Trans rights activism, a GC male perspective

Hallo Mumsnet allies, from recently-joined new comrade in arms. And a male to boot.
I've been deliberating leaving some thoughts on the scarred landscape that is trans activism, from an XY perspective. I'm unsure of how much interest a guy's thoughts are here.
My opinions range from the autogynephile/porn "sharp end" of the phenomenon, through my views as a male non parent on the phenomenon amongst teens, through the threat to free speech/institutional capture area, segueing nicely into the Labour Party's position and what this means post-2024 GE.
I need to be frank in this discussion, and some of what I might say may rub some readers the wrong way, but it's my heartfelt analysis.
I'm seeing very little from GC men online, save for Graham Linehan, Malcolm Clark, Dennis Noel Kavanagh, Simon Edge, Colin Wright, Billboard Chris, Wesley Yang, Jon Pike.
My take is of someone who's really thought a lot about this subject, has really weighed up lots of factors, and has really come down on the GC side, indeed is working hard to reconcile very strong emotions on the subject.
I'll post my thoughts if that's wanted, let me know.

I wish more men were allies. Most of them don't give a stuff because it doesn't affect them really. Some men identifying as women and entering female spaces, sports, competitions, whatever leaves less 'weirdos' in theirs.

I totally agree.

And sadly nothing will change with this until men start saying "hang on a minute, this makes no sense".

Because, sadly mens' views count for more than womens'.

I seem to remember that Maria Montessori wrote about a sensitive period for the development of erotic arousal which fits really well with the example of the 12 year old boy and the wet suit.

This is one of the many reasons why we should be protecting under 18s from exposure to pornography and other explicit imagery. It would allow them to develop a more natural set of desires around intimacy and to develop at their own pace.

RealityFan · 06/09/2023 19:04

Sometimes fakes seem better than the real thing. I'm sorry to tell my accuser that I'm very much the genuine article. I really wouldn't waste time leaving misleading messages. I don't think any of my posts are anything less than a kosher ally to this cause.

Why would anyone thing RF is fake? He posts all the time.

DemiColon · 06/09/2023 17:56

I have a suspicion that one element with the anime is that pushes certain buttons that the human brain is attuned to. Large eyes, for example. It's distorted, but in a way people feel drawn to, the same way we feel drawn to those cute stuffy animals with giant eyes.

I've also wondered if there is something about the flatness and abstract element of the images.

But the other thing I'd say is that human beings have a certain capacity to be imprinted sexually, and this is particularly true of boys and men. Odd things can sometimes awaken sexual desire, I remember reading about a 12 year old boy who became aroused for no apparent reason seeing a rubber diving suit, and went on to quite an extensive rubber fetish. But what really struck me was how random it was.

Once a person begins to pursue sexual activity with regard to that thing, even masturbation, it just creates a powerful reinforcement loop. And it can get weirder and weirder.

People have forgotten this about sex though. The dominant narrative is we are born with certain types of proclivities and they aren't really affected by the environment. So people don't think it matters what we expose people to.

RealityFan has been a regular poster for quite some time now. I am not entirely sure what you are implying Helena?

RealityFan · 06/09/2023 17:17

Well, it is in the title. But since I've been declared fake, I'm starting to wonder now.

This thread had passed me by (haven't RTWT), but I didn't realise until yesterday (?) that the OP was male. As am I , if it's not obvious.

RealityFan · 06/09/2023 17:08

Huh?

I'd say ask the TWAW males if they have any trans women in their dating pool. Are they willing to date trans women?

From what I have gleaned, it is easy to groom children online by joining anime/manga communities. You have a cute anime avatar to hide behind, so no one knows how old you are. Parents won’t suspect anything because they see their child following their interests in anime, manga and gaming. These adults can really easily impress the children in these forums with their art and computer skills, giving them pictures of their avatar in a scenario as a gift. For example, if the child is a spacecat, they can draw an impressive image of the space cat in their own dreamland. The kids feels special and wants to get closer.

I think the majority of the ‘anime avatars’ you see on Twitter are probably part of this group.

Obviously, not all the adults who are part of these communities are child groomers - quite a number are autistic adults who don’t grow out of wanting to spend time in this fantasy world.

