Gender as an ideological construct should not be confused or conflated with the material reality of biological sex. Gender is the vehicle through which misogyny is enacted and normalised.

I think I know who's getting my vote this year!

Have they taken it down? I get an error message when I click on the link to the statement.

Come on CPGB, don't back down!

comparisons of the CPUK (and other countries) and the authoritian dictatorships of socialist states are misplaced though.

Stalin didn't have purges because of communism. Stalin had purges to get rid of any possible opposition to his authoritarian dictatorship. likewise Hitler (but facist authoritarian dictatorship)

True communism - without power hungry autocrats - would be a different thing.

I have often thought that the best kind of government in many places would be a benevolent dictatorship. (vote for me, I'd be awesome, btw)

I thought @datun had been installed as our Overlady?

Rom is awfully like a customer services Chatbot. What does he think Communism even is, if he thinks you can take the ‘class reductionism’ out of it? 😅

Miri is so disinterested in terves Miri posts tweets about how disinterested in terves Miri is.

OMG this is possibly the most attention the CPB have had for 20 years. The replies and quote tweets are full of outraged bluehairs. It's hilarious.

I have no intention of actually voting for any sort of communists but I am so here for this!

I bet the anger is really quite something.

Isn’t the second chamber something that Labour under KS want to water down?

I haven't paid that much attention because i no longer live in UK and don't have a vote any more (that may change). AFAIK they want to reduce further the hereditary nature of the remaining seats that benefit from that, streamline it and make it more professional as an upper chamber. That is fine by me.

Camdenish · 30/03/2023 11:59

Brefugee · 30/03/2023 10:38

but totalinariasm wouldn't get a handle in the UK. That is why there is a 2nd chamber.

And if you really want to vote on this one single issue, it is far far better to go for an outfielder or spoil your ballot (add the communist party at the bottom and tick that) to drive the point home. The communist party will never ever get a seat in the UK parliament. But if enough people vote for them, and make it clear at every oportunity it is on one single issue? at least the point would have been made.

Isn’t the second chamber something that Labour under KS want to water down? Yet another frightening reason not to vote Labour. From an ex party member.

GCAcademic · 29/03/2023 20:11

I guess that must make the Communist Party far right?

Of course. Because the definition of a far right Nazi fascist is believing that biological sex matters for the dignity, safeguarding and rights of women and girls.

And the definition of progressive left wing tolerance is violently silencing any dissenting or opposing voices.

I thought everyone knew that?

Beowulfa · 30/03/2023 11:37

I've lived in Eastern Europe so think it unlikely I'd ever vote Communist, but it is genuinely fascinating how easily and unequivocally they can factor the basics of women's rights into their ideology.

If the Green Party could just do this and then focus on the environment I wouldn't be politically homeless.

MissLawls · 30/03/2023 11:35

Well we have local elections in May and I've yet to decide who to vote for. I can't even think about not voting. I've always voted - first voted in October 1974! I don't believe in spoiling my ballot paper either. Least here I pretty much know the local candidates so I can content myself with voting for the person not the party. But in the general next year I am very torn. I live in a Tory/Labour marginal. It could go Labour again - it did in 1997/2001/2005. But it's mainly a Tory seat and our MP is sympathetic to GC views. Much depends on the candidate I suppose. But for sure I will be asking them what is a woman. I think the more of us do this if canvassed the more the message will filter back up. I know this because I've been a canvasser and comments and remarks are reported. It's all part of building a picture and there's no better way than doorstep knocking! (And btw, for those who haven't done this, what comes up most are hyper local issues like parking, dog mess and anti-social behaviour!)

Brefugee · 30/03/2023 11:30

the thing about picking the CPGB for your protest vote - as a single issue voter - is that it is completely unexpected. (comes from left-field, if you like) And that you also, because you know they are never winning a seat, that you don't have to actually compromise on the "hold your nose and vote Tory/Labour/LibDem" and worry that when they get in that, although they might be able to tell you what a woman is (or not) their other policies are something that you're not on board with and are in danger of being enacted.

With the communists? (or other small party that you agree with on one or two points) you make a point and carry on with your life.

