I find it astounding that Veradker said he'd never heard of Kardashian until the weekend. Is he usually so ill-informed?

nilsmousehammer · 22/03/2023 07:01

Odd isnt it? It's like they never sat through all the debates, had all the letters from women and women's groups, no one ever told them it was a rotten idea!

Poor little sausages.

Whilst she was driving !

Is that separate to the time when he ripped a womans eye lids off, or is that the same crime?

EpicChaos · 21/03/2023 22:58

Why has he only been given 5.5 years? He should never be allowed to see daylight again.
With the best will in the world, you can't fix or rehabilitate that and it's not the job of ordinary people in the street to be left to try to do so.

Looks like no one in the Irish government knew what has been happening in Irish prisons 🙈.

To change the Irish constitution there must be a referendum. There is an old fashioned clause in the constitution that refers to women.

“The state recognises that by her life within the home, woman gives to the state a support without which the common good cannot be achieved,” the state will “endeavour to ensure that mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their duties in the home”.

The referendum is to get rid of that clause. Rightly so. And for UK readers that clause never meant anything in reality but it's time to get rid of it.

BUT now we recently heard in the news they want to use this referendum to introduce another topic. Gender. This is an underhanded means to bring in a new constitutional law. On Gender Equality. We already had the sneaky self id law that none of us had one clue about. This time it is even worse.

Any Irish woman on here knows that the Constitution is one seriously difficult document to change. That is why we women hated the 8th (the clause that banned abortion) and had to have a referendum to put it in there, and several decades and referendums it took to get it out. It's not like a normal law that can be overturned by government. This time women are more aware and when they fully get wind of what is going on, more specifically when Leo is asked about toilets in schools, about Barbie in Limerick's women's prison and asked about whether he believes a man is really a woman if the man says he is, including male rapists then there will be war. But people so far have no clue about much of this. What happened in Scotland has greatly helped though. And the Tavistock.

IMO the clause should be changed to . . .that by their lives within the home, carers give to the state a support without which . . .

and funding should follow that. (I think that idea got raised at the Citizen's assembly to the massive alarm of the pols and the civil servants).

But I am alarmed at the way it seems to be going to be about gender rather than sex or support for home life.

What was the justification for the reporting injunction?

TUSLA is a very powerful Irish state body. Responsible for child protection that kind of thing. If they say to the Irish media not to publish something than the media, in general will not.

In addition Irish media tend to be afraid of going to court to defend themselves due to the legal costs. So they will not run with stories you would see in the Daily Mail or the red tops.

Gript went against the grain with the Barbie story. Probably because they are small and if sued they'd just go bust. Also probably TUSLA decided it was not worth pursing a case against them as it would have the opposite effect they intended. Because than all media would be reporting the state going after Gript and saying over what.

Slightly off topic but I don't understand why the GRA, that changed the status of both women and men, didn't need a referendum, given that women are mentioned in the Constitution. Ditto why the upcoming referendum which is about the equality of the sexes is being billed as being about gender.

Nearly every link I clicked on the page had been deleted, page not found, 404, whoops nothing here. So someone has been busy given the links have only been posted over the last couple of days. I'm in the UK not Ireland.

I did read the Irish Times article linked to, and another from the site which went into more detail on what had been said about Barbie's future, post incarceration.

It was interesting to me that although the Irish Times referred to Barbie as "she" throughout, the direct quotes from the judge use "they" and "their" and even Barbie's own Barrister uses a lot of "this young person" phrases.

@Abhannmor
The Greens are going to be destroyed at the next election. Which is a pity because climate change is real and very important. But they are simply too irresponsible to be allowed in government.

I have a theory about this... the battle for the climate is lost, and no amount of recycling and banning plastic and giving up cars will save us. The Greens need another raison d'etre. (Though it beats me why they've picked a batshit one.)

Oh, Jesus.

I hope that's not true. The Greens may just have abandoned the fight because ... Well, maybe there are reasons.

His ongoing case about attacking his social worker?

I did a Google search on media coverage. Early reports in the Law Society Gazette. They quote a legal expert saying Irelands GRA has left courts in ' an impossible situation '.

Then the Limerick Leader published a story and were soon denounced on Twitter as transphobic. They deleted a tweet linking to the story.

A quite detailed account on a website called Men's Voices Ireland - who I've never heard of before. When it's left to MRAs to defend women you know things are bad.

@Cailin66 Are schools really going to teach the Teni version of sex / gender? I mean has guidance been issued to teachers. I have left wing feminists telling me it's all a moral panic and the Church still has an iron grip on Irish schools.

Yes. HSE has changed document called:

  • Busy bodies
  • parents have no idea about what is about to be taught, it’s all airy fairy loveliness
I’m not going to say more on here. Ask, in writing, ie email, to school, sight of sex ed material and see how you get on.

work from there. Act as innocent parent, don’t mention gender, toilets, etc.

Even if her statement is true, why is the proportion of sex offenders amongst the imprisoned transwoman population much higher than for non-trans men? Are those prisoners just “at it”? All of them?

If you could get one of these cheerleaders to answer that question I would give you £50 and a Wispa.

PaterPower · 17/03/2023 18:49

“Trans women are far more likely to be the victims of violent crime than the perpetrators.”

Similar with this statement. Is this true? How would you know, if the data isn’t collected consistently?

SomeHorribleMamsnetter · 17/03/2023 16:36

though often there is no formal data collection on the matter so actual figures could be much higher.

I love this earnest faith in figures that have been admittedly pulled right out of someone's arse.

nilsmousehammer · 17/03/2023 15:35

“Trans women are not the enemy. Trans women are women, and face many of the same discriminations that cis-women face with the added discrimination that comes with being trans in a society that thrives on inequality.

If there's an insistence on finding an 'enemy' it's the sexism that believes the indulgence of a man's self image should be valued and nurtured while ignoring and belittling women and telling them the bullshit that their wish for privacy, dignity, safety and equality of consideration is naughty and wrong and their concerns aren't real and don't matter.

TW are male. It's the necessary characteristic: they are not women. They are male and identify as trans. They wish to have privileges not extended to any other males.

They do not face the same issues that women as adult human females do - I don't know about 'cis women', that's a political group of those who self identify with that label, and I assume from speakers like Willoughby they can be of either sex. They are not the sex class female. Male people are not female people and have no idea what the issues and needs of female people are - and do not care either, they are loud and clear on that. Particularly needs and issues that are inconvenient to male freedoms and not titillating.

The needs of TQ+ identified males are no less than an other groups, and nor are they the same. It is not necessary to meet TQ+ male needs by stomping on, ignoring and erasing female needs and realities. TQ+ male needs can be met without ever interfering with female people's rights, needs and spaces.

Which proves that all of this endless waffle is merely about trying to force male people's access to non consenting female people's bodies (no other part of the female is of any interest) and making it sound.... somehow.... ok instead of abhorrent.
