Today, I celebrate the news that my appeal was successful and the proceedings are over. Even after intense scrutiny of my work and over a hundred allegations, my fitness to practise medicine has not been found to be impaired, I have no restrictions on my practice and I can resume my life-saving work. The case ends today and the proceedings are over.
The stringent analysis of this case will only serve to assist other doctors wanting to provide care for their trans patients. If I can develop the skills to help this group of patients then so can they. I am simply a well-meaning, well-educated GP who was willing to learn how best to provide this care and I was brave enough to stand against the outdated NHS model of care which is evidently not fit for purpose in its current state.

Either someone understands that changing children’s hormones is child abuse, or they don’t.

I hope that when Helen Webberley finally notices the voices of detransitioners, and begins to understand the harm she has done, she gets the therapy she needs.

Legally under 18s are children. Yet the nhs prescribed HRT to under 18s.
So are you saying that the staff in the NHS should be prosecuted?

Why does a ‘gender diverse kid’ need ‘healthcare’?

Looking forward to the answer to this from the OP or Mishy.

Apparently 'gender diverse kids' aren't in any way unwell, but they need 'specialist healthcare'. This consists of blocking their normal hormone production during puberty and the administration of the hormones of the opposite sex, meaning that they will end up being infertile. And in order to obtain this 'healthcare' (if you can call it that) they need access to doctors like the Webberleys - Helen with her criminal conviction for flouting regulations which are in place to protect patients and her gastroenterologist husband who was eventually struck off for his part in their money-making scheme.

Nobody has ever explained what they are trying to achieve by interfering with children's hormones in this way, or why they believe this is necessary for these children.

So come on, OP and Mishy, explain why it is that you believe these children should be sterilised.

KatMcBundleFace · 01/04/2023 16:59

It's quite striking isn’t it?

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 01/04/2023 16:54

See? There is common ground between terves and transgender people, both communities acknowledge that GenderGP provide a subpar, unsafe service that is motivated by profit, not people!

Quite!

Comments from Reddit on thread near-identical to the OP here on MN:

"They only care about the money"

Yup.

The amount of wilfull damage to gender diverse kids in this thread is actually shocking.

The faux-concern and 'tears' for these kids isnt remotely backed up by actual service users, who were grateful for the healthcare.

The GMC should have brought forward 'all those detransitioners' but they didnt exist.

While places like the Tavistock are defunded, the health care needs of the trans community are woeful.

It is only through services such as Dr Webberley that many can get help as is available elsewhere in the civilised world.

I'm glad she won. Her persecution was unjust.

Problem is, GenderGP is only a fraction of the job.

They can’t take bloods, they can’t do scans, they are clueless when something goes wrong and leave their customers adrift with no routine follow up and no endocrInologist on staff.

At least the other private services can see patients in person when required and are able to integrate with the NHS, which is really important when a patient has other pre-existing physical or mental health conditions.

The other private services don’t prescribe to minors because they aren’t paediatric specialists.

And GIDS’ problems weren’t caused by a lack of funds, on the contrary, NHS England sent more money than they could spend. The waiting list rocketed because GIDS couldn’t recruit or retain staff. It was never a financial thing - the accounts are all published online.

If you are going down the unsafe route of taking hormones meant for the opposite sex, I'm pretty sure the NHS won't monitor you. Make sure whichever snake oil seller you choose, properly follows you up, and don't go crying to the rest of us when it ends up going horribly wrong.

Boomboom22 · 01/04/2023 15:22

Can this be overruled by the high Court? Wtf, how can this be allowed when the regulatory body say she should get struck off. Can we complain to our mp etc? This tribunal court has made a shocking decision against all reason and science surely!

Really really bad news. Those poor kids and those poor families who run into HW and her ilk in their hour of need.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 01/04/2023 13:14

Wow. Shady!

I seem to remember her flogging clomid online and advertising her website on the TTC and IVF boards on here?

OldCrone · 01/04/2023 12:21

Webberly is unlikely to get an NHS job with a criminal conviction for running an illegal clinic but I doubt she’d want one?

Much more money to be made via websites operating all across the EU than there is in standardised NHS pay.

Before latching onto the trans gravy train, Webberley was involved in 'shadow prescribing', which enabled Americans to get medication at NHS prices. She's never been content with just an NHS or GP salary.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 01/04/2023 11:52

New England and Wales guidelines will automatically involve social services in cases where children are being given wrong sex hormones and/or GNRHa drugs outside of the NHS.

So it’s more likely that parents will be prosecuted for child endangerment than any HCP (especially if the children aren’t being properly supervised for growth impairment or being given bone density scans).

Her husband, the other Dr Webberly is permanently struck off so they are down to one income.

Lots of complaining about GenderGP’s shoddy service all over the web today.

No it's not illegal.
A doctor can prescribe any medication they like - although they could be investigated for this. They would also be made criminally liable if they prescribe a drug that directly links to the patients death.
Hormones aren't that, and hormones aren't prescribed to children per se. It's complicated because legally there's nothing between children and adult. But most wouldn't call a 16 year old a child.
As per WPATH, blockers can be prescribed when the young person is in tanner stage 2. Hormones can be prescribed 1 year later.
I believe that is what Webberley did in the case of the 12 year old, but I haven't read too much into the court case.

This would suggest not only were her actions legal, but also were following suggested guidelines.

WPATH is a group of self-interested parties who campaign, amongst other things, for 'eunuch' to be a recognised 'gender identity'. Their guidelines aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Recently some of the people involved in WPATH including psychologist Erica Anderson and surgeon Marci Bowers (both of them transgender) have started arguing against affirming and medicating children who identify as transgender.

There are no UK recognised 'suggested guidelines' which advocate giving opposite sex hormones to children as young as 12 following a telephone diagnosis of 'transgenderism' as Webberley was doing. Isn't this why her husband was struck off? The UK guidelines don't allow opposite sex hormones to be administered until at least 16 years of age.

Shelefttheweb · 01/04/2023 11:45

WPATH is a lobby group. Their lobby documents are not the same NHS guidelines and shouldn’t be compared. Do you also agree with their chapter on eunuchs written by child abusers?

Plantaseed90 · 01/04/2023 11:25

OldCrone · 01/04/2023 03:32

She does not need to follow the same set up as gender clinics in the UK, and if she wishes she can continue to prescribe hormone replacement therapy to those under 16 years old.

This is what concerns me. Is it actually illegal to prescribe opposite sex hormones to children? Although she was investigated for doing this I don't think she was prosecuted for it. Perhaps because no law was broken.

The criminal conviction was from 2018 after she failed to register with the HIW.
The tribunal was in relation to her practice as a GP, which she just successfully appealed.

Ah, so you were just confused when you said ‘conviction overturned’?

The criminal conviction isn’t overturned.

Empowermenomore · 01/04/2023 07:31

From a gardeners point of view: Damaging weeds are hard to clear.

Awful that someone with so little regard for children’s health is out there, ready to mint it again.
