That's all I'm saying - Google is your friend and it's in the byline.

So was the perpetrator biologically male or female?

Hawkins00 · 27/03/2023 23:31

Messyhair321 · 27/03/2023 23:29

So what if they use broad strokes? So what?
Attacking someone's style of writing is just ridiculous.
This is about loss of life what is wrong with you?

I was responding specifically to this quote they made

"You really don't give up on the trans bashing on this website do you?"

Without a full detailed analysis on Mumsnet then they cannot fully accurately make that analysis.

It's really interesting that when a trans-identified female commits a terrible crime the media, even the left-leaning media, have no problem describing her as female and a woman, ignoring her he/him pronouns and using her deadname. If a trans-identified male had done this the media would have been monstered for not calling him a woman.

Strange isn't it?

If crimes committed by males identifying as women are recorded as crimes committed by females then this crime if it is a female identifying as a man needs to be recorded as a crime committed by a male.

I note that in the report today about the TW who violently assaulted another TW she/her was used throughout the reporting, yet in this crime the reporting does not use he/him.

Cannot have it both ways, either stick to the enforced pronoun script or abandon it and use the correct sex based pronouns and words.

Messyhair321 · 27/03/2023 23:29

Hawkins00 · 27/03/2023 23:27

And it seems your using broad strokes to paint a sweeping statement without a detailed analysis

@Messyhair321 But you're trying to stop people talking about sex and gender, on a sex and gender topic, because you feel the timing isn't correct. Just leave maybe?

The fact that the person who has done the shooting is allegedly a trans person is irrelevant. You really don't give up on the trans bashing on this website do you?

It's relevant when it comes to factual reporting of crime.

Don't be so sure.

Have you listened to the Police Chief?

FREEDOM OF SPEECH. If people on the 'sex and gender' board want to discuss this news in relation to sex and gender then that is their freedom. You don't have to participate and you don't have to read, so just move along.

You don't own this board & freedom of speech works both ways, people have a right to speak & disagree with your agenda. Sex & gender isn't just for people who hate self identity

Didn't bob geldof write a song about a girl eho shot up a school in the 80s?

I don't like Mondays?

Yes, that was a teenage girl

IClaudine apologies, when I said you might be misunderstanding, I hadn't seen the pictures.

No. This is about timing. History means that people have grieved, they have come to terms with what has happened. This has just happened, it's hugely disrespectful not to mention a bit weird to jabber on about what the position of the killer was without acknowledging the victims.

Fair point, but then all the world's media are in the same boat as fellow mumsnetters, due to them all detailing the full case ?

Messyhair321 · 27/03/2023 23:25

Just very sad that people are so egocentric that they make the issue of murder & loss of precious life all about their agenda & try to weave an argument about gender identity. F'king get a grip on yourselves

These threads feel similar to conservative messaging boards I used to read when Islamist terrorism was higher profile. Whenever there was a shooting in the US, people would be hoping that the shooter was a Muslim, and you could see the disappointment when the shooter happened to be white.

I see what you're saying as I was hoping something - but it's not comparable - in this case I 'wanted' the shooter to be a MAN not a woman. Not a transgender person over a non transgender person.

I was expecting the 'reveal' to show that this kind of violence is male violence not female violence.

The transgender angle isn't the priority.

Again, someone standing up for women's rights is repositioned to being anti-trans.

As it happens, this appears to be the exception that proves the rule.

I think you might be cnfused about the language here - not sure but if you are, I can see why.

I don't think I am confused. The shooter was not a trans woman, but a trans man as far as I can see, so use of she/her pronouns seems wrong. But it will become clearer I expect.

But as pp ate right, we should be focussing on the tragedy, not on the shooter's gender identity.

Might be the sex and gender board but its also less than 8 hours after some kids were murdered and people on this board are already centering themselves in the story. There are victims in this horrific situation and its damn sure not the people posting here.

Oh please.

It’s a current events news story. The whole world is discussing it.

It’s a horrific crime and it’s not disrespectful to expect our media outlets to cover it accurately.

Redebs · 27/03/2023 23:23

Horrific crime. And children killed too. Awful.

But media reporting of shooter is confusing. It appears that TMAW as well now. Crazy times.

No. This is about timing. History means that people have grieved, they have come to terms with what has happened. This has just happened, it's hugely disrespectful not to mention a bit weird to jabber on about what the position of the killer was without acknowledging the victims.

This is the sex and gender board - the story wouldn’t be being discussed here at all if there was no sex and gender element. Try Chat for the general threads on the awfulness of the crime and sympathy for the victims (MNHQ already deleted one because the info was ahead of the mainstream press. Should be allowed now though).

———

Both the New York Times and the Guardian are using she/her and woman and they wouldn’t want to risk an accidental ‘misgendering’ so it seems likely the perp was male?

It really shouldn’t be this hard to tell though. The media is bonkers.

No, all shootings, especially of little children, are horrific. But it is very, very rare for them to be committed by females. So when that appears to be the case it gets more attention. Just as plane crashes get more attention than car crashes. Wanting to understand "why" is normal.

It doesn't take away from the horror of the deaths. I could say what I thought about the regularity of this happening in America, and the subsequent discussion about gun control which never goes anywhere but it is the same conversation every time - American states could do more to prevent these tragedies happening. They never will. Same conversation every time.

Messyhair321 · 27/03/2023 23:11

Why so much focus on gender identity. FFS people were killed, they lost their lives. Families are grieving, their lives changed forever.
RIP.

It’s not gender identity that’s relevant to understanding criminal behaviour patterns, it’s sex.

I can't tell you how much these school shootings, and any shooting of a child, just fucks with us here in the US...I probably need to get off the internet before I lose my mind...can't take having babies gunned down. We never know when it will be ours.

Flowers

I feel it, too, Delphinium. Take care.
