not more of the same old shit that we see irl.
JW was dire as the Dr. Not her fault - the story lines and script were awful. And they wrote her as a bit thick and bumbling. Poor writing is what did for Peter Capaldi too and seems to be a problem generally with the writers. It hasn't been good since the Matt Smith version.

I'm fed up with having men doing woman face thrown at me constantly. If they want to do the trans thing, why do they never show the experience of transmen? Oh, that's right, because we all know transmen are actually female and who gives a shit about them!

The nerd in me has to point out Leslie Grantham has already served the Daleks in Resurrection of the Daleks (sadly, not as Dirty Den).

I’ve given up. First the preachiness of Whitaker’s era, now this. I used to love this show so much but it’s just become a vehicle to push an agenda now.

RTD strikes me as the type of bloke who doesn’t like women very much in real life, which is sad when you see how he can write amazingly strong female parts, Billie Piper’s Rose being one of them. Maybe if he wrote that part now it would be a bloke in drag or a transwoman playing it, I have a feeling that’s what he’d prefer.

Although I suppose Joss Whedon wrote amazingly strong female parts but turned out to be a dick towards women, albeit for different reasons, sigh.

I think it's good for kids to see a variety of different people on telly, but drag is without a doubt degrading to women and calling women 'fishy' well that's just horrible and not good for kids. I hate drag and just don't find the crude jokes and innuendos funny, especially when at the expense of women. Vile

I will be giving it a try. I was very sad that Jodie Whittaker’s episodes very quickly descended into enforced “education” rather than a smattering of education and politics well integrated within a strong, entertaining storyline.

I was pleased when I heard RTD was returning, but the extremist views he expressed at the BAFTAs, followed by a raft of reveals about “inclusive” characters does concern me. I will watch and hope he can pull it off, but me and several members of my family (huge Who fans all) have all expressed misgivings.
