'drumming overhead for the last hour; chanting, shouting, fake sirens; people waiting outside for us to come out, protesting that lesbians are meeting without men present. They have come to violate our space and “teach” us a lesson in compliance.'

'The police advise there is another exit. They have blocked the road outside, have erected tents. They are waiting for us.'

'I am so angry A woman has said her rapist is in the protest outside I am SO ANGRY Lesbians cannot meet without men punishing us with violence in 2023'

Solidarity with the women meeting today. I'm so bloody sorry you're having to navigate this shit show.

The following is a copy and paste from the comments section:

You can't avoid politics when you are auditing TLA. Auditing is a political act.

TERFS is a term of abuse or even hatred towards feminists that believe that trans women are not identical to biological (XX) women. That the two categories cannot be folded into one.

Oooh, that Public Order Offence. Funny how the police are very particular about enforcing the law when it suits them ain't it? There's only two potential reasons for that. Either some people are more equal than others under the law or the police are worried about the protesters escalating into violence and rioting if the police pull some of them out of the crowd to arrest them.

Edit: What set the trans lot off was the talk about free speech. They associate anyone talking about free speech with people on the political right. People like Toby Young. And of course they don't distinguish anything on the right from fascism and nazism.

People who have that kind of mindset also think that punching nazis is not only okay it is pretty much an obligation.

Yeah. It's not sophisticated politics.

What is fairly sophisticated is their organisation and information gathering. Those 'nice' people having a convo with TLA were the ones who picked up on the 'free speech' remark and fed that info back into the group. None of the conversations with any of the people involved in the protest were innocent or general polite conversation. They were all based on suspicion and disguised hostility.

You should bear in mind that the likes of Toby Young are more likely to be supportive of the rights of the people in the building to carry on their business than of the trans protesters who wish to erase all opposition from 'TERFS' by more or less any means. including violence. So the 'free speech' comment put TLA in the bracket of 'potential spy' or the like for the trans lot.

Sorry that's a wall of text but I hope it helps make sense of what the people involved were thinking since they didn't spell any of it out for you.

The camera man is getting shit for deleting comments but he is clearly stating it’s not him doing the deleting.

Those of us who have been terfing it up on YouTube for years are very familiar with the phenomenon of magical disappearing comments. I guess the non terves haven’t witnessed it before?

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 26/03/2023 22:53

I agree Tea - bit weird that a public protest doesn’t want to be filmed by a man with a YouTube channel - it’s not as if he’s making money off their images (well, maybe a little bit) or stealing their intellectual property.

I suppose the easiest conclusion is that they don’t want any narrative but their own to be shown? That they instinctively feel the need to control the way they are portrayed online (despite seemingly being happy to make dicks of themselves in public)?

I’m not all the way through it yet - the comments section is fascinating though. I’d not heard of ‘Auditors’ before, but here we are, in an unexpected Terf/Auditor crossover episode.

Perhaps we might get an influx of people volunteering to film the police at womens events? Much more interesting than a standard street encounter with a UK police officer…

When the camera chap first talks to the police the police describe the trans activists as ‘counter protesters’. How can that be true when there is no protest to counter protest? The Lesbian Project were having a meeting, indoors, invite only. They weren’t holding a protest.

I think the police just make shit up as they go along.

EndlessTea · 26/03/2023 22:43

I have watched that video and I am needing to process it a bit.

There’s something really odd about the way that the protesters did not want to be filmed and created a protective barrier, so no footage could be taken.

I thought the whole point of a protest is to be seen and heard, to draw attention towards your cause.

Next thing. The guy filming thought it was an impromptu street party or a rave. They had some sort of sound system and seemed to be just hanging out smoking weed. It didn’t come across like a proper protest.

They also seemed extremely ill-informed. How the hell would they have even heard about The Lesbian Project, known about what was intended or decided it needed to be protested against? They seemed so clueless.

Many many many moons ago, I went to some protests that were more like an excuse for a rave, but they tended to be around environmental issues, citizenship, the right of assembly. I can’t understand how these same kinds of people now protest lesbians meeting. It’s baffling. They come across as brainwashed.

It was a fascinating video of idiots at work.

The police for being incapable of policing

and

the protesters for being incapable of understanding that they were the ones acting like fascists! I'm not sure if the lad didn't understand just the word fascist or if he didn't know what hypocrisy meant as well.

This is fascinating. Not watched it all yet (just scrubbed through) but is this a fair summary of events?

Bloke who knows pretty much nothing about the Transgender encroachment on women’s sex based rights stumbles across the trans protest happening outside The Lesbian Project meeting.

Bloke has a small YouTube channel that focuses on documenting British Police at work and challenging their professional transgressions.

Bloke obviously takes an interest in the police who are there to supervise the protest and starts filming, the intended subjects of his footage are the police, but the TRAs don’t know this and decide Bloke must be some sort of enemy force to trans rights.

Chaos ensues. All on camera.

Trans activists do normal transactivist type things.
Police do not behave well.

Bloke is surprised, but not in a good way.

Bloke challenged police using his specialist police-watching knowledge.

