In today's paper. Ends with calls for her to resign from WRN:

digitaleditions.telegraph.co.uk/data/1288/reader/reader.html?social#!preferred/0/package/1288/pub/1288/page/16/article/NaN

"Nancy Kelley, the chief executive of the charity, lashed out at “anti-gender” and “trans-hostile” groups after the African nation passed a law making it illegal to identify as LGBT. In a tweet yesterday, Ms Kelley shared a video of the Ugandan parliament applauding the move, writing: “The anti-gender movement has been funnelling cash and strategy into countries around the world for decades. This is ‘winning’ for them. This is the world we enable with our complacency. Solidarity to our LGBTQ family in Uganda.”

She added: “Many trans-hostile individuals and actors like to pretend the UK anti-trans moral panic is a distinct phenomenon. It isn’t.”"

Part of the response to these comments:

"Bev Jackson, the co-founder of the charity LGB Alliance which formed in opposition to Stonewall’s gender identity stance, said Ms Kelley’s tweet was “utterly disgusting”. “Trying to equate LGB activists with fanatical and well-funded evangelical homophobes is really the lowest of the low,” she said.

LGB Alliance sponsored Uganda Pride last year and also invited Isaac Mugisha, the chair of the Ugandan Pride movement and the leading opponent of hostile laws in the country, to its London conference. It organised a meeting between him and an LGBT group of Parliamentarians."

The same people that want to ban trans want to ban being gay. From a religious and right wing perspective, there’s no difference. It’s not difficult to understand that this is how they think, and I have no idea why people on this board don’t get it.

I don't think you've put much thought into your statment.

Some women want sex based spaces free from males. Other women are fine with mixed sex spaces.
Some women want sex based spportfree from males. Other women are fine with mixed sex sport.
For each individual person who believes they are trans the best outcome for that individual person should be decided on a case by case basis. Outcomes for all individuals should be recorded to assess which treatments are best in which cases.

There's very few religious or right wing people on mumsnet. It tends towards left leaning women and religion gets mentioned less than say spirituality.

I think your "not difficult to understand" refers to your own experience of finding it easier to understand if you believe that mumsnetters are religious right wing people, rather than putting the effort into thinking about why non religious left leaning people might be gender critical. In your case believing something that isn't true just makes it easier for you in not having to think too hard about it. You could of course choose to read what the mumsnetters are saying and thinking about what they say. It will take more effort but you will understand a lot better.

Wow the numbers around the comparative reach of the stonewall vs LGBA tweet are very interesting and not necessarily what I would have expected

Yes, I was surprised, too.

The latest numbers:

Stonewall: 4,884 Views; 7 Retweets; 0 Quotes; 50 Likes; 1 Bookmark

LGB Alliance: 56.8K Views; 261 Retweets; 13 Quotes; 907 Likes; 11 Bookmarks

Go and look up Iran and then try and develop a more nuanced, accurate understanding of what is meant by ‘religious’ and ‘right wing’.
Then maybe when you know some basics you can contribute to this discussion.

LBGA write to UK government, specifically to "Minister of State for Development and Africa to express horror at Uganda's crackdown on homosexuality.
Guided by activists on the ground, we call on the UK to review investment in Uganda, impose sanctions on those responsible, and fast track LGB&T refugees."

On the same day, Stonewall retweet their Scottish branch, to champion the alleged "protecting and progressing LGBTQ+ equality", which recent history demonstrates will likely mean the destruction of safeguarding, and transing gay children:

"Congratulations to @HumzaYousaf on your election as First Minister of Scotland. As the first person from an ethnic minority to become First Minister, this is a proud moment for our country. We look forward to working with you on protecting and progressing LGBTQ+ equality."

Replies off.

Was 2014 the last year when Stonewall used the term "same-sex"?

ResisterRex told us this morning that LGBA sponsored last year's Pride event in Uganda and invited the chair of Ugandan Pride over to speak at their conference.

Do we know if Stonewall have done anything similar? 🤔

Not since 2014, I don't think: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/nov/07/stonewall-hero-year-gay-rights-onziema

Stonewall’s hero of the year award goes to Pepe Julian Onziema

Ugandan gay rights activist still receives regular death threats over his work campaigning against anti-homosexuality laws

*10:57Incredible how there's no tragedy too great - from the holocaust to what's happening to gay people in Uganda - that the trans lobby won't appropriate it for their own demands.
Every. single. time.

This! They really are a repugnant organisation.

JellySaurus · 25/03/2023 18:11

Is she really that ethnocentric, self-important and imperious?

Yes.

Because that's not the case, and either you're in denial about the reality or you know it and are identifying as truth being otherwise.

The TQ+ lobby are currently the loudest and most aggressive and open force for suppressing homosexuality.

bellinisurge · 25/03/2023 16:41

Such a tedious pile of shit. The whole "you're all right wing" crap doesn't work anymore.

The Uganda situation is dreadful. We need to give asylum to any lesbian or gay man in Uganda who asks for it.

EndlessTea · 25/03/2023 16:29

If you look at this map (it hasn’t been updated with the latest from Uganda yet), you can see that Africa, as a continent, isn’t the most tolerant of homosexuality:

class="underline">filtersubmitted=&typefilter%5B%5D=crimlgbt www.humandignitytrust.org./lgbt-the-law/map-of-criminalisation/?type<span class="underline">filtersubmitted=&typefilter%5B%5D=crimlgbt

It is absurd for NK to imagine we have an influence on what is going on. Is she really that ethnocentric, self-important and imperious? They have the death penalty in Somalia too.

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 11:09

Newsflash: Homosexual women say no to being unpaid sex workers to straight men. Stonewall, accuse them of selfishly prioritising their own orgasms and wanting equality of acceptance, when they have a sex based social duty to provide sex to male people whether or not they would want to or enjoy it. And also says sex doesn't exist. (But this sex based duty does.)

World: What the actual fuck are you smoking?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 25/03/2023 10:57

Nancy 'sexual racism' Kelley?

nilsmousehammer · 25/03/2023 10:52

We just seem to be surrounded by the end game point of the TQ+ political lobby leaders going completely barmy. Publicly.

JellySaurus · 25/03/2023 10:49

Good typo!

ReunitedThorns · 25/03/2023 10:46

Essentially Stonewall are arguing that "there is no LGB with the T", accusing people who fight against any so-called "pro-trans" legislation as helping anti-gay legislation abroad.

Another way of putting it is "the UK should allow male rapists to identify as women to gain access to women's prisons as that will help gay men in Uganda".

I think it's difficult to understand what on earth you're on about.

JellySaurus · 25/03/2023 10:25

Stonewall, the campaigning charity set up to support the human rights of same-sex attracted people, responds to a country outlawing and severally penalising same-sex attraction by ignoring it? By coming out with a load of waffle about something else entirely?

What is it that Stonewall like to say? That when someone tells you what they are, believe them?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/03/2023 10:15

FrostyFifi · 25/03/2023 10:05

The same people that want to ban trans want to ban being gay.

Could you please provide evidence of that assertion?

There may well be some right wing fundamentalist types who'd want to ban both.

But not U.K. feminists, and not the LGB alliance, obviously.
