*No-one. But she's right.

Four threads about the trans angle. None about (eg.) gun control.

Priorities and perspectives completely, 100% fucked up.*

What fucking board are you posting on?

What else can be said about the gun control angle? As has been said here and elsewhere, when the US govt and public failed to act after Sandy Hook and Parkland, they proved they’re never going to do anything significant on gun control. The UK did act in response to a school shooting and so most of us don’t live in fear of being the victim of gun violence or our children experiencing an active shooter situation. In terms of what’s topical (particularly on this board) the trans angle is more relevant than the gun one, so it’s hardly surprising that it’s garnered more discussion. Exacerbated by confusing reporting yesterday. Nothing preventing anyone starting a discussion specifically about gun control!

Ultimately thats not the fault of trans people, crime generally is not reported, even Sunak said that yesterday.

We have a vote and we voted for Austerity and continued to vote to slash police numbers, the criminal justice system and legal aid.

The lack of action on rape and violence against women is shocking, 1% received justice and we have a Police force that believes 99% are regretful sex, we also voted to have a system where if the attacker says "Sorry" he will receive no sentence.

But none of this is the fault of Trans people, its not either or!!

Everyone should receive justice and violence against anyone should not be accepted as the norm but we seem to be going back to an age where it is.

I wasn't aware i told you what your thoughts were, i just told you that the two news outlets i listened too reported accurately.

Look! A squirrel!

@Messyhair321 But you're trying to stop people talking about sex and gender, on a sex and gender topic, because you feel the timing isn't correct. Just leave maybe?

What? And miss an opportunity to get a scoldy finger out? No way.

Why would we have a thread about Gun Control on the Sex and Gender Board?

3 kids are dead and this is what people feel the need to keep making threads about? So many people on here need to sort their fucking priorities out.

Who forced to you to participate in this thread?

Children are murdered and the first thing that comes into your head is ‘what biological sex was the shooter?’ Really?

That is a valid question, yes. Along with "what was the shooter's motive?"

JaneJeffer · 28/03/2023 11:34

Absolutely disgraceful statement.
Agreed. It should not be allowed to stand.

TheBiologyStupid · 28/03/2023 11:28

Howpo · 28/03/2023 08:14

"Claiming" but not always genuine!

The stats on violence against trans are well reported and researched.

Indeed. In the UK, more transwomen have committed murder than been the victims of murder. (In some cases, both the murderer and murderee were trans.)

FusionChefGeoff · 28/03/2023 09:59

@ancientgran and others assuming they know my thought processes:

Me: Reads initial report about the shooting, very sketchy details
Me: fucking hell this is awful, those poor kids / parents, I can't believe the US aren't doing anything about guns

Me: reads later headline confirming that it was a female shooter
Me: I don't believe that based on what's happening recently I bet it will end up being revealed to be a man

......

@CryptoFascistMadameCholet thank you for your middle of the night detective work. My jumbled brain thanks you.

FusionChefGeoff · 27/03/2023 23:24

I see what you're saying as I was hoping something - but it's not comparable - in this case I 'wanted' the shooter to be a MAN not a woman. Not a transgender person over a non transgender person.

I was expecting the 'reveal' to show that this kind of violence is male violence not female violence.

The transgender angle isn't the priority.

Again, someone standing up for women's rights is repositioned to being anti-trans.

As it happens, this appears to be the exception that proves the rule.

I don't think the first thought for the victims and their families will be "I hope it was a man" What a bizarre thought.

As someone said upthread this is terrorism.

Absolutely disgraceful statement.

At least no one has tried to smear the children as fascist oppressors. Not yet, anyway.

Possibly reacting to transphobic ideology. We will have to see.

Are you trying to make excuses for thhe shooter?!!!!

GraysPapaya · 28/03/2023 09:07

Not rival was meant to say *shooter

GraysPapaya · 28/03/2023 09:06

I’ve seen the footage of him entering the primary school and it’s chilling. Defenceless kids at the mercy of an adult rival.

If the shooter is indeed a trans man, then he should be marked as a male violence stat, that’s how it works right?

I feel I’ve got compassion fatigue on Americans/gun issue. This keeps happening and America do nothing about it, each time the world gets angry and nothing bloody changes.
So I’m done- crack on America.

I am addressing your point about “Rubbish, trans people are far far more likely to victims then perpetrators of violence.”

But let’s see the evidence you have based your statement on.

What have I just read? "Left with no choice"?

So, agree with and do everything we say or we might be left with no choice but to shoot your children?

This is terrorism.

They can xxxx right off with with that, evil murders carried out by a deranged individual.

The world is a better place that she is no longer in it.

No other choice??? what about the choices of those killed? they don't matter do they!!!!

Howpo · 28/03/2023 08:50

Helleofabore · 28/03/2023 08:37

I now suspect that trans people are more likely to report a crime and have that crime investigated and receive justice than women are.

Having stood holding hands with other women to surround women speaking recently against trans activists screaming abuse and intent on silencing women, while the people allowed that abuse to be yelled, I suspect women are a long way from having the hate crimes carried out against them taken seriously.

I suspect that one of the reasons there has been so much confusion regarding name/sex/gender is that this person was either extremely new to social transition or was only using a male name online.

All the professionals, family, friends and neighbours interviewed so far have used the person’s birth name.

This doesn’t mean anything re: hormones though - lots of trans people in the US seem to take cross sex hormones for quite a while before changing name/updating paperwork etc.

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering why my mass shooter stats upthread are much lower than the massive ‘there have already been X mass shooting THIS YEAR’ numbers, it’s because some databases don’t discern between types of mass shootings, and include things like gang related multiple murders and family annihilation crimes.

All murders are a tragedy and bereavement via murder is hellish for loved ones left behind (some of you will remember that my family lost someone to a random wrong place, wrong time murder) so when I’ve been trying to parse the data it’s purely on the basis of specific offence type.

Thankfully, this type of crime, the mass shooting of strangers in a public place, is the least common type of mass shooting, although it is the type that gets the most press attention.