Bloke uploads footage to aforementioned small YouTube channel, where his dedicated police-watching audience are similarly surprised-in-not-good-way.

Video gets shared around a bit. New comments are made sharing the back story.

Bloke reaches the tipping top of trans mountain in a single day, perhaps the fastest ever assent from neutral base camp to the absolute ‘these people are scary’ summit. Takes his entire YouTube audience up with him.

Seem about right?

Yep.

Awesome women exit building at the end and offer viewers a very stark comparison to the protestors. The women are wonderfully supportive, calm and cheerful.

Dropchain · 26/03/2023 21:05

Wow. I've just spent an hour watching that YouTube recording. The contrast between the batshit protest (complete self sabotage) and the last 2 mins of the women leaving the meeting.

I noticed that. The women came out wonderfully supportive of each other and in good cheer. Some thanked the police.

The contrast is stark.

Interesting to see this passerby record the protest, and how it unfolds.

What saddens me is how many young women were there protesting against the rights of lesbians to meet without men's permission. They really don't have a clue about free speech or freedom of association.
I believe that the individual with the megaphone abusing the filmer was this person sentenced to 30 years in prison for murder:
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11655647/Labour-MPs-attend-protest-trans-activist-jailed-murder-bid.html

The YouTuber seems to have misgendered this murderer/ potential electoral candidate. I suspect issues ahead for him.

cheshirecatssmile · 26/03/2023 19:22

@Helleofabore
We actually had no problems last night at the screening. For some reason the tra went to another area to protest , look at tik tok.

Hope women are safe as this is seriously getting out of hand

Yes. I realise my mistake. I apologise. I believe I meant the WPUK meeting the night before.

I am very glad the screening went without incident. That is great news and must be a relief.

CryptoFascistMadameCholet · 26/03/2023 19:32

I’d imagine there have been rather a lot of closeted cross dressing heterosexual men sat on the benches of both Parliamentary Houses over the last hundred years or so.

My father used to say this back in the seventies, people thought he was nuts.

Dropchain · 26/03/2023 21:05

TangledUpinBlu · 26/03/2023 21:03

How come these people don't feel anyway about standing next to and protesting with a convicted murder kidnapper (if it is sjb) but women can't stand next to anyone who might have looked at someone who might be right wing?

Not that there is anything wrong or dehumanising about being right wing.
Right wing women are women.
The double standards are rather revealing.

EdithStourton · 26/03/2023 20:55

All I can say is, I am so grateful for women like Julie Bindel and Kathleen Stock. And just lost for words for the appalling behaviour of the TRAs over the past couple of days. Just despicable behaviour.

nilsmousehammer · 26/03/2023 20:44

Boiledbeetle · 25/03/2023 23:30

I know it's horrifying. I'm so disgusted that in the 21st century we are back to lesbians who are SAME SEX attracted being treated like this it's just so Fucking cruel.

I'm annoyed at how women in general are being treated, but what is happening to lesbians I don't even have the words to describe how it makes me feel and that's looking in on it. To actually be a lesbian in these times must be Urghhhhhh Seriously I can't formulate my anger into coherent thought!

Yup. Me too.

My response I think currently to someone harassing me about who gets to use my body and that I have some kind of social duty to be an unpaid sex worker, is that I identify as a straight man.

Which is fluid. Depending on what bore I need to get out of my face in the moment.

But at the point we start to organise actively to have a movement of homosexuals standing up to this homophobia I will continue to call myself a homosexual female. To avoid any confusion. In all seriousness, it's been interesting and a bit chilling to see two separate broadcasts today from gay men who are livid and wanting to start organising. They don't care that much about women's rights, but they are realising that homosexuals are going to be treated by the mob in the same way women are being treated now.

Crouton19 · 26/03/2023 20:43

@ArabellaScott I saw that video earlier, and was taken aback by (a) how clueless the people he spoke to seemed to be (eg calling him a fascist while unable to define ‘fascist’) and (b) the police were awful! Accusing him of antagonising while idiots with signs blocked HIM in and pushed him.

Ketzele · 26/03/2023 20:30

We are just not allowed anything for ourselves.

JacquelinePot · 26/03/2023 20:21

I don't know why or how I've still got the capacity to be surprised

StephanieSuperpowers · 26/03/2023 19:58

I was young in the 90s. These young women may imagine they invented dick pandering as political activism, but it was old news even when I was young. I mean, obviously not the really cool way we did it where we totally weren't getting chumped like our mums did...

Oh.

TangledUpinBlu · 26/03/2023 19:57

The guy with the megaphone and red beret looks a lot like Sarah Jane Barker.
Police were speechless, gutless wankers.

ArabellaScott · 26/03/2023 19:56

Yep. Sarah Jane Barker was the one with the loud hailer verbally abusing the man filming.

I actually felt sorry for the police, who appeared to have been told to under no circumstances do anything to upset the protestors.

We can see very clearly that this group of people are afforded more rights and privileges than other people.

They are permitted to intimidate, abuse, harass and threaten people without ever having the slightest censure from the police, who instead turned on the man filming and tried to say he was 'provoking' their behaviour.

The police actually collude in it.

Marginalised my arse.