MissLawls · 30/03/2023 11:23

I am delighted to see this statement if for no other reason it means we can no longer be categorised as far right/fascist and thus othered, non-personed and dismissed! It doesn't matter how few members and voters the CPGB has. The Morning Star has in the past come out in favour of GC views. I often wondered why.

I find this discussion fascinating. I don't think I could ever vote for the CPGB and very much doubt I'd have a candidate where I live to vote for. However this does help move the debate on if for no other reason it demonstrates you can be left wing and gender critical and for that they've done us a great service.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/03/2023 11:07

Does being a Communist party member still give you grief for visiting the States? Genuine question.

Brefugee · 30/03/2023 10:52

I think fringe parties can be useful (sorry for them though) for protest votes.

When I'm cross here in Germany i try to vote for the Marxist Leninist Party of Germany (they gave me a badge once so i have a soft spot for the bonkers maniacs)

If they were the only party here who could tell me what a woman is? for sure i would vote for them, because i have major disagreements on this and other things with pretty much all other parties.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 30/03/2023 10:40

You make a very persuasive point @Brefugee

Resign from the party you're a member of and tell them why.
Join the communists and tell them why. (and read their stuff, you might be surprised at some of the absolutely mainstream things they support)

It may be worth considering. I am horrified and scared of totalitarian approaches wherever they come from though.

great to see them nailing their colours to the mast though and I admire their integrity

Yes, I agree and I admire their ability to intelligently analyse the laws about sex and gender.

Not only Kier Starmer, the lawyer, has failed in this.

Our Conservative government’s initial response to the Equality Act petition shows they barely read the petition let alone answered what it asked; and shows that they themselves don’t understand the complexities and contradictions within the laws.

Brefugee · 30/03/2023 10:24

History hasn't known a Communist government, only corrupt Stalinist or Maoist ones

thank you.

I also don't think anyone needs worry that the communists are going to take over the UK. But if enough people who only want to make their voice heard on this one issue vote for the communists? then the other parties will have to listen.

Resign from the party you're a member of and tell them why.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 30/03/2023 10:17

I think the problem for me is that along with a democratically elected government comes the ‘out’

that is, in X years time they have to persuade people to vote for them again. Generally stops them being too extreme

I’m in a bit over my head here, but elections don’t tend to figure largely in communism I think? Where’s the “out” if they turn out to be vicious megalomaniacs?

Redebs · 30/03/2023 10:11

Brefugee · 30/03/2023 09:44

the point being it wasn't the communisum but the brutal authoritarian dictatorships that happened due to the meglomaniac men who managed to get to the top of the pile.

Pretty much like the Tsars. And anyone who thinks that people didn't live lives of utter drudgery and penury and starved under the Tsars is deluding themselves.

What happened under Stalin is down to Stalin and those who went along with him for the ride, under the banner of communism. Not actual communism or anything like the socialism that Marx described (which allows for private ownership of small firms, just not the entirety of the means of production)

Exactly

Redebs · 30/03/2023 10:10

RoseFl0wers · 29/03/2023 20:13

My grandma grew up in a communist country. I know how communism ruins people’s lives. It’s not the utopia they preach.

History hasn't known a Communist government, only corrupt Stalinist or Maoist ones

namitynamechange · 30/03/2023 09:57

Hmmm...
I think communism has been tried in enough places, enough times to conclude that the problems that tend to arrive are pretty inherent. That said, l think having some communists/traditional far left types floating about works as a good counterbalance. Like @BernardBlacksMolluscs I think that democratic, capitalist but controlled/balanced with social welfare is the best. In Britain especially that involves a mix of people, including some who are quite eccentric sort of muddling through as best they can.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 30/03/2023 09:47

Well this is an interesting diversion!

I increasingly feel (probably because it has given me a pretty good life all things considered), that the way we do things in Western Europe is probably the least bad.

That is, democratic, capitalist but balanced by influential left leaning politicians and more liberal than autocratic

you would not catch me voting communist in a month of Sundays, regardless of how clear they are on sex vs gender

great to see them nailing their colours to the mast though and I admire their integrity
