The name was accepted by the registrar. A court order was necessary to amend the original registration of the birth.

Lots of countries don’t allow stupid names. And that article just says a girl was given a new name, presumably in a similar process like deed poll, nothing about changing the birth certificate.

And a name is entirely subjective, a choice, not an immutable fact like sex, date of birth, place of birth.

There are a number of entirely legitimate reasons for altering birth certificates.

Also when that somebody regularly posts on FB, positively, about indigenous culture, art etc and uses indigenous word and phrases.

I hope you won’t mind if I send her some of your posts, especially from the Auckland thread, I’ve been quite shocked by her attitude today.

What in God’s name is the point in the first place of a birth certificate if you’re allowed to alter it at a later date?

Are allowed to change the date and place of birth, too?

You render it meaningless if you change it.

All to appease a vocal deluded minority.

For future reference, when we talk about 'changing birth certificates' we are talking about the above. (I'm assuming what you have said is correct).

Yes. That is correct. The public facing records are altered but an archival copy is retained.

But if your concern is simply that public records have been altered, it’s also possible to request that your birth certificate is withheld from public viewing.

Normal people find it quite unbelievable that a niche ideology has taken hold to the extent that world leaders are simply unable to define man and woman.

Unable? No: afraid.

You know what this reminds me of? School. Kids afraid to be seen with victims of bullying, in case the bullies turn on them, too.

Birth records aren’t actually changed except in cases which involve intersex or DSD conditions. Such records are now often left blank at the point of registration and filled in when more information becomes available.

In the case of transgender people the original birth record is moved into an archival section and the public facing record is amended. The Government retains the original records along with a register which contains the amended certificates, but these records are not publicly accessible.