There have been many thread her explaining anime etc.

I'm not up on the terms (some posters are much more knowledgeable) but there are other graphic novel styles are from Japan where fixation on underage school girls is commonplace. I remember from a documentary that, until quite recently, pedophilic cartoons were legal.

Detransitioners such as Helena/ Hormone Hangover have described their exposure to certain romantic graphic stories with young male (gay?) characters via tumblr being a part of their desire to be a boy.

I think anime has merged with all of that and also with various mainstream genres and games such as Pokémon.

(This is a really rubbish explanation but basically there's cartoon porn and crossovers with children's cartoons including cartoon porn about children and furries.)

I do know that many autistic children / teens, especially girls, enjoy fantastical animal like mergings and dressing up/ role play. So it's another very worrying way in which perpetrators are able to access vulnerable children.

There’s a very illuminating article, don’t have a link, where a young man explains how his fondness for Pokémon, as a child, led down a now well worn path to wanting to be castrated by his twenties.

  1. Joins Pokémon community online, gets introduced to other anime and manga.
  2. Follows interest in that, gets exposed to hentai (cartoon pornography)
  3. Follows interest in that, gets exposed to futanari hentai (cartoon pornography where girls suddenly grow penises).
  4. Follows interest in that, becomes part of an obsessed community, where discussions about how gay you are if the girls with penises have balls or not.
  5. Becomes obsessed himself, his fantasy life dominated by imagining himself to be one of these ‘girls’.
  6. Starts to seek out surgery, either to just get testicles removed or to get a cavity created in addition, to be like one of these fantasy ‘girls’ with a vagina, but a penis for a clitoris.

Futanari isn’t the only problematic subset of hentai - I have wiped out of my mind the name for the stuff with kawaii ‘cute’ children being abused in it - it has the word ‘cat’ in it I think.

I can't remember if there are specific threads queen, there may have been a couple recently. It tends to come up in conversations on threads.

WarriorN · 04/04/2023 10:04

Wolf in sheep's clothing?

Completely. Also sacred caste under the trans umbrella.

The whole 'be yourself' narrative is a useful one to use for abuse.

QueenHippolyta · 04/04/2023 09:58

Jon K. Uhler a psychologist who worked with sex offenders in prisons. He is very good and explains things very clearly, no jargon.

thanks @WarriorN I'll take a search through threads. One thing I do know is young girls reading maleslash fanfiction and wanting to trans to male are getting a distorted idea of gay culture, as this is written by women for women. My gay acquaintances hate it.

May be some sort of alter ego identity representation that somehow makes underage sex palatable or excusable

Jon Khuler (sp?) an American probation/ sex offender psych said on a Boyce interview that he was told by perpetrators that it's a pedo grooming tactic. One actually said that mothers won't let a man near their kids but they'll let someone dressed up as an animal.

@RealityFan :"this something you want me to elaborate on?'

Yes, please do. I'm interested and haven't a clue.
For me porn is looking at Vintage Playmates and I still feel guilty..😂

Queen H, you're describing the typical porn habits of an average 9 year old boy in 1973, lol.

But this leads to a serious point. Online porn is a whole other (rotting) animal compared to the analogue stuff of mags and videos/DVDs.

From the availability on demand, to the ramping up of expectation, to the ever increasing choice and thus edgier and edgier choice.

And critically a whole different category of dopamine response.

What's also happened is that taboo stuff also becomes mainstream, from faux incest imagery, to choking/spitting, to pure violent imagery.

And genre/visuals choice becomes bewildering, like buying styles or colours or combinations in any other area of shopping.

Where this slots into TRA culture is that what was always a misoginist pursuit is now downright degrading and requiring full degradation of the subject, ie subjugation, to have it's desired dopamine release.

Throw in the pure powerplay inherent in the verbal and physical bullying and assault of women, the turn on the TRAs get in this control of women corresponds to the violent porn turn on.

The AGP and Sissy Porn thing is a further projection of the violent inner ego outward.
Now, not only are these men women, they are women on demand, and you'll bend to their demands.

The Anime thing I'm less sure of, ditto Furries. May be some sort of alter ego identity representation that somehow makes underage sex palatable or excusable.

It was actually Queen H who commented. So I'll await her reply.
